Chapter 50 - Chapter 50

Ivonne's POV

Tobias was returning the next day and I couldn't understand how excited and happy I was feeling. In the few months we had been together it was totally crazy how well I had gotten comfortable with his presence.

Even to the point where I missed him in his absence. My feelings toward him had softened and I found myself relying on him as time went on. He was such a strong and stern figure anyone would love to have.

It all made sense why his people loved him regardless of how severe and brutal he was foretold to be. However that side of him was a part I hadn't had a pleasure of meeting yet.

Dusk had settled in and the night insects creaked in the distance. The song summertime by Benjackson Troy was playing through my phone's speaker.

I was the only one in the house except for the guards who were stationed outside. I had sent Lora and Annalise on a last minute errand. Janetta was close by attending to the flowers while I was in the kitchen.

Dressed in only a pair of black loose fitting shorts and a blue crop top, I moved to the tune and lyrics of the music as I seasoned the chicken.

It was a Friday and I was planning to make a delicious tomato sauce with chicken and white spicy rice. The chicken was going to be steamed with all the seasoning and fried in the morning or whenever I was free.

Despite it being a Saturday, without the Alpha present I had things to attend to and look over as the Luna and next in command. Thankfully aside from the minor disputes and issues with properties I needed to look over there wasn't any problem.

I was worried at his absence because of the previous rogue sighting. Gratefully it was all calm within the pack and around as no news had reached us concerning any rogues in the area.

'Shhh, don't jinx it,' Ria cautioned in my head and I chuckled at her superstition.

'Don't fret Ria,' I said in reply, trying to assure her. 'We would have gotten a heads up earlier if any of such was hovering around.'

'Allow me to fret Ivonne,' Ria scoffed and I shook my head as if talking to a real person before returning my attention back to the task at hand.

The sound of hurried footsteps reached my ears as I faced the chicken. Seconds later I heard the sound of the entrance door shoved open and banged after.

Inhaling a deep breath, I pulled off the hand gloves I had on and whirled to face kitchen door just in time for Lora and Annalise to appear there, breathless and eyes wide.

"What the fuck is going on you two?" I raised a question, my head tilted to the side as I peered at them in exasperation and a hint of curiosity.

Before they could answer, the back doorknob rattled and shook prompting me to wonder who it was until it clicked. Taking steps toward it, Lora and Annalise yelled out a loud "No!"

"What?" I almost yelled, my palm flying to my chest at the abruptness of their utterance.

"Don't open it," they advised, hands stretched my way, eyes pleading. A frown took over my features as I sensed a hint of panic emmiting from their forms. "Please."

"Why?" I asked, already tired of all my questions going unanswered. The knob rattled again and a knock followed the action.

"Don't Luna, it's not safe," Lora said, coming forward in her jean shorts and a black vest, her erratic heartbeat reaching my ears.

"What the fuck do you mean?" I interrogated after which ignoring her as I strolled toward the barrier. "It's only Janetta. She was tending to flowers back there."

"She could not be the one," Annalise blurted, tone sounding rushed and shaky as her eyes pointed at me.

"Then who else could it be?" I questioned with a roll of my eyes, not sure of whatever prank or game they were playing.

"It's just that what if—" Lora's statement got cut of by louder knock sounds and I quickly unlocked the door, pulling it inwards instantly.

Janetta jumped inside the kitchen in a panic, her breath coming out in short panths and her eyes teary.

"Okay can someone tell me what the fuck is happening?" I was currently loosing my patience as the curiosity and a hint of worry pricked my bones and my previously calm resolve.

"Let's shut the door first," Janetta managed to say and dragged her body to push the barrier back in its place and locked it, turning around to rest her back on it and to my surprise, she slide to the floor in a sitting position.

"Do I have to drill the answer out of you three or something?" I quizzed, my brown eyes shooting daggers at their forms.

"I give you till I count to ten and I swear if none of you gives me a reasonable answer to the cause of this shenanigans I'll have to punish you in some way," I murmured in a stern tone.

Not liking the fact I threatened them however it seemed necessary because I needed to know what exactly was happening. "Lora? Annal—"

The song on my phone paused calling my attention to it as I had momentarily forgotten I was vibing to some music just a few minutes prior.

As I was about to stroll to grab it, my ringtone came on and I turned to my audience, a finger raised in the air and hurried to snatch up the device. Excitedly I glanced at the screen in the hopes it was coming from Tobias, rather it was from his Beta Jarvis.

"Hello Jarvis," I connected the call and placed the device on my ear. "What's the matter at this hour."

"Where are you Luna?" He went straight to ask and my brows furrowed in wonder at his immediate question. "Luna? Luna? Are you there? Luna?"

"I'm here Jarvis I'm here," I murmured in repeat, not missing the difference in his usually calm and collected voice. "What's up? What's going on?"

"Are you home?" He implored and I nodded until I recalled he wasn't in the house to see me. "Yes I am," I affirmed.

"Please stay indoors Luna and don't you for any reason step out of the house," he declared all of a sudden and I was taken aback.

"What?" I clamored at the question, completely tired of everyone around me beating about the bush. Something was definitely up and I needed to find out what exactly it was and fast.

"Please adhere to it Luna," he pleaded, already knowing I was going to protest. "The Alpha gave me strict orders about what to do if this situation ever came up while he is away for his business trip."

"And what exactly is this situation you are talking about Jarvis," I growled, Ria getting restless in my head.

"The Alpha said to keep you in the dark if you have no idea what's going on," Jarvis revealed and my jaw clenched.

"Well the all powerful Alpha is not here," I gritted out, worry and irritation flowing through my veins. "And as your damn Luna I demand to know what in heaven's name is happening. Screw Tobias and his fucking orders."

The eyes of the girls in the room with me widened as Jarvis grew quiet on the other side of the line. He inhaled a deep breath and I waited for him to say it.

"We are under attack Luna," he exhaled. "By rogues."
