Chapter 6 - CHAPTER 6

Avery Wells clenched the blanket tightly with both hands and slowly sat up. Her forehead still hurt, and she asked hesitantly, "Are you Ethan Blackwood?" Ethan Blackwood raised an eyebrow. "You called me 'Uncle' earlier." Avery quickly corrected herself, realizing he looked only in his twenties. "Ethan, brother." Ethan Blackwood leaned back on the sofa. In the darkness, she looked nervous, but her eyes were clear and bright in the moonlight. He raised an eyebrow. "Avery." "Mm." Ethan Blackwood's eyes, like star stones, narrowed slightly. "Do you know why I brought you back?" Avery shook her head, her heart pounding. "I don't know." For a long time, she heard no response, and her heart trembled. After a while, she asked, "How are my parents? You didn't do anything to them, did you?" No matter what, they were still her parents. Although she was disappointed with them this time, she didn't want anything to happen to them. "They handed you over to me." Avery's heart sank instantly. She should have known that her parents didn't want trouble and would treat her like an object to be thrown away. But she didn't expect them to be so decisive. She clutched the blanket tightly, not knowing why he brought her home, but he had saved her. Based on what she knew about her father, she would have been beaten half to death in the afternoon. With a sound, he turned on the room light. The sudden brightness was dazzling, and she covered her eyes with her hands. After a moment, she looked at him. When she touched his face, she was so scared that she almost fainted. Ethan Blackwood had taken off his mask at some point, revealing a scar that ran from his right forehead to his cheek, stitched up like a centipede's scar, and several other scars that protruded from his skin, crisscrossing each other in a terrifyingly grotesque manner. If his left face was that of an angel, then his right face was that of a demon. His pitch-black, bright pupils stared at her without blinking, like an eagle looking down at its prey. She had seen him in the daytime, with his imposing presence, but suddenly seeing his true face was too sudden and unexpected... She had never seen a face with so many scars before, and subconsciously felt afraid. She couldn't help but shrink back, looking at him with fear and confusion. Ethan Blackwood took in all of her emotions with his eyes, and his expression gradually turned cold. He stood up and approached her. She was backed up against the wall, with nowhere to go. Ethan Blackwood grabbed her chin and asked, "Are you scared?" This time, Avery couldn't force herself to stay calm anymore. She nodded, her voice trembling, "Mm..." Ethan Blackwood's cold gaze pierced her clear, fearful eyes. He reached out and pressed down on her lips, causing her eyes to mist up with pain. His warm fingertips lingered between her eyebrows and eyes. His voice was so low that it was almost hoarse, "You've dirtied this face for no reason." She didn't understand what he meant by those words, but Ethan Blackwood had already lost interest and turned to leave. After closing the door, he turned to the butler waiting outside and said, "Uncle Quinn, please escort her back to the Wells family." Uncle Quinn was taken aback. When the young master brought her back in the afternoon, he was very considerate. How could things change so quickly? He asked cautiously, "Do we need to pay the school fees again?" Previously, Avery had been expelled from school by her parents and was instructed by Mr. Blackwood to pay the fees again. Glancing at him, Ethan Blackwood's voice was cold and stern, "Is my meaning difficult to understand?" Uncle Quinn nodded quickly, "No, I understand what to do." It was simple - from now on, Avery had nothing to do with Mr. Blackwood. Ethan Blackwood turned and walked downstairs. Just as he reached the middle of the stairs, he heard a flurry of footsteps. Avery came running up, followed by her slightly anxious voice, "Ethan, brother."
