Chapter 7 - CHAPTER 7

Ethan Blackwood's back stiffened slightly as the voice brought back memories that had been long forgotten. He turned around and saw Avery Wells looking at him with her beautiful watery eyes shining in the light. Her cheeks, the size of a palm, were red and rosy from his earlier teasing, but still delicate and charming. Her gaze was both cautious and serious. Seeing his indifferent expression, Quinn stepped back. Avery gathered her courage and ran a few steps towards him, down the stairs, and stood one step above him. "Brother Ethan, I'm sorry," she said sincerely. Ethan Blackwood didn't say anything, just looked at her coldly "I was scared when I first met you, but I won't be anymore. I'll overcome it," Avery said. Her sudden confession surprised him. Avery was petite, or rather, she seemed very small in front of him. Even standing one step above him, she still had to look up at him. Ethan Blackwood narrowed his eyes and noticed that she had run out without putting on her shoes. Her feet were small and round, with a pinkish hue, and she looked like she wore a size 35 shoe. She was beautiful and cute, but perhaps a bit too delicate. His sexy Adam's apple tightened unconsciously, and his eyes darkened slightly. "When I was a child, I fell and cut my arm on a stone. It bled a lot, and my grandparents took me to a clinic to get it treated. It healed without leaving a scar. Don't feel inferior. I'll take you to see a doctor, and it will definitely be cured. No one will ever call you an ugly duckling again. Even if it can't be cured, you're still much more handsome than others," Avery said. Ethan Blackwood was taken aback. Inferiority? A warm feeling rose inexplicably in her heart, gradually spreading and expanding. She had taken his angry departure as a sign of her own inferiority. Avery intertwined her fingers, feeling very self-blaming. Just now, after she was frightened, he suddenly seemed a little off, and then turned and left. In the outside world, so many voices were saying that he was an ugly monster, and he should... already feel inferior. Today, he had saved her, and she was actually afraid of his face, which was really not right. She admitted that she was indeed afraid of him, but she also didn't want to hurt his self-esteem. She carefully said, "Brother Ethan, you must not be unhappy. You are actually very handsome." Ethan Blackwood narrowed his eyes, his low voice somewhat intriguing, "Is that so?" Seeing him respond, Avery quickly nodded, "Yes, your eyebrows are very handsome, your nose and eyes are very handsome, everything is handsome. Many people, even if they don't have scars on their faces, are not as handsome as you." She used several "handsome" in a row, as if trying to prove that she was not lying. "Is that the only adjective you know?" Avery looked at him in confusion, unable to discern his meaning. Unexpectedly, the man directly picked up her in a princess carry, and his low voice did not reveal any emotion, "Remember to wear shoes in the future, the floor is cold." She was a little dazed, "Oh." He said again, "There's one more thing." Avery was puzzled, but she was surprised that she didn't resist his approach and nodded in confusion. "Don't call me that again in the future." She thought about it, and she only called him Brother Ethan, not understanding why she couldn't address him that way. "Then what should I call you?" He looked at her meaningfully, "You'll know tomorrow." Why wait until tomorrow? Avery buried her head, her soft arms unconsciously wrapped around the man's neck, and although she was doubtful, she didn't speak anymore. What would happen tomorrow, she dared not think. Her parents threw her away like garbage for the sake of the family, completely leaving her to the man in front of her to dispose of. To put it bluntly, she could only be at the mercy of others now. Ethan Blackwood carried Avery back to the bedroom, like an emotionless robot, mechanically placing the person in his arms down before turning and leaving. Watching Ethan Blackwood's departing figure, Avery couldn't help but be a little stunned, her watery eyes flickering, "Um..." The man stopped in his tracks, stiffened his shoulders, turned his eyebrows and eyes, and spoke in a tone that was neither cold nor warm.
