Chapter 2 - Nick's Arrival

Sarah yawned as she slowly opened her eyes. She slowly rose up from her bed and glanced up at the clock on her wall. It was 7:30am.

Gosh, she was late! Again!

She quickly got out of her bed and headed for the bathroom. Soon after, she got out again with a towel tied around her chest. She scurried for what she could wear. A pink t-shirt and navy blue jeans.

Perfect.

She quickly wore them and went to check herself in the mirror. Not bad. She thought as she tied her hair into a ponytail.

"Sarah". A woman's voice called out. "Hurry downstairs and come have breakfast. You are late again."

"Coming, mom." She grabbed her bag and headed downstairs.

A pale skinned woman with blond hair was coming out of the kitchen with two plates of waffles. She set one down for Sarah. She took out cups and poured in orange juice. Mrs Andrews had blue eyes and they looked tired.

"I will be working a double shift this evening at the hotel." She said as she tied her hair into a bun. "So, I won't be coming home tonight. Make sure to remember…"

"I know, mom." Sarah interrupted. "Lock the doors and windows, don't let anyone in and be a good girl."

"That's my girl." She kissed Sarah's forehead. "Maybe later, I'll get the car fixed. I don't like seeing you late."

"Me too." Sarah sighed. She stuffed her mouth with more waffles and grabbed her shoes before leaving.

"Goodbye, honey. And good luck."

"You too, mom."

Sarah arrived at school just as soon as the school bell rang for the first class. She was breathing heavily as she ran. Her mind was clouded about being late and wasn't paying attention when she bumped into a boy.

WHOOPS!

His books and papers went flying everywhere. Oh no! Sarah moved to him but reminded herself that she was late.

"I am so sorry. Really, really sorry. I have to go." She apologized and left the scene before the boy could say anything.

Sarah found her classroom and lucky for her, the teacher wasn't there yet. She heaved a sigh of relief and went to find her seat which was of course next to Charlotte.

"Late again." Charlotte shook her head slightly. "You are lucky that it's Mr Rick's class."

Mr Rick came whenever he wanted, even if half of the period was gone.

"Yeah. Lucky." Sarah muttered.

Just then, Mr Rick entered and everyone went silent. He moved to the board and wrote out the subject of the day: Mathematics. The whole class groaned.

"Silence." Mr Rick boomed. "As you all know, we have a new student today. Come in, boy."

Everyone turned to see the new student and they were in awe. Truly, he was handsome. His glossy wine hair had streaks of white and was combed backwards. He had leaf green eyes, thin lips, tan skin and had the body of an athlete.

While everyone was drooling over him, Sarah couldn't believe her eyes. He was the same boy she had bumped into. She hoped that he didn't recognize her.

"This is Nicholas Granger and he will be joining us for this session." Mr Rick announced. "Welcome, Mr Granger."

The boy moved to find his seat. There were no empty seats except the one at the back of the class and the one beside Sarah.

No. Don't sit here, please. Sarah begged internally but the universe refused. He sat next to her as the class began. Sarah stole small glances at him when he wasn't looking and couldn't concentrate at all. As soon as the class was over, she picked up her bag and ran out of the room, with Charlotte behind her.

"Hey, why the rush?" Charlotte asked. She had never seen her friend act like this.

Sarah stopped by her locker and turned around to see if he was near. When she couldn't see him, she turned to her friend and explained everything.

Charlotte laughed. "No way! You are so lucky to have met him first. Damn, I wish I didn't come so early."

"Come on, Charlotte. It's not funny. I didn't even help him. He's going to think I'm one of those snobbish girls in school."

"No, he won't." Charlotte rolled her eyes. "Come on, I'm hungry. Let's go to the cafeteria and get something."

With that, Sarah put her books in her locker and they both headed to the cafeteria. The place was crowded with students. They soon got their food and found a place to sit. Sarah was drinking from a juice box and Charlotte was eating spaghetti when they heard a voice.

"Hi. Can I sit here?"

Sarah looked up and almost choked on her juice. It was Nicholas.

"Uh, yes. Yeah. Of course, you can sit. It's fine. It's totally fine." Charlotte babbled.

Sarah just gave an awkward smile.

Stay calm. He might not even remember you.

"So," He turned to Sarah. "Aren't you the girl that bumped into me and didn't even bother to help?"

Damn it! He remembered.

"Yeah, that's me. I am really sorry." Sarah apologized. "I was late and I couldn't help you. So sorry."

"That's alright. I'm Nicholas but call me Nick."

"I'm Sarah."

"And I'm Charlotte. Nice to meet you." Charlotte butted in.

Soon, there was an awkward silence. Quick, Sarah. Make a conversation.

"So, I heard your dad was rich." Sarah mentally face palmed herself as soon as those words left her mouth. Dang it, Sarah.

"Yeah, he is. I guess you don't see rich boys here everyday." Nicholas grinned.

"Yeah, we don't." Charlotte said.

"Well, if your dad is rich, shouldn't you be in a much bigger and fancier school than this." Sarah asked.

"Yeah." He half shrugged. "But it's only for this session. After that, I'll be gone."

"Oh. In that case, I hope you enjoy your time here." Sarah said.

"You make it sound like he's in jail serving his sentence." Charlotte scoffed.

"Oh, I didn't mean-" Sarah tried to explain but he just laughed. He and Charlotte started talking and it made her feel left out. She ate her food silently until the bell rang and it was time for another class. Nick was in a different class so he went the opposite direction.

"Nicholas Granger sat with us at lunch. We are so lucky." Charlotte squealed as she jumped up and down.

And Sarah had met him thrice today. It seemed that this was a lucky day
