Kate was caught in the middle of the matter as she was at a loss for words.
Christina's eyes bulged with anger. "Miss Bolton, my observation is accurate! I knew from the first sight that this dude was a con man. Now, he has proven me right!"
Kate remained silent when Christina asked again, "Let's think about it. What correlation does dyspnea have with touching a patient's sensitive areas? That's a perfectly clear sign that he is nothing but a trickster!"
Even though Christina's points seemed thoughtful, Kate had a different view on the matter. Moreover, Roderick had just informed her that the longer the sickness stayed in her body, the more dangerous it became.
Then she said to her secretary, "Mr. Holmes seems to be responsible beyond such a thing. Also, you should know I won't spare him if it turns out that he only wanted to take advantage."
Christina's face remained frowned as she was unsatisfied.
This time, Kate turned to Roderick and said, "Please, you can continue with the treatment."
Roderick nodded calmly and gently placed his palm on Kate's smooth chest. His fingers heated up, and a surge of subtle green energy flowed into Kate's body.
The young lady let out a soft exhale as she felt a strange sensation in her body. All her veins felt awakened, and her eyes looked a bit more relaxed.
The next moment, Roderick cut off the flow of energy and withdrew his hand from Kate's chest.
Instantly, Christina asked Roderick, "Is that all?"
"Yes, it's done," Roderick replied casually, making Christina scoff.
To Christina, Roderick was nothing but a joke. How could he claim that he had treated the sickness that remained challenging to all the renowned doctors across the county with just a touch?
"Are you sure Miss Bolton is healed, or would you like to enjoy the smoothness of her skin more?" Christina sneered.
"Christie?!" Kate hurriedly scolded.
"I'm so sorry, Miss Bolton, I can't allow this guy to fool us with his tricks. I'm sure you didn't feel any difference in your condition, did you?" Christina protested.
Kate went silent as she didn't know how to express what she felt. It was a sensation she had never experienced in her entire life.
"There's no way such a sickness can be treated by just a touch. Now, I feel disappointed that you didn't listen to my advice and allowed this con to take advantage of you. I would never give a trickster like him the chance to treat me."
Christina was lamenting when Kate suddenly felt a twist in her chest. She hastily opened the door beside her and vomited a small object that resembled charcoal.
"Huh?!" Christina's eyes widened in shock as she turned to look at it.
"What's this?!" she asked in disbelief.
"It's a poison called Kardoxin," Roderick explained.
"Poison?!" The ladies were taken aback.
"Kardoxin can survive many years in the victim's body, affecting the heart. After a long period without being treated, it will lead to chronic chest pain and dyspnea. Eventually, the victim's respiratory system will be blocked until they pass away."
Kate and her secretary became frightened as Roderick explained it.
Christina turned to look at her boss and said, "I know the Bolton family has many enemies, but who would be so bold as to poison the Ice Queen of River City?"
Kate chuckled, "Enemies never sleep. They always plan evil. But they won't win every time. I will catch them."
Christina nodded slowly. With a slight doubt in her mind, she asked Kate, "How are you feeling now?"
"I feel better. All the pain in my chest has disappeared, and my breathing has improved. Mr. Holmes is indeed a miracle doctor!" She couldn't express her gratitude enough.
Christina was extremely surprised as her face flushed red with embarrassment.
She knew her boss would never joke about such a serious matter.
Christina was worried about her past attitude toward Roderick. If she hadn't been against him earlier, she would have asked for his help to cure her illness as well.
"Mr. Holmes, thank you so much for restoring my health." Kate couldn't appreciate Roderick enough.
"It's no problem. Our agreement?" Roderick was more concerned about the rare root than anything else.
"Sure, it's intact. I kept the calestrus in my manor for safety purposes."
Roderick nodded slowly. "I would like to have it today. Can we go now?"
Christina's mind was still in a pool of regret when Kate ordered her, "Let's go, Christie."
With an unhappy expression, Christina started the car engine and drove off.
They were about to leave the route that led to Lily Garden when Christina saw the road blocked with heavy planks and big worn-out tires.
"What's the problem?" Kate asked as she noticed the car slowing down.
"The road is blocked, Miss Bolton," Christina pointed in the direction, her voice tinged with worry.
Kate jumped out of the car as soon as she saw the obstruction on the road. She gazed around but couldn't catch sight of anything strange.
The road wasn't blocked earlier when they followed it, so why was it blocked now?
Since there was no other route out of there, Kate was about to clear the obstruction from the road when an intimidating voice striked. "If I were you, I wouldn't attempt that."
Kate turned to look in the direction from which the voice had come, and she saw a group of ferocious mobsters emerging from a hidden corner.
