It was Friday morning. Sarah was all set and ready. Charlotte was sitting on her sofa, tapping away on her phone. Nick hadn't arrived yet so the girls had some time.
"So," Charlotte began. "I was thinking that this weekend, we could go to that local dance club at Freeway."
"The dance club at Freeway? You know I can't go." Sarah said sadly.
"What do you mean? We'll just go, dance and have fun. Not a problem."
Sarah looked at her friend. "My mom is away for a shift at the hotel and I need to be here to take care of the house. And what if Mom comes home early and doesn't find me here? I can't be outside late at night. I also need her permission to go somewhere that far."
Charlotte stared at her in disbelief. "I cannot believe you are worried about that. Really? Isn't your Mom always on shifts? And assuming she comes home early, you are a teenager. Have fun. You are not going to stay there long. Say 8pm-ish and we're coming home."
Well, Mom is never home at 8pm-ish.
"Alright. I'm coming." Sarah agreed.
Charlotte squealed. "Perfect."
Just then, they heard Nick's car horn. They picked up their bags and rushed outside. Nick was standing outside his car and was happy to see Sarah… and Charlotte.
Nick waved at Sarah as she came closer. "Good to see you're okay."
"Yeah. Me too."
"Excuse me." Charlotte butted in. "Can we go now?"
Sarah saw a tiny blush on Nick's cheeks. He led them in and they were off. They soon reached school and settled in for their classes. Throughout the day, Sarah avoided Amanda and even tried to get the scene she had witnessed yesterday off her mind. It seems impossible, though.
School was over and Nick dropped them home.
"See you on Monday." Nick yelled.
"Yeah. Goodbye." The girls yelled back.
The girls waved as Nick left. Charlotte waved longer before she turned to face Sarah.
"And I will see you tomorrow at the dance club."
"You too." Sarah said and waved her goodbye.
At night, Sarah paced around her room nervously. She had never been out late before. Without telling her Mom. Not that her mom was around for her to ask permission. She let out a frustrated sigh before going to bed.
The next day, she did her chores and studied her books. The dance club outing was in the evening so she had time. Soon, it was evening. Sarah didn't tie her hair in a ponytail. This time, she let it loose. She wore a crimson gown and a white belt. She put on red lipstick and wore her best white high heels to compliment the belt. She checked herself out in the mirror.
Sarah, you look good.
She twirled around and left after one more look of inspection.
She knew Charlotte would be waiting for her at the club so she hurried as fast as she could. She was lucky to get a bus and soon, she was there. She spotted Charlotte standing at the entrance. She waved at her and walked in her direction. Charlotte was happy to see her.
"Girl, you look fabulous." Charlotte squealed.
"So do you. Looking hot." Sarah checked her out.
Charlotte wore a pink crop top that exposed her belly, a deep blue jacket and deep blue jeans. She also wore pink sneakers and her hair made her look even more beautiful. She had put on a bit of makeup too.
The girls went inside and Sarah was awestrucked. The place was buzzing with colors and dance moves. Flashing lights were everywhere. The people showcased their moves, there was a bar stand, VIP spot and the DJ stand where the DJ was vibing with the songs he played. The dance club was amazing.
"This place is amazing, Charlotte." Sarah said.
"I know, right? Come on, girl. Let's dance."
And they went to the dance floor. They had the time of their lives. They went to the bar stand to get drinks. They ordered and sat down to drink. Just then, Sarah heard a familiar voice.
"One ice tea for me."
Sarah turned to see…
"Nick?"
Him, again? Why do I see him everywhere?
Nick turned and looked surprised. "Sarah? Charlotte? What are you girls doing here?"
"We were going to ask the same thing. What are you doing here?" Sarah asked.
"I come here every weekend. This is my special spot." Nick explained. "What are you doing here?"
"To have a fun weekend. I invited her." Charlotte said.
"I see." He nodded. He turned to Sarah. "You wouldn't have come here on your own."
"What? No! I would. I just, well…" Sarah didn't really know what to say.
Nick laughed. "Yeah. Anyway, I'm glad your friend invited you. You should have fun. You're always too serious and uptight all the time."
"Thank you." Charlotte said in a ''i told you so' manner.
Sarah blushed and casted her gaze downwards.
Nick put forward his hand. "Come on. Let's dance."
"I'm a bit tired from all the dancing." Sarah refused.
"Well, I'm not. You can take me." Charlotte said.
Nick looked at Sarah for a moment before turning to Charlotte. He led her to the dance floor and they were gone. Sarah sipped on her drink as she watched the crowd. She checked her phone. 9:30pm.
Oh no!
She gulped down her drink quickly and headed to the dance floor. She tried looking for Charlotte and Nick but they were nowhere to be found.
Where are they?
She decided to leave and text her when she got home instead. As she was coming outside of the building, she saw Charlotte and Nick. They were kissing.
WHAT IN THE WORLD?!
"Guys?!" Sarah shouted.
They turned to her with shocked expressions on their faces.
"It's not what it looks like." Nick tried to explain. "I mean, it is what it looks like but…"
"It is what it looks like. You guys are dating and never bothered to tell me." Sarah was surprised and confused at the same time.
She thought about him being with Amanda.
"We will explain. Um, were you going home?" Charlotte asked nervously.
Sarah yelled at her. "Of course I was going home. I was looking for you so we could go home together but apparently, you were here, being busy."
"I could take you home. We could explain on the way." Nick offered.
"Yes, yes. Let's do that." Charlotte agreed.
Sarah looked at them both before accepting the offer. They went straight to Nick's black car. His driver hadn't come with him so Nick took the wheels.
Tonight just got weird.
