Ivonne's POV
"Yeah, push it inward Lora," Tobias directed as he stood in a black long-sleeved shirt made by a popular designer, well ironed red slacks underneath. His hair pushed back in their usual rough style which I had come to like.
"It's okay there," I advised Lora as she stationed the large boquet of flowers without getting rid of its leaves or breaking the branches. "Thank you Lora."
"You are welcome Luna," she beamed and took a step back from the rangerover so Tobias could shut the boot. "Are you you don't need me to accompany you and attend to your needs if any."
"Don't worry Lora," I assured and curled my lips as my stare shifted to Tobias. "I have him with me to attend to my needs."
Lora simply retreated at that while Tobias lifted a brow at my utterance and I shrugged, chuckling quietly as I blocked him out of my mind when I noticed his attempt to invade my thoughts.
"It has gotten to that hmm?" he implored in protest while I continued to let out fits of giggles.
"Come on it's almost noon," I said to him as I arrived at the passenger door and pulled it ajar to climb in. My attire of black pumps and a butterfly styled floor-length blue dress making it easier for me.
"Your audacity these days make me wonder a lot," he murmured something on the lines of that. It was a tad confusing nonetheless I didn't bother to interpret what he meant.
"It still surprises me that you decided to drive," I mumbled as he started the engine and did the necessary procedures. "After you insisted I shouldn't the other day."
"You are 'you'. I am 'me'," he elaborated and I scoffed. "There's a huge difference."
"That's pure gender discrimination right there," I declared and folded my arms in a tiny act of annoyance.
"I never said anything concerning gender here," he tried to argue and I noticed him staring at me. I ignored his stare and peered ahead as he set the big vehicle in motion. "Seatbelt please."
I silently obeyed him, not putting up an argument thus it would be damn foolish if I did. He made a turn and steered the car out of the space around his mansion and into the pack streets.
"Why didn't we take any guards or warriors with us?" I interrogated as the car sped along the freeway.
"Because darling," he shifted his gaze to me for some moments as he said. "I'm the only protection you need. Heaven knows I'd be damned if I let you get hurt."
His words, though thrown lightly held a sincerity that made my heart clench at the realization he wasn't joking about it. I was rendered speechless and couldn't form a word.
"Besides I thought you'd appreciate the privacy," he continued. "With me being introduced to your mother and everything, no extra company. As for your safety, I'm here."
"That was really thoughtful of you," I said in a smile of appreciation. "You are welcome," he winked at me and a small laugh left my lips.
The rest of the drive was silent with him focusing his attention on the road and me sticking my head out of the passenger side window, the breeze fanning my face and I was glad I had secured my hair in a bun which prevented it from becoming a bird's nest.
We were almost at the hospital and he was making the final turn which would put us on the path leading to the entrance when his hand brushed mine.
I stilled for a second and sharply whirled my head and gaze away from the window to his side. For moments, I thought he was unaware of what had just happened.
Especially as his sight remained focused on the path as the car continued to roll. He must have sensed my stare because he angled his head to my side and granted me a grin that came of as mischievous.
"Was that on purpose?" I raised a question.
He granted me no response. The only reaction I got was a slight tilt to his lips as we arrived at the vicinity of the hospital. The vehicle was turned off after we parked and we both alighted.
"You know the way right?" He implored as I rounded the front of the car to his side. "I do," I answered and he nodded with a hand gesture to lead the way.
The hospital appeared a lot different than the last time I was there. The walls were shining with the new white paint and one could hear the hum of air conditions.
The tiles beneath my feet as I walked along the way glistened and the air in the vicinity smelt nice, not the usual disinfectant stench of hospitals.
Flowers had been placed at odd spots in vases, their scent and color adding a warmness to the usual cool tone a hospital gave off. Nurses and the hospital staffs bowed in greeting whenever spotted and I simply waved and smiled in return while Tobias bobbed his head in acknowledgement to their greeting.
It didn't take long for us to round a corner where a door faced, the word VIP room written above the door frame.
"Are you ready?" I asked over my shoulder to the man who stood behind me.
"Is there anything to be ready for?" He questioned and I shrugged before I shoved the door inward.
"Hey mom," I greeted in an enthusiastic manner as we strolled into the fully furnished room.
"Welcome Luna," the brown haired slender nurse who was having a conversation with my mother got up from the seat adjacent to the cormfortable bed and bowed in greeting. "Oh, Alpha."
"Alpha?" My mother said the title like a question as she perked up in her spot where she was propped up on the bed that was adjusted to make her sit comfortably.
She appeared much more better than the last time and I was happy the new environment and proper attention was making her heal faster. Her midnight colored short hair brushed her shoulders which was covered in a red and blue hospital gown with a cross-cross pattern.
"Where's Lincoln?" She implored, her gaze going past me as I approached her. "It has been so long."
"How are you mom?" I questioned, grabbing her palm as I settled my weight beside her on the bed, her brown eyes the same shade as mine directed to the man a few feet away.
"I'm fine sweetie," she replied and narrowed her eyes in suspicion as Tobias kept coming forward. "Who is he?"
"Tobias can you please remove the flower from your face?" I suggested in a sigh as I noticed he had the large flower we brought for my mother in a way that shielded his facial features from sight.
"For you mother," he did as I suggested and bent to gradually place the vase a little distance from her bed.
He stretched back to his full height, his blue eyed stare on her as he smiled, his dominating and powerful presence making the room suddenly seem small.
"Your daughter went overboard with the amount of flowers don't you think?" He tried to make the mood lighter with the question.
Nonetheless it didn't work as mother turned to me and asked. "Who is he?"
Inhaling a deep breath, I released it, and reached out for Tobias's hand who luckily held it as he understood the silent message I sent his way.
Her brown eyes shifted to our hands for a moment and she frowned. "Ivonne?"
