Chapter 27 - Chapter 27

Ivonne's POV

"I have no business being jealous about a woman who has decided to whore around with whoever gives her the least bit of care and attention," he muttered, his statement ringing in my head.

"Well it's better I do that than to die in the hands of someone who was supposed to be my mate and husband," I gritted, through my locked teeth.

I thought I had gotten over a bit of the pain and emotional trauma his treatment had caused me, however hearing his voice and noticing his disgusting attitude through his words made all the sadness of the past wash over me together with the anger pulsing in my bones.

"What gives you the assurance you won't die at his hands?" He raised a question, cackling at my silence. "In case you haven't heard or choose to turn a deaf ear to the word around I'll say it to you. Tobias is a very ruthless man who would not hesitate to kill you if you ever cross him."

"Hell he has killed people just because they piss him off," he continued and to my horror my anger began to melt away as a seed of fear started to grow in my system. "So there is a possibility you may end up dead if you step on his feet."

Lincoln's warning came from a place of spite and half of his statement could be a lie, nonetheless I couldn't shake the feeling of dread that creeped up my spine hence the other half of his statement corresponded with what I'd heard.

What scared me even more was the thought of what would happen to me if Tobias ever found out I played him by lying about or agreeing to give him an heir within the designated year we had concluded when in all ramifications I was not able to bear a child after my miscarriage.

"I'm sure you are beginning to see the picture now aren't you?" Lincoln queried in a mocking manner and I couldn't form a response as my emotions were all over the place in that moment as it switched from fear to anger to worry and back to fear.

"I would not let you get into my head Lincoln," I grumbled at him, praying silently I'd believe my response. "You said after the divorce that I was no longer your concern so if I die or breath is none of your business."

"How do they say it?" He asked in an amused tone. "Just looking out for an old friend or in this case my Ex wife."

"Well I don't want you to fucking look out for me," I hissed, my fingers squeezing the device in my hand such that the edges dug into my palm but I didn't care. "You know what? I pray you die and burn in the most painf-"

My curse was cut midway as Lora walked back into the living room probably done setting in the groceries in the right order so I could begin cooking with ease once I was ready.

Nonetheless what paused my utterance wasn't Lora appearance, rather it was the cause of her shocked outlook as she came to a halt, her eyes widening and her mouth gaping for a moment before she cleared her throat and bowed, her body visibly shaking.

"What?" I mouthed as she stretched back into a standing position.

She didn't offer me a reply but instead gazed at something or should I say someone who stood behind me. "W-welcome home Alpha Tobias."

"Alpha who?" I choked out the question, my whole body going rigid at the realization.

Slowly I brought my phone down from my ear and ended the call despite the fact Lincoln was muttering some rubbish in the background. Inhaling a deep breath I summoned the courage to turn around while I muttered a wish in my head that maybe Lora could be mistaken

"Ivonne?" A masculine voice called from behind me and I didn't need to turn fully see who it was as his powerful presence which I was just taking note of spoke volumes.

A shiver ran through my veins at the vibration in his deep voice. Gulping, I whirled to face him, a smile which obviously displayed how nervous I was on my lips as my brown eyes met his blue ones. "You are back."

"I am," he answered, his brows joining together in a frown as his gaze roamed my facial features before they dropped to my phone which I craddled in my hand and back to my face. "Who was that on the phone?"

"Umm," I cleared my throat and dared to lie. "No one of importance."

"Really," he cocked his head to the side and offered me a look of disbelief. For moments as I stated back at him biting my bottom lip, I once again wondered how someone as old as him could appear so damn handsome.

It was no secret that we werewolves rarely aged, nevertheless you could tell a slight difference with people who were 2-3 decades apart in age.

When Tobias is placed among men of a younger age it was really hard to tell the difference except if one observed his wise words that came with years of experience or had a glimpse into his personal life.

Aside that it was definitely hard to te—"

"Luna?" It was Lora's call that pulled me out of my wandering thoughts and I was glad she did.

"Yes," I said recalling his previous utterance. "Just one of my haters."

"Oh," he nodded and strolled in my path, his gaze directing the message that he still didn't believe me rather he thought it best to drop the matter for the mean time.

"I want to make spaghetti for dinner, can I?" I questioned, feeling the need for his permission.

"Yes, go ahead," he answered to my relief and I couldn't hold in my smile which made him lift a brow in amusement.

"You'd eat right?" I asked shyly, avoiding his eyes.

"It would be my pleasure," he murmured in my neck, his voice sounding deeper and sexier due to our proximity as he came to stand on my right.

At my reaction his lips curled in a smirk and he straightened, blue eyes twinkling. "I'll be up having a shower to freshen up. I'll be down soon."

"Okay," I murmured in response and took a step away from him as my skin tingled from his simple action.

"If I'm not down when you are done, feel free to send for me," he declared and trudged past me in the direction of the stairs.

The living room was silent except for the noise of his heavy footsteps as he climbed the stairs. My vision was on his masculine form till he arrived at his door, opened it and shut it behind him.

Lora whom I had forgotten about her existence in the little moment Tobias's breath brushed my skin as he spoke exhaled and that drew my attention to her. "Were you that tense?

"I was," she admitted in a heartbeat as she tried to rationalize her breathing. She went ahead to place a palm on her chest as she swallowed and inhaled and exhaled.

"I understand," I blurted hence I too was a bit tensed especially as he stood there while Lincoln and I had that distasteful conversation. Who knew how much of it he had heard to the point that he didn't believe me when I lied.

"Let's go make dinner." I dragged her to the the kitchen, having a feeling the rest of the day was gonna be a tensed one
