Kira's POV
I couldn't believe my ears; I didn't even understand the whole keeper's things. It sounded like gibberish in my ears. How could I be the moon keeper, a lowly omega wolf who wasn't even worthy of being a maid to alpha Asha?
"I know it's hard to believe, but I am telling you the truth, my child. Besides, the symbol on your palm explains it all." The elder said
I looked at my palm once more. I tried to scratch off the symbol, but there was no sign. The symbol only kept on glowing. The more I touched it, the more it glowed.
"Why does it glow every time I touch it."
"That's because the symbol recognises the warmth of the keeper; that's the symbol's way of paying it homage and respect to the holder."
My head was pounding at this moment, 'How the hell did I get to this point'
"Elder, please, could you tell us more about her lineage?" Ryker pleaded
"Of course, I can, though most of what I know now are legends and tales told to me by my ancestors."
"It's fine, I want to hear it," I said
The elder began to tell us about my family's lineage. He told us how every generation of my bloodline had at least one keeper. He told us that there were a few times when two keepers arose at the same time in the same generation, but that was because of the weight and the responsibility.
The work of the keeper for that generation was a difficult one for one keeper to manage hence why the moon goddess had to create more than one keeper.
There was something else the elder said that got me thinking a lot. He said for several generations there had not been any Moon keeper until now.
"Why haven't there been any moon keepers for generations to come and why don't I have any information about my parents" I asked
"Well... it simple there was no need for moon keepers until now, as for your parents...." the elder paused
He stood up from the chair and paced up and down his small room
"About twenty-five years ago, we heard a rumour..."
"Rumour?"
"Yes, we heard a rumour; well, right now, I can see that it isn't a rumour; you are proof."
"What do you mean? I don't understand you, elder"
"Well, twenty-five years ago, my father came to us with stories about how a Keeper's generation was sighted in a faraway land, but a rogue werewolf pack led by an enchanted alpha attacked this family."
"And then what happened, this story still does not explain my connection to these people and why I am the only one left" I panicked
"My dear, that's all I know, I am sorry I couldn't be of much help to you, but one thing I am sure of is you are our saviour; you are the one who would determine if we all would go into extinction or we would continue to exist."
Immediately, I stood up and ran out of the room. My eyes were filled with tears. I wasn't sure why I was crying, but I felt heavy in my heart. This new revelation about my lineage and my possible family genocide.
I wasn't even sure if I believed what the elder said about my family; everything sounded like a made-up story in my head designed to deceive me, maybe make me bend to the will of the Mark on my end.
"Kira! Kira!!" Ryker came out of the elder's room
But I behaved like I didn't hear him call me I turned my face away from the direction his voice was coming from.
"Kira! I know everything seems to be a lot but I promise you we will get to the root of all this"
"Root of all this?" I scoffed. "I don't mean to be rude, but you expect me to believe all the nonsense that the elder had just spouted?."
"Come on, Kira, you don't have to sound so rude; that's the eldest werewolf in my pack. If there's anything I can vouch for, it is the fact that he never lies."
"I think I need to go home, Ryker; thank you for your time, I need to process all this."
I began to head back towards the direction we came. Ryker tried to stop me, but I insisted; he even offered to walk me home, but I insisted I was going to walk back home and that I needed the space to think and clear my head.
********
"Why are you so adamant?"
"Excuse me? Are you talking to me?"
"Oh yes I am talking to you, little keeper"
I looked around. It was just us two on the road; I wondered how she knew that I was a keeper; that wasn't the most surprising thing; the most surprising thing was the fact that I was calling myself the keeper already.
"Who are you?" I asked surprised that a strange woman in the middle of nowhere just called me the keeper.
I studied her closely to see if I could probably recognise them, but after a while, I stopped stressing my brain about it as I knew that there were only three people in the whole world who knew about this, and it was me, Ryker and the elder.
The only explanation for this strange woman would be that she's a witch or a powerful sorceress.
"I am whoever you wish I could be" She replied
I laughed at her reply, "What! So if I wish you to be a moving cart, you would suddenly turn into a moving cart?"
"If that's what your heart truly desires", she replied.
Her voice sounded more serious than the first time she replied to me. I knew better than to keep pushing.
"Please, mysterious lady, I need to head home and rest my head. I am tired, so many things are going through my head right now."
The enigmatic woman approached me, rested her hands on my brow, and instantly, I started to experience vivid memories; I was in disbelief.
The flashes began very quickly but gradually slowed down over time. I witnessed a baby girl weeping in her mother's embrace, then another memory emerged, revealing the same child, now slightly older, perhaps around five or six, dashing around a living room and having fun with her parents.
Then unexpectedly, the flashes turned dim, and I could only see the girl's mother putting two fingers on the back of the little girl's head. Soon after, the woman and her husband were assaulted, resulting in their deaths.
"What did I just witness?"
