Chapter 7 - Bad News

Lady: "Elias! Elias Please! HELP ME!"

Man: "I'm sorry… you counted on me, and I failed you."

Other Man: "You! You will be the reason these people DIE!"

Elias woke up panting and sweating. He sits up and takes a moment to catch his breathe. He stood up and went to the bathroom; after freshening up he puts a shirt on and heads downstairs.

Aria: "Good afternoon Sleepy Head. You slept in till Three."

Elias: "Sorry Aria, I must've been extra tired from yesterday's training. Are the others back yet?"

Aria shook her head and said they will be soon. Elias looked out the window to see Kairos. Kairos was outside training. He was splitting boulders with his fist and kicking trees in half.

Elias: 'It's kind of insane how physically strong Kairos is. Especially since he doesn't have any magic'

Gabriel: 'Indeed Elias, it wasn't that uncommon when I was alive for humans to be this strong but, It seems unheard of in today's Humans'

A jiggle at the doorknob was heard and the front door opened. Lyra and Lorcan walked through the doorway. Lorcan had a sack laying over his shoulder and Lyra was carrying a box.

Lorcan: "Oh you're awake good."

Elias: "Yeah, did you and Lyra find anything out there?"

Lorcan "Yeah about that, we got good news and bad news."

Elias: "Hit me with the good news man."

Lorcan: "Well Lyra and I, we think, we found a camp. Looks like maybe 20 people or so."

Elias eyes widened for a moment.

Elias: "And the bad news?"

Lyra: "Let me get Kairos really quick. We should all hear this."

Lyra steps outside leaving the others inside.

Aria: "So what's in the bag Lorcan?"

Lorcan: "Oh it's a few rabbits. I figured I'd grab some dinner while I was out."

The door opened and Lyra and Kairos walked inside. Kairos went straight for a towel and something to drink.

Lorcan: "Alright, so bad news. The camp looked like it was bigger. A lot of buildings surrounding it are burnt to a crisp. On top of that we keep finding this sigil everywhere."

Kairos: "Let me see it. My mom used to date a guy heavily into Occult Crap. He showed me some shit about it."

Kairos grabbed the piece of wood with the sigil etched into it and began studied it.

Kairos: "It looks middle eastern, maybe Islamic? Hmm."

Kairos studied further before his eyes began widening. He suddenly tossed it out of a window into the air. The sigil exploded into a fiery mess turning a tree into a pile of ash.

Lorcan: "Holy Shit!"

Kairos: "Fucking Hell!"

Elias: "Dammit. Whatever left it, we got to stop it and help those people! It looks like the sigils are keeping them trapped in that small camp."

Lyra: "But why not just kill them like everyone else?"

Kairos: "Well, if we assume it's a military assault maybe a higher up told the rest to capture them? Like POWs."

They sat there letting the gravity of the situation set in.

Lorcan: "Alright tomorrow, Lyra, Elias, and I will go to that camp and attempt to get inside. Once we do, we can get more info on the situation. Kairos and Aria stay here."

Kairos: "What the Hell! I could be more useful with you all!"

Lorcan: "Too risky to leave just Aria here. What if something finds her?"

Kairos sits down in a slump. Aria pats him on the shoulder and gives him a smile to cheer him up.

Elias: "It's settled then, tomorrow we'll head out. I say we prepare now so we aren't scrambling tomorrow."

They all agreed and began getting ready. Later that night Elias got ready for bed. Gabriel decided to speak with him.

Gabriel: 'Is everything Alright Elias? It seems like you haven't been sleeping well.'

Elias: 'I've been having these nightmares ever since we soul binded.'

Gabriel: 'Nightmares?'

Elias: 'They're more like memories, I guess? I don't know they're just so fragmented but really familiar.'

Gabriel: 'Perhaps I'll try to peek at them while you sleep. You need to be in a proper headspace for tomorrow.'

Elias: 'I know, Thank you Gabriel.'
