Ivonne's POV
"Mother," I started in a calm voice. "This is Tobias."
"Tobias, my mother who'm you've met already," I introduced in a small smile as I recalled all he had done for me, for her.
"We've met?" Mother inquired, pointing her index finger on her chest.
"Yes we have," Tobias affirmed. "You were too sick to notice me."
"Okay," Mother nodded, curiosity written all over her face. "A pleasure to meet you Tobias."
"It's nice to see you happy and healthy Mrs Reign," he murmured in a charming tone which made me widen my eyes in surprise and mother flush a little, her wary expression softening a bit.
"You are a charming young man," she giggled and my eyes widened further. 'Mother? Giggle?' I asked in my head.
'My good looks never disappoints,' Tobias answered through the mind link, prompting me to turn sharply in his path as I once again forgot about the mind-link.
It had been long Lincoln and I stopped communicating through the link before our fallout and divorce. Therefore I was so used to having my thoughts to myself that it's taking longer than normal to get adjusted to Tobias's free access.
'Get out of my head,' I whined, sending him a glare as I tried to prevent the scowl that threatened to take over my expression so Mother wouldn't notice.
'Make me,' he mocked and I scoffed.
"I'm guessing my son-in-law Lincoln sent you?" Mother quizzed in a light-hearted manner, having no idea about the bad blood between the two men.
"Haha," I let out a sinister laugh, the color draining from my face as I watched Tobias reaction.
Thankfully there was none, only a tick in his jaw showed his rage, however his expression remained neutral and to my amazement he smiled at Mother.
"Why didn't he show up himself?" She interrogated, sending me an inquisitive glance. "When you didn't bring him the last time I expected to see him when next you came, however like before he isn't here."
"Mother," I called, formulating the best way to present her with the truth.
"Is he too busy with Alpha duties or something?" She continued as if she didn't hear me.
"He sure is busy alright," Tobias muttered under his breath. His voice was too low that if I wasn't seated close to him, my supernatural ears wouldn't have picked up on a single word.
"Brought another woman into his home and disrespected his mate and, FUCK!"
I shot daggers at him through my eyes, silently telling him to 'shut up' after he screamed the curseword the moment I stepped hard on his foot.
"What happened?" Mother asked, surprised at his utterance." "Nothing Mother," I assured and beamed at her.
"Can someone please answer my question about Lincoln?" Mother queried after we didn't give her an answer for the thousandth time.
"I don't know how to say this Mother," I began, my gaze briefly darting to Tobias for help or courage or anything to just make me say it.
He understood as his hand holding mine gave it a squeeze and he gawked at Mother with a very serious expression. "Lincoln would not be coming Mrs Reign."
"What?" She quizzed in a loud tone. "What do you mean? Did anything happen to Lincoln? What's going on?"
"Lincoln is fine Mother," I informed, the thought of he and Allison and the shame they caused me, provoked me to wince at the image I recalled.
"Then why wouldn't he come?" She investigated, her brown eyes focused again on Tobias and I's intertwined fingers. "And why are you two holding hands like lovers when you have a mate and a husband is an Alpha of a pack?"
"We are no longer together Mother," I revealed the truth I had been keeping from her, having no other way than to be plain about it.
"Did you cheat on him?" She inquired and I clenched my teeth, a bit annoyed by her question but Tobias reached out his thumb to rub the skin of my hand in a bid to calm me down.
"He brought another woman into the pack house Mrs Reign," Tobias explained while I shut my lids for some seconds.
"He did what?" She raised a question, her lips thining in a scowl.
"Yes Mother, her name is Allison," I filled her in. "It was a total disrespect to me as his mate, wife and Luna."
"Did the pack members and elders know about this?" She interrogated, eyes narrowing into slits, a sign that indicated she was pissed. A warmness spread through me at the joy of seeing her getting slowly back to herself.
"They did but none could lift a damn finger," Tobias growled and it was my turn to calm him down as I rested my free hand over his and tapped lightly.
"We got divorced a few months ago," I announced and lifted my hand and Tobias's up for her to see. "I'm married to him now."
"What about your Luna title?" She implored, her eyes almost falling out of their sockets at my revelation.
"It's still intact," Tobias informed her in a smirk.
"How?" She quizzed not getting his drift.
"He is an Alpha mother," I told. "The Alpha of the Moon pack."
^^^^^^^
"Mmmmm," I moaned in delight at the amazing taste that graced my tastebuds as the ice melted on my tongue.
"You love it?" Tobias questioned, eying me as he scooped a spoonful of his vanilla ice cream into his mouth.
"Of course," I blurted enthusiastically, and sniffed, my nose still a bit runny after the waterworks that poured out of me earlier.
After I had told Mother the truth, she asked me to give her a full detailed explanation which I did. I even informed her of how Tobias had helped out a lot and was the reason she was getting better after Lincoln had abandoned us.
I didn't hid anything from her. After my father died we only had each other and we swore to always be truthful to ourselves and not keep any secrets. Things got emotional along the way and the waterworks came after.
Tobias had to give us space by leaving us in the room to have a quiet mother and daughter time. For the first time in a long while, I felt a mother's touch and it was all Tobias's doing. If he hadn't agreed to step in and help after I had pleaded with him, I wondered how everything would have ended up, where I would have been, what would have happened to my mother.
Mother had called him in after and a few laughs were shared before it was time for Mother's nap and we had to leave as she needed enough rest to recuperate.
We had drove out of the hospital premises and I was surprised when we stopped at an ice-cream place. I asked him why but he only shrugged his shoulders without giving me an answer. However deep down I knew why and the thought of it warmed my heart.
"How the fuck does mint ice-cream taste?" Tobias questioned, his blue eyes fixated on me as I continued to scoop the ice-cream into my mouth.
"It tastes weird honestly," I confessed. "But it gives you that different feeling that comes with the taste."
"I honestly have no idea about what you are saying," he frowned, trying to process my statement.
"You wouldn't," I scoffed. "Enjoy your boring Vanilla then."
