Prologue III: Infiltration

Agent Eleven pushed the plate up and over after it's been separated. He climbed out of the hole he made.

The agent looks around the current room and grabs a nearby mop and bucket, "(I don't typically use the same disguise twice, but when they make it so easy…)"

The agent puts a bucket of water in the slop sink and begins filling it with water.

The agent puts on a pair of spectacles that projects a lifelike, holographic mask over his own face. He chooses a setting on his watch and touches it to his suit. It slowly rearranges itself and recolors itself into a brown custodian's uniform. The agent then puts on a pair of gloves that begin to glow from fingertip to wrist.

The agent then pulls out a clear plastic card and holds it in front of his holographic face. The card becomes opaque, colors itself white, and puts the false face into a section of the card.

The agent taps a blank section of the card and a keyboard appears within his spectacle's Heads Up Display. He begins forging an alias and job title.

"(I'll make the logo the background and reserve a space for it here… and then link it to the suit for consistency…)"

A white circle appears behind the details of the fake ID card and a blank circle appears over the agent's chest.

From his backpocket, the agent retrieves a lanyard and connects the fake ID to his disguise.

He grabs a nearby mop and puts it into the bucket and turns off the water right at the fill line.

"(Perfect. Time to get to work.)"

The custodian pushes open the door and begins pushing his bucket down the hallway.

On the way to his objectives, a glint of light from outside catches his eye. He turns his head to see an owl perched on a tree watching him intently.

"(Hmm… the animals here are creepy. Need a team to research the wildlife here…)" The custodian thought to himself. As he walked, he noticed the bird was scanning his every move. "(Definitely weird…)"

The custodian continued down the hallway with his bucket and mop until he encountered a couple of soldiers turning the corner. "Halt!" The soldiers yell in a different language.

The custodian puts his mop and bucket against a wall and waves his hands casually.

"Identify yourself. I haven't seen you here before."

"Of course!" Replies the custodian. He pulls his ID card and lanyard and brings them close to the first guard's face. Agent Eleven uses this moment to quickly look around the hallway, "No cameras. I'll make this quick."

With his eyes still locked in the first guard, he steps toward the second guard and punches him in the throat. "(Shattered.)"

The second guard turns his head and with a flick of his wrist, Agent Eleven uses his ID card to deeply slit the guard's throat. In his confusion, the guard lost his ability to scream as he choked on his own blood. "(Vocals severed.)"

He wipes his ID card with the first guard's uniform before he falls as he notices blood is beginning to pour full stream.

The agent quickly pulls a card from a guard and enters a nearby room with their corpses. He looks back into the hallway, "(Good. Not too much blood.)"

He grabs his mop bucket and cleans up the evidence meticulously.

He brings the bucket into the room with the guards and begins the second phase of his work.

He taps the side of his spectacles and his face changes to the second guard's face. He taps the glasses again and they become invisible.

Agent Eleven points his watch at the second guard and a dim light sweeps across the corpse in a brief moment. He touches his watch to his custodian disguise and it morphs into a pristine guard's uniform.

Agent Eleven pulls his ID card once more to recapture his new face. He dives into the corpse's pockets to find an ID to replicate and complete his new identity. "(They make it too easy.)"

Agent Eleven types in the man's information and replicates the backdrop style of the man's ID. "(Perfect.)"

Agent Eleven pulls a small disc from his pocket and he faces it toward the first guard. It shines a light that sweeps across the corpse and the agent re-enters the hallway.

Agent Eleven holds two buttons at the same time and the disc flies out of his hand and creates a hologram of the first guard, shocked face and all.

The agent looks at the hologram startled for a moment and goes to his watch. He readjusts many of the settings and an unsullied version of the uniform is generated, along with a different facial expression. "(Stay within… one meter should be good. Walking preset one. Alright. Should be set and ready to go.)"

The agent walks while watching his holographic companion from the corner of his eye. The hologram stays on course and walks naturally, as intended. "(Perfect… Now it's time to head to R&D. I need to go down that corridor to the elevator.)"

The deceitful guard now makes his way toward his objective and continues unhindered to his surprise. The few guards he passed were completely fooled. "(Security seems lax. That can be a good thing… or a terrible thing.)"

The guard with ulterior motives arrived at the elevator with his holographic companion to see a pair of guards on duty.

"Halt. No one should be entering the elevator from the floor. Only exiting."

"The captain ordered a fresh security detail to the roof and we won the lottery."

The second guard snicker at his perceived comrade's misfortune.

The first guard looks at the hologram, "Are you alright?"

"(Damn… He looked at it too long.)" The agent craftily plots a misdirection as he punches a nearby wall in feigned frustration.

The two guards are startled by the sudden outburst and look at him.

