Chapter 19 - Chapter 19 Returning to Safe Zone

Major Kyle examined Sylas closely and said, "He's fine. He's just exhausted and fell unconscious."

"Is he awakening an ability too?" Dylan asked, his gaze fixed on the gruesome scene before them.

Major Kyle swept his eyes over the carnage surrounding them and nodded. "It looks like it. You also passed out when you suddenly awakened your ability."

Dylan nodded in agreement. "It's good that he's awakening an ability too. I wonder what kind it is."

Shuan, still holding Sylas, glanced at the blood-soaked alley and added, "Just looking at the scene in front of us, I'd bet it's a powerful attack-type ability."

"Let's head back first. It's going to be dark soon, and we need to return to the safe zone," Major Kyle interrupted, his tone firm.

Everyone immediately agreed with him.

"Let me carry him," Dylan offered, stepping forward. Without any sign of struggle, he lifted Sylas onto his back with ease.

"As expected of a strength-type ability," one soldier remarked.

"Comrade Dylan can lift and toss a car without breaking a sweat. For him, carrying an adult man is like carrying an ant," another soldier exclaimed in admiration.

The nearby soldiers couldn't hide their amazement as they watched Dylan's effortless display of strength.

Shaun carried the child, and together, the group left the alley. As they stepped onto the main road, Dylan glanced at the carnage and remarked, "The scene here on the road and inside the alley feels different. It's like they were attacked by two separate abilities."

Everyone nodded in agreement, their expressions growing more serious. Major Kyle and Dylan exchanged a look before both turned their gazes toward the child in Shaun's arms.

"What?" Shaun asked, confused at first by their stares. But as realization dawned, his eyes widened, and he instinctively looked down at the sleeping child in his arms.

"Don't tell me... the child is also awakening an ability," Shaun said, his voice filled with shock.

"Let's hurry back," Major Kyle said, his tone firm as he took a long, solemn look at the child.

They returned to the place they had been hiding and retrieved Leo, who was still unconscious and being guarded by a few soldiers.

With everyone accounted for, the team quickly made their way back to Maple Street. The horde of zombies that had swarmed the area earlier was nowhere to be seen. Some had scattered elsewhere, while the rest had been eliminated by Dylan after he regained consciousness.

A few hours earlier, Dylan had woken up in an unfamiliar place, surrounded by the rest of the team. Major Kyle and the soldiers had been visibly excited and relieved to see him awake, especially after witnessing his superhuman strength before he passed out.

However, Dylan not seeing Sylas among the group immediately asked the situation. Major Kyle quickly gave him a rundown of what had happened and the dire situation they now faced.

Dylan was stunned by his newfound ability and eager to test it out. Without hesitation, he, Major Kyle, and a few soldiers headed back to Maple Street. Along the way, Dylan effortlessly picked up a heavy steel pole as if it weighed nothing, using it to smash the zombies they encountered in the alley.

The remaining zombies on Maple Street suffered a similar fate. Dylan's strength had reached an extraordinary level after awakening his ability. Not only was his physical power overwhelming, but his speed far surpassed that of the other team members. Alone, he massacred the entire horde of zombies, swinging the heavy steel pole with ease and reducing the undead to nothing more than pulp.

Even the massive steel gate of the school stood no chance against him. Dylan lifted it effortlessly and wielded it as a weapon, crushing zombies beneath its weight. The sheer display of power left his teammates in awe as they watched him dominate the battlefield.

After clearing the zombies on Maple Street and checking their vehicles and medical supplies, the team returned to their hiding place. As they arrived, they saw Shaun, who had just reached the hideout with an ugly expression on his face.

Upon hearing what had happened and learning about Sylas's condition, Dylan's expression darkened. Without hesitation, he rushed out again to find him. Major Kyle quickly organized the team, assigning half the soldiers to stay behind and guard the unconscious Leo. With the remaining soldiers, he set off to search for Sylas.

After reaching Maple Street, Major Kyle laid Sylas on the car's back seat and sat beside him in the corner.

Meanwhile, some of the soldiers hurriedly transported the remaining medical supplies from the clinic basement and loaded them onto the truck. A few others stood guard, keeping a lookout for any approaching zombies.

Bang! Bang!

The sharp sound of gunfire echoed as the guards swiftly took down a handful of wandering zombies.

Within fifteen minutes, everything was packed and ready.

"Let's go," Major Kyle commanded, and the convoy of cars began making its way back toward the safe zone.

When they finally saw the gates of the safe zone, everyone let out a collective sigh of relief. The day had been a whirlwind of events, full of danger and unexpected turns. Making it back alive felt almost unreal to the weary group.

The soldiers stationed at the gate recognized the convoy's approach from afar and quickly opened the gates. It was already dark, and the headlights of the vehicles pierced through the night as the convoy entered the safe zone.

Without wasting a moment, Major Kyle took the unconscious Sylas, Leo, and the little boy out of the vehicles and headed straight to the special ward.

"Hurry and call Doctor Farlo," Major Kyle instructed a nurse urgently.

Within moments, Doctor Farlo arrived, striding quickly into the special ward. "What happened?" he asked, as he looked at the unconscious figures.

Major Kyle quickly explained the events they had encountered, emphasizing the awakening of abilities.

"He's also awakened a strength-type ability. Dylan, let Doctor Farlo run a few tests on you," Major Kyle instructed.

Dylan immediately stepped forward, greeting Doctor Farlo with a respectful nod.

"Interesting... interesting..." Doctor Farlo murmured as he carefully examined the unconscious Sylas, Leo, and the child, his hands trembling slightly with excitement.
