Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Evelyn leaned against the carriage wall as she stared out the window, her face ached as she felt the tightness of her stitches.

She still wasn't used to only being able to see out of one eye, the other was too swollen to tell if she even still had it. However, it wasn't too promising they wouldn't know until the blood in her iris subsided.

Evelyn frown deeply the girl couldn't believe not only did her mentor dismiss her from being an apprentice under him, but her father sent her off to live with her great uncle.

The whole situation was sucky, she took a deep breath to calm her nerves her anger is what caused this mess in the first place.

Evelyn sighed as she closed her eyes and crossed her arms across her chest shifting her weight as she got comfortable. It was going to be a long ride anyway, Leonardo Bell lived far from any of the Clan's villages or even cities for the normal citizens.

She sighed softly as she let sleep take over her mind and body.

She was born into one of the main families of the Bell Clan a prodigy of sorts she was known for her quick mind and temper from a young age. Her older brother was also a gifted individual with his life magic developing at twelve he soon mastered it by the time he was thirteen. Evelyn, however, was an odd case.

An individual in the Bell Clan strictly has to have life magic, every human is born with it but to get to the point of power to actually use it is something your born with. One cannot simply work to awaken the power.

Very few people actually host any abilities from their life magic, but those in the Clan. Evelyn developed hers early, at nine years of age she developed her power. Most people developed theirs in their early to late teens. Only one person has ever been younger at developing than Evelyn.

It was a strange case; indeed, however they soon found her power was nothing special unlike her brother who could manipulate and manifest water, all she was able to pull off was wilting plants.

This confused most into thinking her power was based in the heat of her palms for whatever she touched that was plant like would fade into fog. But as she got old a Incident happened when she threw a tantrum. It was figured out her life magic took away life force of any plant, animal, person...

A scary thing to be wielded by a child especially when it was so strongly attached to her anger, so at age ten she gained a mentor who tried his best to teach her to control. She focused on her studies and her training as she grew. Evelyn was treated as something special, almost like the next big thing. Her ego and temper got wilder as she eventually became rebellious and at sixteen, she ignored her trainers warning and used her life magic in a spar with another student.

She lost control as it back lashed into her face, cutting her from her left ear across seemingly her left eye, dropping slightly at her nose and barely missing her right eye.

It was a nasty injury she was immediately rushed to the infirmary, where she was stitched and treated, her master having had enough of her disobedience disowned her as a student. Her father was furious as he could be, he sent her to go live with her great Uncle Leonardo Bell the third power in the clan.

She was less than thrilled, it meant she'd be under strict guidelines, and far from the main village getting in the way of her goal of finally going on missions for her clan. Leonardo was one of the Powers putting him in the top ranks of the clan despite his old age, but that meant nothing to her. After all she was going to out rank him one day, all she needed was training.

It was a couple more hours before Evelyn arrived at her uncle's estate, she stepped out of the carriage as the maids emptied her baggage out of it scurrying back into the house.

Her Uncle, a slightly wide bald man with a big grey beard and a large scar across his forehead was beside the carriage to greet her.

Evelyn observed the maids coldly before looking at Leonardo with a look of distrust.

"Uncle." She said plaining giving him a quick dip of respect as Leonardo nodded in approvement.

"I see you did a number on yourself." He commented as his pink gaze narrowed in observation gesturing her to follow

"So, it seems." Evelyn said as she wasn't much for chit chatting about her injury, but she followed a bit of a distant behind him keeping a straight face as she looked around, noticing what seemed to be an arena, not too far from the main house.

She would have to see if she would be allowed to train but, she had already had an earful from her father on the subject. She stared at the back of Leonardo's head as they walked down the hall in comfortable silence.

The home was huge something one would see in the main village, Evelyn's eyebrows scrunched together as she glanced at the various paintings on the wall.

Leonardo kept his hands behind his back as he walked humming a bit before he spoke.

"You will be staying in this room, the maids will come by later to clean your injury." He said stopping in his tracks and turning towards the girl.

Evelyn almost ran into him but she stopped abruptly sending a small glare towards him before she glanced at the large door to her room.

"I can tend to it myself." The girl said as she brushed past him and opened the door.

Walking into the room before slamming the door not giving the elder the chance to speak.

Leonardo sighed as he rubbed his temples looking at the door before he started his way down the hall.

"Well she's feisty isn't she?" Leonardo's apprentice appeared beside him with a crooked smile on his face. He was a tall boy with dark black hair and a set of hazel eyes a beauty mark neatly placed in the corner of his right eye by his nose, His clothes much like Leonardo's was formal he wore a red vest with a black back. White shirt with a deep red tie.

"She needs a good humbling is all." Leonardo said as he closed his eyes releasing a heavy sigh.

Aiden chuckled as he shrugged, looking down the hallway before back towards the older man.

"The clan needs feisty fighters don't you think?"

"No, cockiness in your abilities will fail you in the long run." Leonardo said blankly as he looked over at Aiden with a slight furrow in his brow.

"And if my memory serves me right, you supposed to be training right now."

Aiden gained an awkward smile as he quickly adverted his gaze.

"Must have slipped my mind..." Aiden said pursing his lips as he kept his gaze away from his master.

"Yes, must have... Well since you have so much free time, I figure it's about time you spar me again." Leonardo said as he paused and looked over at the young man quietly watching a look of fear cross his smile.

"Ah, no you don't have to go that far master. I don't want to trouble you after all." Aiden said putting his hands up shaking his head a visible sweat drop on his face.

"It's no trouble at all, in fact I'm curious how your growth in your training has been going." Leonardo said humming as he closed his eyes softly walking down the hallway as Aiden followed hot on his trail.

"Come on master surly you can just watch me train..."
