Chapter 20 - Chapter 20 Space Ability

Next, he turned to Dylan, scrutinizing him from head to toe while circling him. After a moment, he retrieved a syringe and drew a small sample of Dylan's blood.

"Major Kyle, for the time being, don't disclose this ability to anyone," Doctor Farlo said, adjusting his glasses.

Major Kyle nodded firmly. "Rest assured. My team members are all tight-lipped. By the way, did you find anything about that woman from the previous day?"

Doctor Farlo paused, his gaze shifting between Dylan and the three unconscious individuals on the bed. "Well, her situation is special. I was confused at first, but now, seeing these people, I think I know what's going on."

Major Kyle's expression turned serious. "Do you mean she's also awakened an ability? Does that mean those who awaken abilities are immune to the zombie virus?"

Doctor Farlo, now drawing blood from Sylas, Leo, and the child, replied thoughtfully, "That's something we'll know for sure after running some tests."

January 18, 2025

When Sylas woke up, it was already the next day. He squinted his eyes as the sun's rays hit his face. For a moment, he was disoriented, but the smell of disinfectant immediately made him wide awake. He looked around and saw empty beds next to him. He was the only one sleeping.

'I am back in the safe zone,' Sylas thought. The last thing he remembered before falling unconscious was being called by someone and seeing a blurry figure.

He slowly sat up and stretched his arms. He felt that he had a very satisfying sleep. All his tiredness was gone, and he didn't feel any soreness anywhere.

He recalled what had happened yesterday and lifted his hand to examine it. He could vividly remember how space had rippled and bent at the wave of his hand. At that time, Sylas was in a desperate situation, and he didn't know how he did that. Thinking back to the moment now, Sylas couldn't help but be amazed.

'Did I awaken an ability too?'

He thought and tried to wave his hand at the nearby curtain. But nothing happened, making Sylas question his ability.

'What's going on? Did I not awaken an ability?'

Sylas began to doubt himself. 'Let it be, it's already a blessing for me to make it out alive and be back in the safe zone,' he thought.

Sylas turned his head toward the small table by the bed. His mouth was dry, and he was feeling thirsty. He stretched out his hand, wanting to grab the glass of water, but to his surprise, the glass immediately disappeared from his sight.

What the f...!

Sylas widened his eyes and immediately jumped out of bed. He stretched out his hand and waved at the table.

'I swear there was a glass of water here just now. Where did it go? It doesn't make sense for it to suddenly disappear.'

Sylas turned to look around and saw that there was a glass of water on the table beside each bed. He immediately turned his attention back to his table.

"Where did it go? The glass of water," Sylas muttered as he looked at the table. Just then, to his horror, the glass immediately reappeared on the table.

Sylas stepped back in a hurry, stumbling.

What in the world?

This time, he felt something when the glass appeared. He could feel something inside him. He looked at the glass of water on the table, and a bold guess formed in his mind.

Don't tell me...

He immediately focused his mind on the glass once again, and it disappeared right in front of him. Then Sylas immediately focused his mind inside himself. He saw the glass of water inside him.

No, to be exact, it was in the space inside him. His heart started to beat wildly with excitement and nervousness.

"Is this my ability?"

"I possess space!"

"I can store or take away anything I want from now on!"

"I can store food, water, and weapons inside my space!"

Sylas played with the glass repeatedly, storing and taking it out of his space as he thought about the use of his space. He grinned foolishly at the thought of it.

'My ability is related to space, and I can use it to attack too. Yesterday's move seemed to be a spatial blade. I've only read about it in comics and novels. I didn't expect to experience it firsthand, let alone possess it.'

Sylas removed the lid and finally drank the glass of water.

Putting down the glass, he focused his mind on the space. Inside, the space was pitch black, and he could sense the area within it. It was quite large, about the size of one basketball court.

Just as he was about to explore further, he heard the sound of footsteps coming from outside, along with the laughter of a child.

'Dudu!'

Sylas immediately looked toward the door.

Leo, carrying Dudu on his shoulders, entered the room, followed by Shaun and Dylan.

Seeing Sylas awake and sitting on the bed, Dudu immediately called out happily.

"Brother! Brother!" Dudu called out, wanting to go to him.

"Sylas, you're finally awake!" Shaun said as he immediately stepped toward Sylas.

"You scared me, bro," Dylan added, looking at Sylas.

Leo immediately put Dudu down from his shoulders. The boy ran to Sylas and jumped on him.

"Brother!" Dudu sat on his lap and held him tightly.

Sylas held him with a helpless smile.

"How are you feeling now?" Shaun asked.

"I'm good. Haven't felt this good in a long time," Sylas replied.

"I felt that way after waking up too. Maybe it has something to do with our awakening abilities," Dylan said.

"Oh yes, what kind of abilities did you two awaken?" Sylas immediately questioned, looking at Leo and Dylan.

Dylan smirked and, without answering, placed his hand underneath the bed and easily lifted it with one hand.

"Whoa... Brother Dylan, what are you doing? Oh my God, your ability is strength type?" Sylas said in amazement.

Dudu's eyes sparkled, and he clapped his hands excitedly, shouting, "Superman! Superman!"

Dylan carefully put the bed down and said, "Yeah, my ability is strength type."

"And mine is healing," Leo added.

"Healing! That's amazing," Sylas said.

"What about yours? We saw the carnage in the alley yesterday, and it looked terrifying," Shaun asked excitedly.

Sylas gave them a faint smile and waved his hand toward the beds inside the room.

Puzzled by Sylas's actions, they turned to look at the beds. To their surprise, the beds disappeared right in front of their eyes.

"What the f...!"

"Oh my..."

"What kind of sorcery is this?"
