Chapter 20 - 'Bad' Luck Begins

From that day onwards, bad luck began.

Satoru was blamed for the many mistakes that kept occurring at his workplace. Sakura was nearly crushed by falling items in the local supermarket; the tinned tomatoes nearly buried her alive. Hinata in school was being labelled as a slut, with photoshopped images of her coming out of love hotels. Even Ryu was not spared; every time he logged in to play games, he was constantly being hacked and relentlessly bullied.

Subaru was also being subjected to the same treatment, if not worse. His shoes were constantly vandalized in the lockers, with pins and needles shoved in, along with death notes. His desk, marked with graffiti, made it impossible for him to sit and enjoy class. Despite all of this, these issues seemed to resolve themselves:

The bullies who vandalized his shoes stepped on several rusty nails, causing them to get rusty feet. Those who graffitied his desk somehow managed to stab themselves with paintbrushes, causing severe damage to their dominant hands.

At this point, all the students in Moriyasu believed him to be the incarnation of disaster. While it did make school more entertaining, it was not so fun for those involved, especially the teachers. They had even heard that the principal seemed to be losing hair by the pound, spreading rumors that he was going abroad for a hair transplant in Turkey. There even seems to be a cult based on Subaru, where people believe that Subaru will help destroy their enemies if they offer something they value most to him.

Despite circumstantial evidence of foul play, everyone knew who to blame.

Danujo.

Or to be more specific, the Zeo Clan to which he belongs. Though the Ida family and Subaru did not know why, they seemed fixated on the amulet, which the Ida family did not believe was stolen, as it was their family heirloom from centuries ago. All they knew was that it was lost by Subaru, and they were thankful for that.

Though Subaru did not tell them that the amulet had somehow fused with him.

Guilty that his actions had caused his family harm, Subaru did not go out practicing with his armor, hoping the Zeo Clan would leave them alone.

And it did seem to work.

For the next few days, the harassment decreased significantly. Satoru was no longer blamed for mistakes at work he did not cause. Sakura could safely go shopping without fear of death. Hinata's false accusations were withdrawn, and those who harmed her apologized. Even Ryu could play games peacefully, without fear of being hacked.

This lulled Subaru into thinking they had given up. Sighing in relief, he believed they must have left, since they could no longer connect the 'Kamen Rider- with the Ida family.

It was all a big mistake.

Coming home from school one day, he witnessed a gagged and bound Hinata, fear etched deep in her eyes, being shoved into a white van. Just as he was about to run over, the men responsible picked up their phones, called someone, before driving off.

He could only watch in despair as they drove away.
