Chapter 1 - just another day..

'Beep! beep!'

"Argh.. shut up." Jack grumbled, lazily searching for the alarm clock stationed on the top section of his desk. Gotten hold of it he threw it to the wall, smashing it into bits.

'Why does the weekends have to end so soon?' Jack sighed, sitting up straight. He was an average teenage boy, with short dark ruffled hair. Lazy eyes, and a rather considerable thin frame.

Getting up Jack then proceeded to the bathroom, not to far from the awkward looking bed. Brushing his teeth and taking his bath, he hurriedly rushed out from the bathroom into the small room to change.

"I wore this last week.." jack mumbled, his frail hand running through the collar of a blue top with some holes. There wasn't much clothes in this closet infact, there were only six tops and three pants if one counted.

"I'll take lucky black today." He let out a small smile, that looked like a sigh rather than a smile. Putting on the black top with brown pants, that looked as if it was designed by rats. Jack then took a pair of brown sandals.

Going to the desk by his bed he crouched down a bit, bringing out a small mirror from underneath. Gazing at himself, he held the urge not to burst out in laughter at how miserable he was, instead chuckling a bit.

"You're hot jack." he muttered, brushing his hair with his hand because he didn't posses a comb or brush. Finishing up he grabbed the only black cross bag he had, strapping it to himself and heading out the room.

"I'll be back before dinner roomy." He softly spoke in a whispering tone, barely audible shutting the door.

'Great, nobody's out yet so I should be clear.' Going down the half damaged steps, jack was careful to be as stealthily as he could.

"Jack Anderson!" His name was called out, forcing him to come to a halt.

'Shit.. how the hell did she notice me?' Jack inwardly cursed. He did his best to be as silent as possible, but still he was spotted.

The door closest to the step labelled room 12a opened, and out came an old woman in her late 60's wearing a surprisingly short purple dress. She had grey hair but some parts were still black, giving it a mix.

"I don't want to assume you were avoiding me Anderson." Miss Lou grumpily said with a frown, crossing her arms around her sagging blossoms.

"O-of course not miss Lou." Jack awkwardly uttered, scratching his head a bit. "I was just careful not to trip over the stairs again." He lied hoping she bought it.

Darting a scary look at jack she then scoffed, definitely not buying into his lies.

"This is the 6th month your rent's been due Anderson."

"I know miss Lou, I promise to pay you all I owe you with interest." Jack calmly said with a determined expression, but miss Lou wasn't giving in to his charms.

"Bullshit Anderson! That's what you told me last month. And the month before!" She snorted, adjusting her oval transparent glasses. "Have the rent by next tomorrow or am kicking you out."

"B-but miss Lou.."

"No buts! You have until next tomorrow Anderson. Pay up, or you'll be thrown out to the streets where you belong!" She yelled slamming the door, leaving jack pondering on her words.

"Great, today just got better." He sighed shaking his head, he didn't dwell on it too long. Miss Lou was the landlady of the apartment he rented, and he'd established quite a friendly bond with her. That's why he's been able to withhold 6 month of rent from her, without her calling the cops on him.

Yes he mostly dodged her, but he also talked his way out sometime.

'Jeez.. mis Lou seems really pissed.' Jack thought, as he'd never seen her act like that before. Yes she got angry, but it wasn't as much as this.

'Tsk.. she'll get over it. I'll make sure to buy her some nice wings she likes.' Jack smiled heading down to the door gates, as he proceeded out of the apartment.

"Ha... Nothing like the corroded air from the company's smoke." Jack inhaled deeply, praising the corroded air that could kill him.

"Just another day." Jack lazily watched as he saw the same old patterns, he usually saw everyday being repeated. The mailman dropping off letters in the mailbox, the gardeners trimming the plants. Steam locomotive 80's transports buzzing about.

These were the same old things he would see, each and everyday he stepped out to head to work.

He lived in a world called argathe. It was a big continent, housing a good population of people over 15million since the last census was conducted, which was six years ago. In this continent, were further divided into smaller cities.

He grew up in the smallest and poorest city so far, called harum city. Here nothing was ever in good condition, and the means of living here we're harsh. One had to get a job in order to survive around here, as there was no much resources to be mined or utilized.

