Sarah avoided Nick through the week. She wouldn't give him a moment to talk to her in the car or school. It was payback but she knew she would have to face him soon.
It was a free period. Sarah was strolling to the library when suddenly, a person roughly grabbed her arm and pulled her to the special spot. They stopped and the person turned to face her.
"What is your problem?" Nick asked, with an annoyed look on his face.
Sarah released her arm from his hand. "My problem. What do you mean?"
"You are avoiding me."
"No, I'm not." Sarah denied. "You are the one avoiding me."
"Is it because of the conversation at the music room?"
Sarah rolled her eyes at him. "So now you remember."
Nick let out a frustrated sigh and moved closer to her. "I told you before and I will tell you again. I am not cheating."
"And my eyes don't lie to me." Sarah said, copying the same movement.
"Right now, they are."
"They are not."
"Where's the evidence?" Nick asked with a smirk on his face. "And even if you saw me with them, it doesn't really prove that I have something romantic to do with them."
Sarah's face reddened. Soon, she realized her face was inches away from his. She stepped backwards and adjusted her hair.
"Look, Nick. I know what I saw and instead of you just admitting it so that we can work on a solution, you are denying and making this harder for you."
"I'm making it harder for myself."
"Yes, you are. For you, for Charlotte, for those girls."
Nick's face looked surprised when she said 'those girls' but quickly became angry again.
"You know who is facing it harder, Sarah? Me." Nick moved closer again. "And you know what's the hardest? It's that you are too blind to see and you'll never understand."
Sarah looked at him in confusion.
Nick's eyes showed a glint of disappointment. "You won't get it." And he left.
Sarah looked on as he left. She didn't understand what he said but she was determined to. So, she ran after him.
"Hey, stop." She yelled but he kept going.
She realized that she couldn't catch up with him and stopped. She let out a sigh as she turned the other direction that led to the secret place. She sat on the swing, not too deep in her thoughts. Then, something crossed her mind. A dreadful memory that felt as though she was experiencing it again. This time, she would be the cause, only for a different reason.
Sarah shook her head. "No. Not this time. Charlotte can't go through another one."
But what could she do? Nick kept denying her accusations, even when she told him that she had seen him.
He is stubborn and sneaky. But so am I!
She was going to catch him in the act very soon.
But how?
