Chapter 6 - A shocking betrayal

"Ha.. it's almost 7pm." Kelly sighed, sitting on her brown two sitter couch. She was wearing a scarlet sleeveless dress, with dozens of small ruby gems embroided on it.

"I expected him to have been here already." Kelly pouted a bit, taking a sip from the glass of water on the table in front. She'd long gotten dressed, and was waiting for jack to come pick her up.

'I never knew he was such a good kisser.' Kelly blushed, her face turning red. She could never get her mind off, from what transpired today at the office. Normally, she went out today thinking it'd be normal as usual, but things took a wild turn of events.

'Ahh.. why can't I stop thinking about.' Kelly inwardly yelled in a dilemma. It wasn't that she hated it no! it was the exact opposite, but it was just it felt a bit weird a first.

'I've always liked the idiot since we were little, but I never thought he'd take the lead.' Growing up in Agathe was hard, especially when they were living in one of the worst cities which was harum city. Life was tough here for them in harum, but they learned to adapt and become tough together.

Being a bold optimistic woman she'd always liked jack from small, giving him small gestures but he'd always been too timid to respond. And now that he finally did, she didn't know what to think.

Glancing to the round wall clock hung on the wall, she could clearly see the time which indicated 7pm.

"It's 7pm, where is he?" Kelly wondered, staring out the window for any signs of jack. But other than locomotive 80's cars passing by with the busing of people, and the pumping of companies machines. There was no signs of jack anywhere.

"Idiot! he better not have overslept." Kelly scoffed, folding her arms together. Deciding to wait a bit, Kelly scrolled through her phone. Her fingers stopping at the gallery app.

"Hmhmm.. so clumsy." Kelly giggled, staring at a recent picture of her and jack at a local restaurant eating pizza. Scrolling some more, she relieved relieved more of the other photos in her gallery. Mostly the one's containing her and jack, goofing about.

'It's past 7 now, where is he?' Kelly wondered, seeing the time indicating 15 minutes past 7.

'He's never been this late before.' She was starting to get worried, as jack had not been this late to her house before. Usually when he came over, it was the exact time or 5 minutes past latest. But now, he was over 15 minutes late.

"Something's definitely wrong.. maybe he's being kidnapped, or worse! I-i better go to his house now." Unable to hold back her worries anymore, Kelly decided it was best she headed to meet jack.

....

Five figures could be seen walking down the road, leading to j and j enterprise. Four were officials in uniform, while the fifth was a thin teenage kid that looked like he was deprived of nutrients for years.

'This doesn't feel right.' Jack thought, dragging his feet across the concrete ground. Since he was escorted by the guards in j and j enterprise, an unsettling feeling lingered in his heart.

At first, he thought he'd somehow been caught stealing the golden template. But he wasn't entirely sure, as everything played out beautifully except..

'Ryan.' jack frowned clenching his fist. 'Of course, he must've sensed something and reported.' Ryan was the only person jack encountered during the operation which was weird, as they've never spoken since jack got there.

So him suddenly asking for jack to do his paperwork today raised many red flags, and pointed all fingers at him. But still, either the fact jack was paranoid right now or a gut feeling, he could've swore Ryan didn't sense a thing.

'Maybe I should make a run for it?' They were almost reaching j and j enterprise, as jack could see the building in front. The thought of running crossed his mind several times, but he refrained for certain reasons.

First, if he ran now it'll only make matters worse as it'll mean he was guilty in the first place. Second, there was nowhere he could run too even if he tried. He was broke, and couldn't afford a pass to travel to another city. Third and most important, he wasn't a hundred percent sure they knew about the golden template.

'Why didn't they take me to the cops, or give me a sack letter?' He reasoned if they were truly aware, then he wouldn't be in this position. Either he'd be mopping in a cell somewhere, or he'd move in with Kelly eating junk food.

Honestly he preferred the latter but given his circumstances, he could only wait and see.

Reaching j and j enterprise, the gates were opened by the guard he met earlier during checkout.

"Well well.. if it isn't golden boy Anderson. we meet again." He grinned, with a wild expression plastered across his face.

