Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: Showdown on the Dam

"Where the hell did that damned bastard run off to?"

Consumed by anger and humiliation, Alex unleashed his full speed, disregarding the drain on his elven energy. His sole focus was to find the saber-toothed tiger who had wounded his "fragile" pride.

Boom!

After combing the base multiple times with no trace of the saber-toothed tiger, Alex vented his frustration by slicing a military jeep clean in half with his sword. "Don't let me catch you! If I do, I swear I'll cut you into ribbons!"

Clang! Clang! Clang!

Still fuming and grinding his teeth over what he'd do to the saber-toothed tiger, Alex suddenly caught faint metallic clashing sounds from above. He looked up and saw, at the edge of the towering dam, a ferocious battle taking place between Wolverine and Weapon XI.

The two mutants, each equipped with incredible regenerative abilities, were locked in a brutal fight. Blades slashed into flesh without spilling a drop of blood, as the wounds healed instantly upon impact. Their unrelenting combat devolved into an absurd game of tit-for-tat—one slash for one claw swipe.

But overall, Wolverine was at a disadvantage.

Weapon XI not only possessed regenerative capabilities but could also teleport and fire laser beams. Wolverine was forced to contend with the opponent's unpredictable teleportation attacks and deadly laser beams from his eyes. This relentless assault pushed Wolverine to the brink, leaving him struggling to maintain his footing on the dam's dizzying heights. Alex, watching from below, couldn't help but feel anxious for him.

"Well, if I can't find the saber-toothed tiger, venting my anger on this guy will do."

Alex gave a bloody grin as he turned his gaze upward, focusing on the relentless Weapon XI cornering Wolverine. Without hesitation, Alex sprinted toward the base of the dam.

Meanwhile, the saber-toothed tiger had already fled to a boat he'd stashed near the shore for emergencies—a precaution that now proved invaluable.

"Logan, and that kid I don't even know—next time we meet, I'll kill you both myself!"

Though Victor Creed, the saber-toothed tiger, had only exchanged a few blows with Alex in the base, he had narrowly escaped death multiple times. A seasoned warrior with hundreds of battles under his belt, he was utterly terrified by Alex's devastating swordsmanship. Despite his bold proclamation, deep down, Victor hoped to never cross paths with either of them again.

Sitting in the boat, Victor cast one final glance at the island before speeding toward the mainland coast, his face set in bitter frustration.

At the peak of the towering dam, the island's highest point, one could see every corner of the island. The fierce winds howled relentlessly. For those with weak nerves, standing there was unthinkable.

Clang! Clang!

Claws clashed against claws. Adamantium blades struck adamantium claws, unleashing dazzling sparks in the air.

Shhhk!

Amidst the escalating fight, Wolverine landed a swift strike, tearing a deep, bone-revealing gash into Weapon XI's shoulder. "Next time, it'll be your head!"

Buoyed by his small victory, Wolverine quickened his attacks, relentlessly aiming for Weapon XI's throat. While regenerative powers could heal severe injuries, losing one's head was a different matter entirely—it meant certain death.

However, Weapon XI remained unfazed by Wolverine's aggression. Activating his teleportation ability, he vanished in an instant and reappeared behind Wolverine. Twisting mid-air in a gymnastic feat that would humble even seasoned athletes, Weapon XI used the momentum to deliver a crushing kick, sending Wolverine sprawling.

"Damn it—"

Before Wolverine could get back on his feet, Weapon XI leapt onto his back, pinning him down with both knees and immobilizing him completely.

Shhhk! Shhhk!

"Aaaaargh!"

Two razor-sharp blades stabbed mercilessly through Wolverine's back. Though he wouldn't die thanks to his regenerative powers, the agony was inescapable.

"Aaaaaaaah!"

Wolverine's screams echoed louder as Weapon XI twisted the blades before slowly withdrawing them, deliberately maximizing the torment. Once the blades were fully withdrawn, Weapon XI crossed them into an "X" shape and prepared to plunge them into Wolverine's head.

As mentioned earlier, even with regenerative abilities, a severed head meant the end.

"Damn it…"

Despite his extensive combat experience and expertise, Wolverine could only struggle helplessly under Weapon XI's merciless assault. He watched in despair as the crossed blades descended toward his neck.

But just as Weapon XI prepared to deliver the killing blow, a distinct whooshing sound broke through the air—a sword aura cutting through space, aimed directly at Weapon XI's head.

Sensing the imminent danger, Weapon XI abandoned his attack and teleported to the side, narrowly avoiding the lethal strike. He turned his attention toward the source of the attack and saw a figure standing nearby—Alex.

"Ha… ha… finally… I made it!" Alex panted, striding toward Wolverine while keeping a wary eye on Weapon XI's every move.

After witnessing the dire situation from below, Alex had scaled the dam through a passage at its base. With the elevator out of service, he had been forced to climb flight after flight of stairs. Were it not for his superhuman physique, he might have collapsed from sheer exhaustion.

"Hey, old man, still alive?"

"What do you think?!" Wolverine snapped, clambering to his feet. "But if you had a shred of politeness, I might feel a bit more appreciative!"

Despite enduring Weapon XI's brutal assault, Wolverine's body had already healed to peak condition, with no visible injuries or even a drop of blood staining his clothes. Truly, his regenerative powers were outrageously effective.

Alex ignored Wolverine's grumbling. "If you've got the energy to complain, you're clearly doing fine."

"Heh."

Wolverine chuckled, letting the matter drop. "If you're here, that means the kids have been rescued, right?"

"Probably." Alex shrugged. "I sent your wo—cough, your girlfriend to escort them. Given the current state of security, there's no one left to stop them. They're probably heading toward the coast by now."

"Good." Wolverine sighed in relief before turning his attention back to Weapon XI. "Now all that's left is to deal with this guy."

"Deal with? My goal is to kill him," Alex thought coldly but kept his expression neutral.

Throughout their conversation, Weapon XI stood motionless. But as soon as Wolverine and Alex adopted fighting stances, Weapon XI raised his blades. His eyes burned with a battle intent so intense it seemed tangible.

It was clear: not only did Wolverine and Alex want to eliminate Weapon XI, but Weapon XI was equally determined to take them down.

Whether this was the pride of a master swordsman or pure confidence in his abilities, Alex didn't know. All he knew was that this time, he had to kill his opponent.

"Let's go!" Wolverine roared, charging headfirst toward Weapon XI.

"Old man, you're way too fired up!" Alex muttered, smirking as he followed closely behind with his blade drawn.

The final battle on the dam was about to begin!
