Chapter 12 - Cute Helena, Genetic Equipment Store

Though the serums were very useful to him right now as he could use it to increase the speed of his nuclear pulse development. He didn't horde it as Chris was his good friend. He didn't want to leave the poor guy behind.

Moreover, since his abilities had already been awakened. Killing monsters was the fastest and easiest way to level up.

Miles did not plan to tell anyone about his system.

"Alright, bro. Once, I become a Super Soldier, I would even buy you an A-tier serum if that's what you want!" Chris said, thumping his own chest.

Of course, it was just a young man's irresponsible crowing, filled with hot air!

Only a few A-tier strengthening serums were issued every year.

As the pair chatted on, the ambulance finally arrived at the scene to help the injured. Because Miles helped fight off the greenscale reavers, he was given a hero's treatment.

"It's alright. I can do it myself. Go ahead and tend to the severely injured. I'm fine!" Miles stopped the nurse tending to him and picked up a bit of gauze to bandage his wounds.

When the nurse saw how deft his movement was, she nodded and left to help others. They couldn't afford to be distracted on the battlefield. For every extra minute saved was another minute that could be used to save someone's life.

No one knew that Miles's special ability allowed him to heal him to rapidly heal his injuries. But he deliberately slowed them down to avoid injuries.

Since the hastily set up triage tent by the ambulance team was tight and cramped, Chris did not come along. He waited outside for Miles, and when he saw his friend's arm and calf wrapped in thick, bloodstained bandages, he could not help but feel sorry for him.

"Are you sure you are alright?!" Chris asked with concern in his face.

"Mn, I'm alright. Oh, right, I have something I need to do. You should go back to school first." Miles stopped suddenly.

"Miles… are you still going to work? You shouldn't even go this week! This is the best time to train and increase our strength. You don't want to waste it."

Chris's statement caught Miles by surprise. He forgot to tell Chris that he had quit a week ago.

Chris's parents were still around and healthy. He even had a sister. While they were considered of average status, they had jobs that paid them well enough to raise Chris comfortably, albeit, minus some comforts in life.

Miles's thoughts drifted back and remembered his parents, no one knew what had happened to them. It was his aunt that took care of him from a young age to this age.

But he wasn't living with her as their building was very far from the school. Hence, he had been living in a small room opened within a government owned orphanage.

He didn't want to depend on his aunt for ever. Hence, his predecessor took up multiple jobs to take care of himself.

As a result, he did not have to make up excuses for Chris.

"I will at least have to inform the management. Don't worry. It won't delay anything. I have to go."

Miles said, waving to his friend, making sure to take a different road.

Chris watched Miles's back, feeling that this friend of his had become much calmer and more practical as if he had suddenly grown up.

Undoubtedly, after today's ignition injection, the rift, and the greenscale reavers' attack that almost took their lives, how could they not grow up?

Miles was unaware of what Chris was thinking. If he had known, he would have surely laughed a bitter laugh.

His experience spanned not just a single day but his past life too.

When he was sure that Chris wasn't trailing him, Miles slowed his pace down.

Rusthaven might have looked as if it was accessible from all directions, but even the tall buildings could not hide the fact that this was all but a slum, a terrible living environment.

There was not enough land here, and dangerous beasts overran the place, roaming around as they pleased. Far away from the main city of Helixia, security was poor.

To make matters worse, their most powerful ability user was only a Super Soldier.

Even their space stabilization device had been in disrepair for years.

Miles didn't go home. He took a hover taxi and flew towards Whitehaven District. What he was looking for can't be found in a place such as Rusthaven.

Skyscrapers using solar panels as windows blurred past as he traveled. He could see the bustling crowds in this district which was relatively safe and luxurious.

Miles couldn't help but sigh softly. Minutes later, the Sky Cruiser taxi's door opened, and Miles stepped out in front of a large store.

It was a Genetic Equipment store.

The store was huge even more than those housedls back at Rusthaven.

Sighing softly, Miles walked into the store.

The place was like a real company as there was receptionist behind a counter.

"Welcome to Starblaze Genetic Store. May I know what you might be looking to trade for?"

When the beautiful receptionist saw Miles, a trace of disdain flashed in her eyes before she concealed it quickly.

"Don't worry, I know where I'm going."

Miles simply waved his hands at her as he headed towards the second floor where a row of genetic combat suit was neatly folded.

A young lady quickly walked towards Miles. "Sir, I will be your sales assistant for today."

But once Matilda realized the pathetic state the customer was in, she cast him a look of utter disgust.

"Actually I'm just right now. Why don't I call Simone else to attend to you."

"Helena, come serve the customer! Remember to clean the floor after!" She immediately called at a younger worker who answered immediately.

"Ah, yes!" shouted the female clerk named Helena who came over to attend to Miles. As for the floor cleaning remark, it was clear that Maltilda felt that Miles was going to stain the store with his pathetic self.
