Chapter 34 - Missed Opportunity

Dimitri had to get out of that room before he said something he would regret. He walked to the towers climbing the stairs as fast as he could. She was mated and to an Alpha Heir no less. He had hoped to make a match with her himself having felt something for her since they were young, but she always seemed to be to busy. He planned to go visit her in a month to see if she would be his destined match.

When he seen her on that whipping bench his brother just about to tear into her he felt his dragon rush to the front ready to kill. His rage almost took control, but when she spoke in a whisper that voice had him hypnotized. She told him what to do and he did exactly that. He should have known in that instant she was his mate, but she was so battered he didn't want to think that way. He only wanted her to get treated and heal.

Now all he wanted to do was fly to the Werewolf kingdom and kill Max. He couldn't believe he wasted his chance to have her completely. *F*ck! I should have went sooner. Now I have to compete with a some Alpha wolf.* Dimitri thought holding the railing of the balcony he currently stood on. For years now the only woman he thought of was her. At first he thought it was because she was an ideal woman who could take care of herself and not be afraid of a little danger.

He has to fight for his place as crown prince and would need some one of her caliber to help him win his people and the noble family of his Clan. While the other families had sent their candidates for him to assess and choose from none of them even measured up to Lily. The only one close to her was Trinee and she was of common blood and no one would accept that which would make her life hell.

No, he knew it had to be Lily ever since he followed her to the secret garden only a handful of dragon nobles knew of. After he let her go from the village attack several years ago he followed her to see if what she said was true. For all he new she simply stole that research to use as a cover story to steal something. As she made her way up the mountain she veered off the normal path going through some dense forest that had potential monsters that could kill her.

Staying a good distance behind so she wouldn't attack him as she kept going to the secret garden almost like she had been told where to go. When she reached the flat side of a cliff she went about looking for something along the wall. Pulling out what might have been a key Dimitri rushed out stopping her from putting it in a hole shouting, "Wait! How do you know of this place? Outsiders are strictly forbidden."

Lily turned to face him an annoyed look on her face, "The only reason I didn't stop you before I veered off the trail was because I thought you'd give up and head back to your soldiers. I've been hoest with you telling you why I'm here. What do you think I'm going to do? You seen my research." She was right he had read some of her research knowing the plant she was looking for could be the same one he is trying to protect and the very one that's hidden behind the door she was trying to open.

"Follow me. There is a safer way to go. Trespassers go this way," Dimitri said as Lily hid the key away following him. They followed the cliff face again until they ran into some heavy brush on the other side. Dimitri reached back pulling her onto his back, "Hold on tight." He said as he leapt 40 ft up the cliff then again until he was at the top. The air in her lungs rushed out with the first jump, but she braced her self for the second and third jump. When they landed at the top he looked a little to pleased with himself with bouncing her around.

"You could have warned me! F*cking crazy ass dragon," Lily grumbled then looked up to see where he had taken her. It was in fact the garden she had been looking for. She went about trying to find the Moon Star flower that had been planted there a few centuries back by one of the wolf descendants that was married off here. It had the power to reveal ones wolf or strengthen ones wolf and can heal any injury. Unfortunately they were to late as it was already in bloom and though quite brillant its leaves were starting to wilt.

"NO, no no. I had hope to get here before it bloomed! Now I'll have to wait again," Lily said disappointed. Dimitri looked around to see if there were anymore flowers that hadn't bloomed, but they're weren't any. Her shoulder slumped forward dejected about her lost time to study the flower. She had hoped to get a couple of petals too.

He walked up to her kneeling down looking at the flower. "Is there anything we can do? Did you have to be here to see it bloom?" he asked wanting to understand. She looked to him leaning her head on his shoulder saying, "Yeah, when it blooms fully a spark of light is supposed to shoot up to the full moon, but it can go to a wolf in need if one is near by."

He didn't push her away as she leaned on him while she stared at the flower its brilliance shining still in the full moons light. She felt nice being this close to him, and Dimitri usually wasn't attracted to many females. She turned to look at him not realizing just how close their faces were and for just a moment she felt the world fall away as this man's mesmerizing eyes had her entranced wanting to fall into them.

Dimitri had the urge to lean down to kiss her, his lips brushing against hers less then a breath away. Realizing what he was doing he tuned his head the other way leaning forward. "I'm sorry I doubted you. I have to go," he said moving to the dense shrubs again trying to leave.

Lily got up confused wanting to confront him, but when she made it past the bushes to the cliff all she seen was a beautiful sapphire blue dragon flying off into the distance.