"It's gonna be so fucking boring up there! Why are we even going up there anyways?! Neither one of us are marksmen!"

At that moment, a sound of static comes from near the unfortunate guard's waist accompanied by a voice, "Where are you guys? The captain is waiting on our relief!"

The elevator guards have a look of sudden clarity as they realize there is a more important matter, "Sorry guys, let us get out of your way."

One guard nods to the other. They take a few steps forward to give their comrades space to wait on the elevator and continued looking down the corridor ahead of them, idling chattering.

The agent takes this small reprieve to look down at his watch and he sees a smiling simulated face. He gives a subtle nod, and eagerly anticipated the next phase of the mission.

Fortunately, the elevator came faster than expected. The impostors boarded it quickly and hit one of the basement buttons.

Agent Eleven scanned the elevator quickly and nothing stood out… Except one thing. A cockroach sat in the back corner of the elevator on the floor. Unnaturally stationary.

The agent slides his foot toward the creature in an attempt to startle it and it remained unshaken. The agent began to observe it more intently from the corner of his eye, "(three, four, five, six…)"

"(The antennae of that roach are feeling around in the same exact pattern on repeat… IS THAT A -)"

The elevator chimes and opens.

The two guards manning the area turn toward their perceived allies, "No one is supposed to be coming down here for another 2 hours. It's not time for a shift change."

The out of place guard pulls his fake ID card and replies, "The captain ordered an extra security detail down here. I think someone needs relief."

"This floor is supposed to be on lockdown right now. There's no way they sent someone down here and I have no way to authorize them!"

The familiar static noise and voice interrupt the discussion, "Where the hell are you guys?!"

The disguised guard now pleads with his comrades, "Come on guys! You hear them! I'm not trying to get reprimanded - we were supposed to be down here thirty minutes ago!"

The first guard looks aggravated but concedes to the begging guard's pleas, "Alright, alright! But if I get reprimanded for letting you through, I'll find you and kick your ass myself!"

The grateful guard furiously thanks the first guard, gritting his teeth, trying hard to hold his smile.

The disguised duo begin walking away as they are suddenly called to a few steps away, "Hey! Why do you have a briefcase on your back?!"

The agent freezes in place and looks over his shoulder refusing to believe his blunder.

Agent Eleven says scrolling through settings on his watch, "Oh that? I can explain that." he clicks a button that starts a subtle vibration on his wrist.

He turns around and says, "Well, that's because I'm a secret agent."

The guards look confused not knowing if this is a joke of some sort.

"Look, I can prove it."

Agent Eleven pulls two pistols from his belt and shoots both guards in their heads as they look to their own guns. He shoots them both twice more in the head while they lay motionless in the ground.

"(Well that wasn't according to plan… and as for this thing…)" the agent reaches toward his back to press a button on his briefcase which renders it invisible.

He then pulls a small sphere from his pocket and and clicks a button. He stacks the two corpses and places the sphere on top of them.

Both of the corpses disappear leaving only a subtle, constant distortion at their position. "(I didn't want to have to use that so soon.)"

Agent Eleven looks at his watch, "(Electronic interference will be done soon. I should move.)"

The agent reaches inside of the hologram's head and retrieves the disc. He puts it in his back pocket and continues down the corridors finding nothing more than rooms with insignificant works in progress.

That is, until he turned a corner to see a room being guarded by four soldiers. He quickly took cover again to formulate his plan of attack.

The agent points his watch at the wall after adjusting some settings. "(There it is. Massive energy reading. It's either the disintegration ray or a nuclear reactor. Either way, it's a target worth taking down.)"

The agent pulls a small cylinder from a pouch on his belt and begins adjusting settings on his watch which turns on a red laser.

He turns the corner and points the laser at the area above the guards and presses a button.

He puts the cylinder on the wall and it sprouts mechanical legs. It climbs up the wall and across the ceiling to the point the agent designated.

After a brief delay, the cylinder releases a colorless mist that doesn't get the guards' attention right away.

One guard stops talking mid sentence to wipe the mist from his face and immediately falls unconscious. The other three look toward him startled, and fall unconscious before they can say "What happened?"

Agent Eleven comes around the corner with a pistol in hand.

He executes the sleeping guards and tries to open the door. He sees the card swiping mechanism next to the door and sighs.

Agent Eleven pulls his fake ID card and reactivates his gloves, ready to make edits once more.

The agent makes a pinching motion on the card and as he slides his fingers down the card, a strip appears. He closes his interface and tries to swipe the card.

The mechanism gives back a negatory buzz and a red light.

"(Okay… Again.)"

The mechanism seems to glitch as it flashes a green light a few times amongst the distorted rejection sound.

"(This should be the final time…)", agent thinks to himself as he swipes the card again.

This time, the mechanism gives a green light and the lock disengages on the door.
