Chapter 16 - The Fall Of Strathfife

Though the Knights of the Round Table tried to conquer the land of Caledonia, they failed miserably each time.

When King Arthur brought in Ddraig for help, the mighty Wootsman pummeled him into the mountain ranges of Angr'od.

When Merlin cast his spells of fiery doom over the Caledonians, the wise Fealor wrought walls of the unseen, saving the kingdom.

Sir Proximus the Great trampled over the hallowed Knights of the Round Table, forcing them into utter disgrace.

These mighty feats forced the Holy City of Camelot to cede the realm of Caledonia. The mighty strength of Angus and the kingdom of Strathfife held dominion over the highlands of Caledonia. Everyone cheered in his name.

Initially enemies, both the great Arthur and the mighty Angus forged a strong bond. They helped create peace and glory throughout the British Isles. Their treaties demanded mutual aid, in prosperity and adversity.

Yet this peace did not last long.

In the year 535 AD, the dark sorcerer Zarthax led his army of unholy abominations to attack the mighty citadel of Strathfife. Though brave and mighty, the citadel fell to his dreaded army of steel men and impure beings.

Though Angus was able to seal the fiend in liquid crystal, he was mortally wounded, perishing at the battle's end. King Arthur arrived too late, a fact he eternally regretted.

The armor and hammer were presumably lost after the battle, never to be found again...

With a soft thwip, Albert closed the book, sighing. Subaru stood in awe of the history behind the amulet and its precious wielder.

Lifting his head, he questioned Albert, croaking, "I-I don't believe I'm worthy of the armor. I'm just a boring old high school student whose only redeeming qualities are scaring away girls and his enormous collection of eroge. Is it possible?"

After a brief moment of contemplation, Albert stared at Subaru.

"No."

Taken aback, Subaru questioned, demanding answers, "Why!? Why can't I!?" Shaking his head, Albert explained, "Boy, I have, in my long line of work here, handled a plethora of relics. With my astounding knowledge, I can confirm that, besides death, it's impossible for ownership of the relics to be transferred. If you don't mind the pain, I can get my chainsaw and cut you in half."

"What the—! Is there really no other way? I thought that by finding someone worthy, I could shift it to them. I saw it on TV… Trailing off, Subaru's argument fell moot, for even he realized what he was asking for stretched too far.

Slinking his head with a nervous giggle, he fell under the questioning gaze of a very ripped geezer.

Please, please, please… anyone, please do something...

Begging for a miracle to divert his embarrassment, Subaru prayed for a distraction, any distraction.

Crash!

Behind the counter, a potted vase fell to the ground, splattering its contents in the shiny floor. "Dammit Katz! I just had the floor waxed yesterday. Hey, come back here you good-for-nothing cat! Come back here right now, before I boot the ever loving crap out of you..."

Taking it as his cue, Subaru scampered out of the store, without realizing that two pairs of eyes were following him...
