Chapter 18 - -Artifacts-

"Go!"

It wasn't known who said it first, but their voices synced.

Instantly dashing towards where the clash reverberated from.-

Where else.

Facing the Zombified Beetle, Raylen steadfastly rolled to the side, uncaring of the pile of debris while almost missing his head.

The next instance, something moved swiftly and cleaved the huge debris behind where he previously stood.

Bang!

There was a short bang as the malicious Zombie Beetle brought back its left tibia, releasing a horrid low screech as it gnawed back pieces of jagged human heads that wanted to force their way out of its mouth.

Whilst, Raylen shuddered, feeling wretched disgust and misgivings at the zombie heads inside the insidious Creature.

Fitting the long spear back in his palm, he stilled his resolve, resolution showing in his green eyes as he watched the dead living creature flex its two sticking tibia towards him.

"Look here bastard!"

Suddenly a loud voice came from behind, filled with taunt and unhidden contempt for the Zombie Beetle.

Answering to the taunt behind it, the Beetle used its human hands to turn.

Releasing another screech, as a horrid green red slime drooled down its mandibles.

Throwing a slight nod at his twin brother, Ryker grind. Uncaring of his tattered clothes like he would have always done, and instead tightened his grip around the dented big hammer.

"Screech!" scurrying towards the human youth, the Beetle screeched as it leaped forward.

'Damn this is insane.' This time Flynn couldn't be bothered to express his annoyance at the ebony skinned girl's strange Will. Instead he seemed intensely focused on the battle between the both twins and the grotesque looking zombie Beetle which had bloodied human arms for limbs popping out where its middle tibia should have been.

And even more agitating was its human legs for hinds that looked battered, broken and with bleeding bruises.

Soon, without doubt. The two twins would lose their lives the longer the battle went on. Running out of stamina or breaking under the raw brute strength from the Beetle's front tibia.

The Beetle was practically an undead, even the humans it had once eaten seemed not to be so dead and were struggling to crawl their way out of its mandibles in form of Zombie.

There was also the aspect of the Beetle's carapace which served as an almost unbreakable defense.

'Honestly, aren't you surprised?'

'They look the same age as us, yet they've got a weapon and are battling a Peak Vile Creature in this gods-forsaken place.'

"They are winning." Sushing the voice in his head, Flynn muttered as he stared at the battling duo. And at the same moment one of the twins happened to stab his spear right [neck of the beetle] Pushing forward with insanity and managed to tilt the Beetle to its back.

And without respite, a bang followed, directing the spear deeper and managing to chop off its head.

The human arms it had for limbs were already shattered and broken till there was no bone in them, disabling the Beetle most of its support and unable to tilt back.

"Scree-" its agitating screech was cut short as a mixed red and green liquid squirmed out of its severed neck. That even from such a distance, Flynn could sense the dissipating Malice coming from it.

Then, in the midst of the relieved silence, before the two human figures could check on the dead Beetle…

"Nice" a cool remark rang off in the distance, another edge of the debris filled Great Hall-. Not only making the Twins turn back, but also alerting Flynn and his companion who still remained hidden.

There, Alex looking all cold with a rather calm despondent was like a whole new person than they parted with 20 minutes ago, or was it 30?

Even more, he seemed to have chanced upon a fortuitous encounter and now had an old unadorned Japanese blade known as Katana in his hand. While leading the duo of the pompous looking girl and white haired boy.

'We… are… damned.'

'Is that an Artifact?'

Despite not wanting to hear it, he heard it. Amelia's loud exclamation and curse, in his mind.

This time unable to silence his surprise, his pupils dilated, instantly realizing how grave of a situation he was and the dire power Artifacts were said to possess.

After the Reckoning, with Tia polluting Earth's atmosphere and the manifestation of Diabolical Creatures through Historical Artifacts, came the transformation of Artifacts alongside Bearers.

It started off with a few Bearers joining hands to take down a Vile Creature which had just manifested to discover an old Dagger swirling with red wisp, a visible form of Tia within its corpse.

Instantly mystified, one of them couldn't hold back and held it, only to turn into a Hollow.

His Will devoured, and became something akin to a wild beast. Grabbing the dagger, he was able to take down two of their companions with swiftness. Laying waste to their lives and letting the World witness the power of an activated Artifact for the first time…

The rest of the story went on without telling who exactly witnessed all these to tell the tale or killed the Hollow. But yet, for both Bearers and Normal Humans alike, an Artifact was something that would attract even King Bearers.

Nowadays Artifacts were rare, and more less were Creatures who could bore them.

After having hunted Diabolical Creatures for more than two hundred and fifty years since the Reckoning, Bearers who had most Artifacts perished with them and forever lost from the World.

Now Artifacts were family treasures that would make brothers kill each other for it.

About Supreme Relics, the only way said to get them was slaying a Cursed Creature.

Whilst, the hammer and spear wielded by the Twins were known as Stellar Armament or Weapons, formed from Humanity's Advanced Technology crafted from Creatures.
