Agent Eleven confusedly looked into the chest and pointed his watch at the strange object.
"(Why is this thing giving off so much energy? The radiation is safe, temperature is normal, but it still doesn't make sense… What's the connection to the beetle and whoever built this place?)"
The agent reaches for the object to examine it closer.
The item was about as long as the agent's finger. One end bore the top half of a skull, stopping at the nose. Then a slender shaft. On the other end, there was the top half of a jaw with pointed, jagged teeth.
"(Looks like some sort of key. Rather stylized, but seems to be fitting of the theme around here.)" Agent Eleven thinks as he looks to a nearby mound of corpses.
He stores the key in his tool belt and makes his way for the door. Seeing there was a lock on the door, he went for the key he just found.
Upon inserting the key, rays of light shoot out of the lock and toward the agent. Without twisting the key, he hears the lock disengaged and he is able to open the door.
"(That was a little dramatic.)" The agent thought as he stored the key and made his way back into the corridor.
The agent holstered his pistol and retrieves his briefcase, "(Gotta take this thing off…)"
The agent takes off his gas mask to reveal his sweaty face and stores it in his briefcase.
He resets the case and walks back down the trapped corridor he arrived from.
Agent Eleven eventually returned to the large room full of cells and looked to the top.
He adjusted settings in his watch, "(Redirecting power to legs. Tuning for power over twitch speed…)"
Agent Eleven slightly bent his knees and found himself over 20 feet in the air after what he thought was a small hop. He grabbed onto the railing of the third floor, two floors above, and pulled himself up.
"(A little more effective than I was anticipating. Good thing I didn't overdo it.)"
The agent with a better understanding of his suit's power, jumped straight to the fifth floor, ready to see what awaited him.
Agent Eleven prepared his watch for another sonic map and touched the floor. He got a layout of the top floor and was relieved, "(Rather straightforward compared to the bottom floor. That's reassuring.)"
He also noticed there were not nearly as many corpses on the top floor. But the few that were there, had their weapons in hand.
"(Swords? Shields? Why were these people here? And what's that?)"
The agent sees a clothed, skeletal corpse lying on top of what seems to be a staff adorned with decorative etchings mounted with a cracked glass orb.
The agent uses his foot to slide the staff from under the corpse.
He then hears a weak whisper in a foreign language.
The agent pulls his pistols and turns toward the source of the voice to see one of the skeletal corpses slowly dragging itself in his direction.
"(Now zombies are here?!)"
He feels something touch his foot.
He looks down to see the corpse with the staff laying its hand on him.
The agent reflexively kicks the skeleton against a wall where it shatters into pieces. A faint glow is seen leaving the corpse and the agent turns toward the other skeletal warriors who seem to have stopped advancing toward him.
The corpses all begin to whisper in their foreign dialect and they suddenly go limp. Their corpses become lifeless once again, and the agent sees the same faint glow leaving the others.
"(I'm not sure what's going on here… But when I report back to HQ, this place is getting wiped off the map and whatever country I'm in is getting sanctioned!)"
The agent advances toward the direction of the exit, seeing less and less skeletal corpses along the way.
The agent sees slender rays of light creeping through the decrepit walls ahead of him. He feels relief wash over his body as he presses a button to deactivate his night vision.
He turns a final corner to see a large, open door leading to nature and welcomes the sight of grass and trees.
The agent holsters his gun and picks up his pace, eager to leave.
Agent Eleven walks through the doors and turns around to look at the building he left.
"(Yeah… I'm going to tear this place down myself.)"
He looks down at his watch, "(I saw there was no signal before, but I assumed it was the building or a jammer. Why am I still not getting a satellite?)"
The agent begins adjusting settings on his watch and then presses a button.
He waits.
He sighs in disappointment as he comes to terms with being completely stranded and lost.
The agent turns toward the forest and sees a path going deeper, "(There's a path, so someone has to travel here. Must be a black site. I guess I'll follow the path and see if it brings me to civilization.)"
Agent Eleven sets his eyes forward and walks into the quiet forest.
He follows many bends in the path until he reaches an intersecting path, ("Now there's three ways to go… I'll keep going forward.)"
As he advanced, he heard the sound of water and perked up. He quickly went toward the water, eager to quench his thirst.
He saw the pristine, blue water and couldn't help but smile as he dropped down to his hands and knees to get a drink.
"A well deserved reward, Eleven." The man congratulated himself, refreshed.
He retrieved his briefcase and pulled out a small, clear plastic square with a cap in its center. He untwisted the cap and placed the plastic square into the small river, holding its plastic lips.
As water passed through the lips of the contraption, it expanded and the square began to unfold more until it became a small bag filled with the precious liquid.
"(This ought to keep me going for a while. Now I just need to find food.)
The agent pressed forward, and eventually, he reached an expansive field.
In this field, he saw countless flowers, trees bearing fruit, and even pollinating insects hard at work.
He went to one of the trees eager to replenish his energy reserves.
He split the skin of one of the familiar fruits only to stare confusedly.
"(Is this whole place a huge joke? What the hell is this thing? An orpple? An appange?)"
The agent hesitantly bites into the fruit and his eyes light up, "(It's more delicious than both!)"
The agent plucks a handful of the fruits from the tree and stores them in his briefcase.
The agent stood, eating a fruit and gazing upon his surroundings. It was surprising that such a serene area existed so closely to the abhorrent place he just left.
After the surprisingly filling fruit, Agent Eleven started to feel the effects of exhaustion set in as he was no longer under pressure or stressed from his surroundings.
The agent looked for a suitable tree in the shade and retrieved his briefcase once more. This time he pressed a button, and three metallic legs sprout from the case.
The agent sticks the legs into the ground and the case begins to stand on its own, "(Circuit established.)"
Agent Eleven flips a switch on the briefcase and then presses a button to render it invisible once more.
With his work finally coming to an end for now, he leaned against a tree and sat down. He began adjusting multiple settings in his watch and then relaxed all the tension in his body.
The metallic armor he was covered in reverted back into the black oily substance. The nanites gather to the middle of his chest into a round ball and drop into his hand.
The agent then pulls the nanites apart and they spread them as if he were pulling dough. He then waves the spread-out substance up and down and it begins to stretch.
He ended up with a thin sheet as wide as his arm span and longer than he was tall.
"(They even have functionalities like this with the new package. I'll definitely have to tell Eight that her recommendation came in handy.)"
The agent covered himself with the sheet of nanites and pressed another button on his watch.
The nanites and the covered parts of his body became invisible.
Agent Eleven gets more comfortable against the trunk of the tree and thinks to himself, "(Money well spent.)"
