Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

Evelyn gritted her teeth as she heard footsteps towards the giant wooden door of the arena, yet her eyes stayed on the ground as she stared at the wooden blade.

Aiden looked towards the door hearing someone enter and immediately took a few steps back as Leonardo entered, the elder approached them. His aged hands held neatly behind him as he put a hand on Evelyn's shoulder.

Aiden knew he was in for it when Leonardo got done with Evelyn, so he was slowly inching towards the door as Leonardo started talking.

"My dear niece, he was right in what he said. Pushing yourself now will do no good, you must heal and rest."

Evelyn furrowed her brow as she looked into the man's face as she let the sword drop from her hand.

"But... What if... What if I've lost my sight? My eye, If I don't train now... I'll be behind."

"Evelyn, there is no rush. Everyone has their own pace; your progress does not define the worth you will have in the clan. Pushing yourself now, is a foolish thing to do. For there are worse outcomes, if you reinjure that." Leonardo said as he removed his hand from the girl's shoulder letting it rest behind his back as she took in his words.

She didn't like it, whatsoever as she listened but he made sense. She gruffed an annoyed sigh before brushing past him and leaving the Arena.

Aiden had just barely made it out when Leonardo's commanding tone made his heart sink as Evelyn briskly walked by him.

Aiden walked back into the arena with his head down in defeat as he looked up seeing Leonardo standing in the middle of the arena solemnly. Aiden's lips parted softly as he glanced at the fading figure of Evelyn behind him before he looked back to his master.

There was a long silence before Leonardo's pink eyes looked up to the sky, Aiden in turn looked up as he was lost in his own thoughts.

"How long were you watching? Master?" Aiden said in a soft voice

"Since you two left the house."

"Why didn't you stop her, I thought her father forbidden training for now?"

"She needed that, it was something neither you nor I could give."

 "And that is?"

 "Proof."

"Proof?" Aiden paused as he looked at Leonardo in confusion.

"Master, I'm not sure I understand."

"She saw for herself, her path to recovery will be challenging especially if she doesn't slow down." Leonardo said as he picked up the fallen wooden blade as he looked down his eyes studying the designs in the wood.

"She reminds me much of myself, when I was younger. The world to her feels like it goes too fast and she must keep up to make herself into anything of worth." Leonardo said as his free hand came up and stroked his beard.

"But it is simply not true, yes it takes time, skill, and training to carve out your destiny. However, you need to take it slow when you can, or you'll realize when you've grown old you through your whole life away on a chance to become something. That you missed the chance that was in front of you the whole time."

Aiden listened quietly to the man's words as he took it to heart, smiling softly as he thought to himself. Leonardo was a very sentimental in his wisdom, yet ironed fist in his training.

Leonardo cleared his throat as he looked up at Aiden his frown tight.

"Ahem, Anyway I do believe I told you to be at the training field at five sharp?"

A week past as the swelling in Evelyn's face died down her eye was able to somewhat be seen, Leonardo had a doctor come take a look as Evely sat in a chair in the lavash living room.

The doctor loomed above her as he used his fingers to lift her puffy eyelid taking a look at the cloudy eye, a grim expression on his face as he asked her to look from side to side. However she felt like she knew the outcome already, she couldnt see out of it after all.

"So?" Leonardo said as he stood close by his arms neatly behind his back.

"Well, there is a lot of trauma to the actual eye. A nice slit across her pupil." He noted as he went to check the healing towards the rest of the injury.

"Cut to the chase, will I... Ever be able to see out of it again?" Evelyn said in a bit of a pissy tone as the doctor kept off the subject.

"Well, it's hard to tell. Some people get a little sight back from an injury like this, some... Don't." He said as he leaned towards the table getting tweezers and a pair of tiny metal clippers.

"My chances?" Evelyn said as she turned her face to give him better access to her cut as he clipped on of the stitches that had already popped open, there wasn't much loose skin on the face to work with so it was hard to keep stitches.

"...Not very decent, I'd say 30% but that's not with your whole sight." He mentioned as he pulled at the stitch gently, out of the skin as he hummed.

Evelyns eyebrows scrunched together as she looked down at the wooden floor as she was deep in thought.

After Leonardo showed the doctor out, Evelyn stood to her feet as she left the room walking down the hall as she tucked her hands into the pockets of her pants as she kept her head down.

She took the turn that led her to the back door as she left the house walking past the arena and up the large green hill. Evelyn found the old well as she silently leaned her back against it before she slid down its side and sat. The sun was warm against her face as it shown amongst the fluffy white clouds.

Evelyn was silent for a long, long time as she took in the information, her life would change. Because of her mistake, her lips trembled as she brought her knee's up to her chest.