The buildings were bad, and basically everything else here was shit. Families were advised to control the number of children, or they'll be forced to accept the consequences.

It was a harsh life but it had it's perks and cons, which jack and everyone else living here had to adapt to.

'The survival of the fittest.' That was the motto around here. Only the strongest would survive.

"Damn! am late for work." Jack cursed hastingly walking to his work, which was just two streets from his house.

'J and j enterprise.' He inwardly read the sign hung above a four story building, painted in gold and black. Shaking his head a bit, he renewed his resolve entering into the building through the gates.

"Who the hell are you kid?" He was stopped by two male guards, in the official blue and black uniform. They were holding a rifle each.

"Am jack, remember? I work here.."Jack tried his best to act as polite as he could, displaying his ID to them. Glancing through it, they looked at jack couple of times before allowing him in.

"My ID please." He smiled, making it look as real as he could. Glancing at each other they then burst out in laughter, as the guard with the ID casually tossed it to the floor.

"Thank you so much guys, really appreciate." Jack smiled, picking up his ID and turning round.

"Bastards." jack muttered walking away, his face contorting into a frown. This was the same embarrassment he faced everyday, of his 2years of working here. To be honest, there were some times he wanted to risk it all and throw a fist but he maintained his calm, and controlled his anger.

'I swear I would've knocked their jaws open if they weren't armed.' Jack imagined the scene playing in his head, but alas. It was just an imagination.

'One day I'll have my revenge.' Jack evily grinned, licking his lips. Entering the building there wasn't much people on the first floor, infact there were only about 15. He was stationed on the second floor, as this was his third year here.

Company policy stated he'd have to get a year of experience, before advancing to the next floor where the higher staffs are. Taking the stairs because the elevator wasn't working, he arrived on the second floor in no time.

Going in, there were less people here like about 10. Walking by they didn't recognize his presence either, because they were too involved in their work or they just didn't care.

Jack had a feeling it was the latter.

"I have to get this done in time." Jack sighed, staring at the huge pile of paperwork on his desk.

"Let's do this." Some few hours passed and it was already three pm in the afternoon, which indicates work was over or closing time.

"Shit! Don't this stuff ever ends." Jack growled, about to snap. He'd been working on the paperwork ever since, even missed lunch break. but it looked like he didn't get anywhere at all.

"Don't beat yourself too much Anderson." A soft voice, pulled him out from his dilemma.

"Kelly.." he uttered raising his head, as his eyes befell on a average brunette haired lady in her early 20's, wearing a sky blue top tucked in to her brown loose skirt stopping just after her knees.

"What are you doing here? aren't you meant to be-" pausing, jack looked round that's when he noticed he was the only one left here.

"Sorry." He apologized like a fool.

"Don't worry about it. Come on, let's go." She smiled, stretching her hand to which he accepted nodding. Making their way out of the building, they displayed their ID to the guards once again.

"So what are you doing tomorrow?" Kelly suddenly asked, her hands placed behind pushing out her marshmallows a bit.

"Ehhn.. working, what else?" Jack casually answered, not batting an eye towards her.

"I meant after idiot." She frowned, stomping her feet like an angry child.

"Ohh.." jack acted surprised, placing his hand to his chin thinking of something.

"It's more work!"

"You're an asshole!" Kelly shouted, nudging him on the shoulders as she stormed off. Shaking his head jack was about heading to his apartment, when he remembered something.

'Phew.. I almost forgot miss Lou special wings.' Jack chuckled awkwardly, with a bagged item in grasp. It was a 20minute walk from his apartment to the company and back, so he reached quickly.

Going up the stairs, he tried to be as silent as he could.

"Miss lou-" he paused, hearing some sounds coming from inside. Placing his ears, he could clearly hear the sounds of panting and he quickly put two and two together.

'Haha! miss Lou is busy, I better keep this for her.' He chuckled, deciding not to disturb miss Lou from her activities.

Pulling out his key he unlocked his door going in. Not bothering about changing, he crashed on the bed with a light thud.

'Fuck my life." Jack cursed laying on the bed, his body all numb and sore. He didn't know when his eyes fluttered shut from the exhaustion, he forgot to lock the door.
