Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: Eliminating Variables

Elias approached the Destroyer Class. Even he didn't understand why he was assigned to it when he was an Auxiliary. Still, he felt somewhat relieved.

He didn't know what each class was taught, but he was certain that the Auxiliary Classes could never help him learn what he truly wanted to know. He needed to learn the tricks of the Destroyer Class, especially since his purpose was similar.

He walked over to the right side of the hall and stood next to Rey Esterin and other descendants of the major families who were standing at the front of the group.

"All of you can follow the envoys. They will take you to the professor assigned to your class. That is it for the ceremony." The woman, who looked like Medusa, turned around after taking another subtle glance at Elias.

A portal opened in front of her, and she also left.

The Creator Class was the first to leave through another portal opened by the envoy standing before them.

Next was the Destroyer Class, as another large portal opened.

Rey Von Esterin stepped forward, but not before whispering in Elias's ear, "Welcome to the slaughterhouse, little lamb."

He stepped inside the portal. Even though Elias was in the Auxiliary Class, most people from the Destroyer Class looked somewhat scared of him. They didn't walk past Elias, as if waiting for him to enter first.

Elias also stepped inside the portal, and only then did the others follow.

.....

Elias had thought he would appear in a similarly grand hall, where the professor would be waiting for them. But the moment he stepped out of the portal, he started shivering as freezing winds brushed past his skin.

As far as his eyes could see, there was only snow. The sky itself was covered in clouds, with snow continuously falling.

"What is this place?" Not just him, but the others also looked just as surprised.

They didn't understand where they were, but looking at the sky, it seemed like an entirely different world. The sky here was different from what they had seen in the Dimensional Realm.

They couldn't even find the professor anywhere. Many of them turned to the envoy to ask him questions, but he had also gone missing. Only the youngsters of the Destroyer Class could be seen in the surroundings.

Rey was the first to react. He formed a protective layer of wind around him, to keep the cold winds away. The others also took action to protect themselves from the cold.

Even those who didn't have any artefacts to protect themselves from the cold, used extra layers of clothing.

Only Elias was left behind. The clothes that he wore initially, protected him from extreme cold or extreme heat. However, those clothes had long been destroyed.

He was wearing the clothes that were given to him by the Shadow Guard temporarily, and it had no protection.

Since he couldn't take any protective measures against the cold, he decided to embrace it. It wasn't as if the cold was going to kill him, even if it was uncomfortable.

Boom-

Suddenly, a loud explosion resounded. Elias walked toward the source of the explosion, but someone ran past him.

He rushed forward, without any caution. He was certain that if there was an explosion, there was life. It was probably the professor calling for them, or so he thought.

Elias followed him, and the others kept pace. However, unlike the first person, they didn't seem to be in a hurry.

He watched the young boy running with all his might, as if it were a race to see who could reach the professor first.

"Arghh!" A loud cry echoed as the person suddenly disappeared. The roar grew more distant with each passing second, making everyone more cautious.

They soon reached the place where the boy had vanished and only then realized what had happened. They were on a cliff covered in snow. The snowfall also lowered visibility.

The boy was in such a hurry that he didn't notice anything amiss and fell off the cliff. The first death had occurred in the Destroyer Class, and it happened before they could even see the professor.

Again, the explosion resounded. They saw a bright light in the distance, and the sounds of explosions only grew more frequent. It was less like a signal and more as if someone was fighting.

"D-did he die?" A girl asked, cautiously peeking off the cliff.

"He was a fool. It's better if fools like him die fast, or they will only make our class look worse." Another boy chimed in, not having any pity for the boy.

Rey was also looking at the distant explosions. However, his gaze soon shifted to Elias, who was standing at the edge of the cliff. A little push, and he would fall off the cliff and die.

He started condensing wind in his hands, as if wondering whether he should do it. He wanted to kill Elias with his own hands, but in his present state, he wasn't sure if he could.

He had to master the other elements to crush Elias so that he didn't repeat the same mistake as last time. However, that was going to take time. If Elias dropped out of the academy by then and returned to his family, would he ever have his revenge?

Although this didn't feel like the perfect revenge, it did eliminate all variables and ensured that Elias was going to die at his hands.

Still, attacking someone from behind felt cowardly. He at least wanted to face Elias when he killed him, to see his face contort in horror.

"Elias?" he suddenly called out.

"Huh?" Elias turned around, hearing his name.

The moment he looked back, he saw the grin on Rey's face.

"Have a safe trip to the afterlife." Rey tossed out another condensed wind blast, which was almost impossible to avoid.

He didn't send just one wind blast, but multiple, to make sure Elias couldn't dodge.
