It was a new month and the first chilly Saturday. And as usual, Sarah had nothing to do. She laid on her bed, feeling bored out of her mind. Having had enough, she decided to stroll out. She took out her jacket from her closet and went downstairs. Her mom wasn't around. She picked up the keys from the dining table and headed outside.
The outside looked a bit foggy. Sarah shivered as the cold wind brushed her. She locked the door, put the keys in her jacket's pocket and started walking. She didn't know where in particular but anywhere that doesn't involve her house. She had gone some steps when a car stopped beside her. The window winded down to reveal Nick and Charlotte.
Great.
"Hi, Sarah." Charlotte squealed.
Sarah smiled and waved at them. "Hi, guys. Where are you going?"
"Oh. A new movie just came out and I thought of the perfect Saturday date." Charlotte answered as she held Nick's hand.
Nick looked uncomfortable as he tried to wiggle his hand free.
"Okay. I was just strolling."
"Maybe, you can come with us." Nick blurted as he finally freed his hand.
"What?!" Sarah and Charlotte looked at him with shock and surprise.
"No, thanks. I don't want to be third wheeling." Sarah said.
"No, you won't. Please." Nick looked at her with pleading eyes.
"Um…" Sarah looked at Charlotte for some confirmation.
"Uh, yeah. Y-you can." Charlotte stuttered. "I mean, you probably didn't have anything to do and this could be like a friends' outing and stuff. Right?"
If Charlotte was upset, she did a really good job not showing it. Sarah looked at both of them.
"Right. Okay, let's go." Sarah agreed.
She went to the back seat and Nick drove off. It was an awkwardly silent ride before they finally reached the cinema. They got out of the car and entered the building. Nick and Charlotte went to the reception to buy tickets while Sarah stood a distance away. Her eyes wandered around. Then, she spotted a guy at the entrance. She looked at him long enough and gasped. Her eyes went wide as she almost fell backwards. Nick ran towards her and stopped her from falling. Charlotte went to her.
"Sarah, are you okay?" Nick asked with a concerned voice.
Sarah looked at the entrance. The guy was gone. She looked at Nick and saw worry and concern in his eyes. As for Charlotte, it was that familiar look. Sarah quickly stood up.
"Yeah. I'm okay." Sarah answered nervously.
But Nick wasn't convinced. "I could drop you home if you want."
Sarah shook her head. "No, it's fine. I'm fine. I don't want to ruin your date."
Nick wanted to say something but Charlotte interrupted him.
"Babe, she said she's okay." Then, she turned to Sarah. "Right?"
"Yeah. And besides, I can go home by myself. No need to help me."
Nick didn't say anything but he agreed. They went to the theatre to watch the movie. Sarah wasn't paying attention as she kept thinking about the guy. She started to feel nauseous, so she rushed to the bathroom. Getting there, she washed her face and stared into the mirror, her head swirling with thoughts.
I hope I'm dreaming. This isn't happening.
She took a deep breath and left the bathroom. She had walked some steps when she bumped into someone.
"I'm sorry. I didn't…"
"It's alright." The guy said.
Sarah looked up at his face and froze. It was the same guy she saw at the entrance. The guy's brown eyes looked at her.
"Oh my Gosh! Sarah! It's you!" The guy was surprised to see her.
Sarah gulped. "Hi, um…"
"Hey! Sarah!" Nick called out as he rushed towards her, with Charlotte behind.
"Hi, Charlotte." The guy said as he waved at her.
Charlotte didn't look happy to see him.
"You know him?" Nick asked as he turned to Sarah.
Sarah's eyes looked down. "Yes. This is Daryl."
