Due to nervousness, Avery Wells' mind went blank. She instinctively moved, wanting to escape from the operating table. However, her family's situation constantly reminded her, causing her to retract her limbs and clench her hands tighter, afraid to take any further action. Ethan Blackwood noticed her subtle reaction, and moved his thumb up to stroke her cheek.
"Are you afraid of me?" His voice was low, and the warmth of his fingertips was scorching, making her feel as if his strength had a strong attachment, as if he could see another person through her.
She responded to him, "No"
"Do you know what happened to the women who were afraid of me before?" He leaned closer to her, and his warm and ambiguous breath sprayed onto her face, forming a sharp contrast with the icy coldness in his eyes.
"I... I'm not afraid." She had nowhere to retreat now. Even though they were almost face to face, and even though her eyes were covered by a black veil, his gaze made her feel inexplicably possessive.
Ethan Blackwood rolled up her clothes and saw a not-so-short scar on her lower abdomen. It was somewhat shocking on her fair skin. He gently rubbed his thumb over it and asked, "How did you get this scar ? "
She answered in a panic, "I had a tumor before and had surgery."
She could clearly feel the warmth and roughness of his palm, as if he was about to possess her in the next second. She was very confused and clenched her fists, wanting to escape.
"Uncle Ethan, can we use a test tube?" Uncle Ethan? Hmm. His deep and penetrating gaze exuded a hint of aggressiveness, while his lips curled into a lazy smile.
Without answering her, he asked, "Is this your first time?"
She wanted to escape from this terrifying man. She would find another way to deal with the vacancy in her family She lied, "No, I've had a boyfriend before and even had an abortion." She hoped this would stop his advances.
Sure enough, he withdrew his hand and moved away from her, creating some distance between them. The suffocating pressure that had overwhelmed her dissipated, leaving only a faint scent of sandalwood, causing her heart to beat uncontrollably.
Suddenly, Ethan Blackwood's voice became indifferent, "You can leave now."
Avery Wells breathed a sigh of relief, her cheeks still red. She didn't linger and got up to leave Ethan Blackwood stood not far away, looking down at her, waiting for her next reaction.
She should have known about the rumors surrounding him. He probably thought she would cry and beg him to spare her family, or run out like those other women, crazy with fear.
But she didn't. She lay quietly on the bed for three seconds, retaining the innocence and beauty she had when she first entered. The only thing that gave her away were her tightly clenched hands.
Then someone helped her off the bed and escorted her out. When she reached the door, Avery Wells paused, "Uncle Ethan, goodbye." She hoped her obedience would spare the Wells family from disaster.
Then she walked out the door and left.
Ethan Blackwood withdrew his gaze and looked down at his expensive watch. A natural coldness overflowed from his eyes, with a hint of aggression as he said, "Avery Wells..."
His assistant, Julian, walked in and respectfully nodded, "Mr. Blackwood, are you dissatisfied with that woman? Should we take action against the Wells family?"
"Leave her for now."
Julian was surprised and tentatively said, "What about Miss Julie and Emily..." Before he could finish his sentence, he was silenced by Ethan Blackwood's cold expression.
