For days, Sarah had to put up with Charlotte talking about Nick being the best boyfriend she ever had. It was cute at first but later, it started to get overwhelming.
Sarah would spend her free periods, lunch break and even weekends listening to Charlotte.
"Nick is so sweet."
"He is such a charmer."
"He always whispers to me about how beautiful I am every time."
"He told me that my eyes were the most beautiful eyes he had ever seen."
The list could go on. Charlotte would even ask when she would get a boyfriend.
"I'm telling you, Sarah. Having a boyfriend is the best thing in the world. If you are lucky, you can get someone like Nick."
However, Sarah could care less about having a boyfriend. It was a Saturday morning and Sarah was on the phone, listening to Charlotte rant about Nick for the twenty fourth time.
Yes, she was counting.
Deciding that she had enough, she excused herself on the phone and hung up.
Oh My Gosh!
Weekends were always boring for Sarah since there was nothing to do but study, which she did till noon. After that, she felt so bored. She decided to call Charlotte.
Charlotte answered after two rings.
"Hey, girl. What's up?" Charlotte said.
"I'm good. I just wanted to know if you have any plans. I'm bored at home."
"Well, I do. It's an outing but it's with Nick. Sorry."
Sarah sighed. Nick again.
"Alright. Bye."
"Bye." And Sarah hung up.
Sarah laid on her bed. Her two friends are going out and she is all alone, in her room, doing nothing. She decided to take a nap to pass time but it moved slower. It was 3pm. Having had enough, she decided to go to the park. She put on a hoodie and hopped outside.
The neighborhood wasn't too busy. Some shops were open and few people were walking on the road unlike the weekdays where everyone was rushing to work or school. That was why it was so hard to catch a bus. The sun wasn't harsh and the wind blew gently. The walk to Villa Park took fifteen minutes. The park wasn't crowded. There were just children and their parents. There were also some couples spending time together. Sarah sat on a bench, enjoying the trees, calmness and beauty. She inhaled the air and exhaled slowly. As she was relaxing, she sighted a couple. His arm was over a girl's shoulder and their backs were turned to her.
Aww. Romantic.
Sarah rolled her eyes at them. The couples turned to face each other. Sarah recognized the guy as Nick and also recognized the girl as someone who was not Charlotte. She knew the girl from school.
Nick was cheating on Charlotte with Ella.
But Charlotte said they were going out.
Then what was he doing here?
Sarah stared at them in shock as they walked away. She couldn't believe her eyes. She wanted to chase after them but decided against it.
No. I'll confront him later.
Her park relaxation was over and she went home. As she got home, she took a shower to clear her head but it wouldn't leave.
Why was Nick with Ella?
She also recalled the other girls he had been with. He was also with Jenny, Amanda and that girl.
But he was dating Charlotte.
The thought of telling Charlotte crossed her mind and she shook it off.
No. Not yet. I must confront Nick.
Besides, Charlotte might not believe her. She got out of the shower, wiped her wet body and wore indoor clothes: a red shirt and blue shorts. She headed to the kitchen to grab a snack. Her phone rang and showed the caller.
It was Charlotte.
Sarah didn't want to answer it but she had to. She pushed the urge of telling her out of her mind and answered.
"Charlotte. What's up?"
"Good. I just got back from my outing with Nick."
"I see."
"I know you missed me. You must have had a boring Saturday."
"Not really. How was your outing?"
"It was amazing! Nick is such a darling." Charlotte said excitedly.
Darling indeed.
"Um, Charlotte? Where did you guys go?" Sarah asked.
"Really? You want all the gist?"
"You can say so."
"Alright. We went to Antonio's Place. It was awesome, just the two of us."
Antonio's Place?! What the heck!
"And he was with you the whole time?" Sarah inquired.
"Duh. Where else would he be? I have to go. I am so exhausted. Talk to you later."
"Yeah. Bye." And Charlotte hung up.
Sarah's mind started working. If Nick was Charlotte at Antonio's Place, then he wouldn't have been at the park. But she saw him at the park with Ella. It could mean two things.
Either Charlotte was lying about the outing.
Or I was just seeing things.
But Charlotte would never lie to her.
And I had seen Nick with some girl.
UGH!
She tugged at her hair and sat down feeling frustrated. She really needed to know.
And Nick is going to tell me.
