Chapter 31 - Top Brass

Riley's second goal and third for Dortmund really took the sting out of the Stuttgart players. The match resumed at 3-0, Stuttgart playing safe now. Mike, seeing the game going nowhere felt his team has done enough and he was planning on making substitutions. Just before he could tell the reserve players to go warmup, a member of his staff reached him and whispered something in his ear. 'So they want him to play the whole 90?' Mike thought.

The game continued and both teams had made their substitutions. Riley was still on the field. 87th minute of the game, Vasco decided to drive with the ball. A powerful run it was and Stuttgart central midfielder decided to take him out. He slid and fouled Vasco, the ref blew the whistle signaling for a free kick. The Stuttgart player received a yellow card.

Riley wanted to take the free kick since he trusted himself to at least make the keeper save it and keep it on target. As he was about to join the cluster of players waiting for the ball, Michel beckoned him to come over to the free kick committee. Riley jogged over and Michel handed him the ball without saying anything. Riley looked him and thanked him silently for the trust.

The free kick was a bit further than Riley had initially thought. That changed his plans significantly, as he took a step back he locked eyes with August. Riley smiled lightly when he saw his friend looking at him with a pleading look.

The whistle blew, and Riley struck the ball smoothly as it floated over the player's curling towards goal. The ball was aimed at August, the tall centre backs were taken out of the game by that ball. August connected with the ball as he dove for it.

"Goooooooooooooal, August O'Brian at it again!" The commentator went crazy. The bench and the stands were no exceptions, they also lost their minds due to that goal.

The match continued for a few more minutes and came to an end. The referee almost hurrying up to blow as to save Stuttgart from further embarrassment. Dortmund celebrated and both set of players shook hands with each other. Riley came face to face with the Stuttgart defensive midfielder as they shook hands, "Good game man. You really whooped us out there." The DM said. "Thanks, it wasn't easy. You made it hard." Riley responded. "Uh… can we swap jerseys?" He asked embarrassed. "Sure" Riley replied and took off his jersey.

They exchanged jerseys and the guy left, Riley kept staring at him until Coach Mike pulled him out of his trance. "What are you looking at?" Mike asked, Riley looked at Mike and said seriously, "Coach, in this game I would have been more effective. That guy, he is good. He shut me out. Stuttgart is lucky to have him." Coach Mike looked at the player's retreating figure, 'Is that so?' Mike thought, no one knew what he was thinking.

VIP room in the training facility.

"The boy is really good. I think it's time we take him seriously before other clubs come circling around." A middle aged man with blond hair said.

"Exactly, I saw a couple of scouts in the stands. The audacity of Bayern scouting our players again. Do they think we are their middle man for talented players?" Another middle aged man said angrily.

The door suddenly opened and the middle aged man who was in the stands respectful greeted and sat opposite the men in the room. "Sirs, that has been what I wanted to talk to you about. As the senior team's assistant manager. Me and Edin Terzić had hoped to fast track him. As soon as he turns 15, he will be promoted to train with the first team and might join us for the pre-season tour for next season." The first team assistant manager said.

"So that's it? The boy shows that much promise? Okay then, let's get him on a contract to ward of the sharks." The Borussia Dortmund CEO said.