"Wait.. I thought you were going to a date, hope we aren't interrupting you?"

"N-no! not at all, ha-ha!" Jack awkwardly chuckled, scratching his head a bit.

"My man." Gesturing with his hand, jack was then led into the building up the floors going up the floors.

"Well.. where is he?" Jack wondered stopping on the fourth and last floor, looking round for the boss of j and j enterprise. Though he hadn't seen him in person he saw his posters, so knew what the boss looked like.

"Oh he's not here, he's up there." The guard pointed upwards, making jack gulp a bit. There was no other floors up there, which only meant one thing.

Reaching the rooftop jack could see a figure backing him, and he immediately identified him as the boss of j and j enterprise. He was a bit shorter than jack at 5ft9, bald haired at the center with few hairs by the side. He's wearing black suit and pants, with black spiky shoe.

"Jack Anderson~" he spoke in a coarse voice, taking a puff from his pipe. Turning, jack could see his face clearly now as there was a deep scar, running from his brows down to his right cheek.

"You must be the boss of j and j, i-it's a pleasure to meet you mister Ronald." Jack smiled, stretching his hand out. Staring at it, Ronald then let out a scoff of disgust.

"You've worked for for just 2 years going to your third, but you've managed to impact positively on the company which is good." Ronald praised, clapping his hands at Jack's productivity.

'What the fuck?' Jack thought, taken aback by this. He'd expected a different scenario play out here, but never in his life did he dream he would be praised by the boss of the company.

"P-please, am the one who should be greatful. If it wasn't for j and j enterprise I would be out on the streets, scraping off crumbs and living in dumpsters." Jack joked to which they laughed a bit.

"But you gave me a chance, a chance at a better life." Jack spoke in a sad remorseful tone, wiping a single tear off his eye.

'Phew.. call me crazy, but it seems they don't know about the template.' Jack thought. He didn't know if lady luck, was finally giving a liking to him. Or an unknown source was positively spreading his name. But he'd play along, and hopefully this blows out good.

"Beautiful! am literally in tears right now." Ronald sobbed, wiping his eyes with his white handkerchief. "You know, you're just like me boy."

"Came from nothing, built our way up from scratch and became something. That's basically the underdog tail am I right? Haha!" Ronald laughed shaking his head a bit.

"You know.. people never took us seriously because we come from a poor background. But get a few millions, and they'll be chanting your name."

Shaking his head a bit, Ronald then walked up to jack standing just two meters in front of him. Nervous and freaking out on the inside, jack mustered up strength to maintain a calm face or he'll be screwed.

"J and j enterprise has always been a leading company in the department of mining gold, and our motto is?" he gestured jack completed it.

"Loyalty over royalty."

"Exactly. Now I believe all my staff knows that, which makes me wonder.. why one of my staff was seen breaking in to the template room." Ronald frowned, directly staring into Jack's eyes.

'Fuck, he knows.' Jack grunted a bit, his breathing gotten a bit rough. He could tell Ronald suspected him, but he chose to play the confused card.

"That's bad mister Ronald, who is it?" Jack asked, pretending and maintaining a poker face.

"Don't bullshit me Anderson, why'd you do it?" Ronald frowned, his former friendly attitude disappeared replaced with a much sinister one.

"I-i don't know what you're talking about. My station is at the second floor, and there's no way I can access the upper floors without the special pass." Jack calmly said, his mind racing to cook up story.

Now he was certain Ryan must've caught him in the act, and reported. But still, there wasn't substantial evidence as the security cameras weren't working, and no solid proof to bag him. except Ryan's testimony, which would clearly be ruled out as insufficient.

And there was no way Kelly would ever betray him.

"Haha!" Ronald laughed wholeheartedly, taking a big puff from his pipe. "You see that was what I told myself, until I heard miss Kelly's story."

Ronald dropped the bombshell, as a silhouette emerged from the roof door.

"K-kelly?" Jack stuttered in shock, staring like someone that'd just seen a ghost.

"Surprised to see me honey?" Kelly seductively spoke with a smug grin, further confusing jack by this shocking betrayal.
