Ivonne's POV
"I guess it's justified," I shrugged though he couldn't see me, an unknown smile curving my lips. "How are you?"
The question came out of my mouth before I could think and I quickly stretched my palm to place the phone away from me as I let out a silent cream as I felt suddenly nervous at the fact he'd brush off the question of give a clipped remark.
"As fine as I can be," he replied and I broke out in grin. "Not busy?" I inquired.
"Busy with pack duties but still had time to check on you," he told, unknowingly creating a tingling sensation in my belly by his statement.
"I have no idea if I should take such comment as sweet or professional," I confessed my thoughts in the open.
"Whichever you want," he said. "Rather it'd be good for you to take it as me being sincere." "If you say so," I murmured in response, smiling from ear to ear.
"What are your plans for the day?" He implored while I traced the small triangle printed on the bedspread.
"Ummm," I drawled, my gaze diverting to the clock to observe it was a few minutes past 9 am. "First I plan to have my bath, eat a large meal hence I missed eating yesterday—"
"Did you starve yourself?" He questioned in a reprimanding tone.
"No I didn't," I rushed to elaborate. "Lincoln rushed me out of the house in the morning to go to the attorney's and when I returned you know what happened."
"Okay," he expressed his understanding. "And after eating?"
"I plan to visit my mother at the hospital," I revealed. "I've missed her and want to see how she's doing."
"Speaking of," he began, catching my attention.
"The main reason I called yesterday was to give you an update on your mother's condition."
"Is anything wrong?" I asked in worry.
"No," he declared. "It was to inform you everything has been settled about her bills."
"Oh my heavens thank you so much," I said in gratitude and excitement, my eyes sparkling in joy and I felt the urge to give him a hug. "Thank you Tobias."
"I'll wait to receive your thanks in person," he murmured and I could have sworn there was a suggestive urge to it.
"Ummm," I pondered on what to reply. "I'll definitely do that."
"Good," he stated. "Also to add to that, one of the patients got discharged and she's been moved to a better room. I also asked them to upgrade the interior and make her as comfortable as possible."
My chest felt congested as affection overwhelmed my insides. I sniffed, stunned when wetness slid down my cheek to drop on my lap. "Thank you."
"You are welcome," he communicated. "It's all up to you now to get things rolling." "I know." I wiped the wetness with my left hand. "I promise to play my part well."
"That's all I'll be needing from you," he said and I could swear I sensed him smiling through the phone. "Talk to you later Ivonne."
"Okay Tobias I'll—" the call ended in that moment and I detached the phone from my ear to stare at it.
I wasn't the least bit offended at that, instead I was smiling from as I stared at the screen. A giddy feeling growing in my system as it felt like for once in a long time, things were working in my favor.
^^^^^^^
Stepping out of my room and shutting the door behind me, I heard voices coming from down the hall. If my instincts were right it was from the floor below but on my left which matched the notion it was from further in the hall.
I frowned in confusion as I happened the decipher some sort of arguments and aged tones of wisdom that would most definitely belong to the elders of the pack.
Whirling away from the direction my room was in, I strutted to my left till I reached the staircase and began my descent, my mind pondering on why there was such an uproar that morning.
I had not gotten any wind of any scheduled meeting as it usually happened with the Luna. However the fact I was probably no longer one must have played a role if I wasn't informed as it should.
My fingers on the railing, my sneaer clad feet brought me downward. I was clad in a simple white tank top and jeans which was comemented by my white sneakers and jean designed sling
bag that contained my phone was hung across my shoulder and made a division between my breasts.
Reaching the floor below and about to continue on my way down to the vast hall on the first floor, I spotted Lora waving a palm at me from a few doors further to where I had to stop.
"What?" I inquired as she was in hearing range, clad in a black print skirt that halted some inches above her knee and a simple brown blouse with a black line on the sleeves.
"Alpha Lincoln requests your presence in the meeting room," she blurted in one breath as she faced me.
"Why?" I quizzed, perplexed as to the reason.
"He's having a meeting with the pack council members and elders," she explained in reply to my question.
"So I was right," I mumbled and she sent me a questioning glimpse. "Never mind. What's the meeting going on about?"
"About you," she declared and I lifted a brow. "He informed them about your divorce and there happens to be a kind of uproar and displeased arguments."
"I never knew I was this loved," I chuckled, the sound lacking humor. "Let me guess, he needs me to convince them?"
She didn't respond instantly, rather she twisted her fingers, expression growing sad as she avoided eye contact. "I guess so."
"Don't feel bad," I offered her shoulder a squeeze and walked away from the stairs to stroll along the hallway on that floor. "I know how Lincoln can be so it's not a surprise."
Silently we approached the door, voices from within getting louder. I knocked thrice and seconds later Lincoln's voice announced a "come in."
Opening the door, I entered the room and all eyes turned in my path. I recognized each of them and have a curt nod in acknowledgement as required of a Luna, "Good day elders."
"Welcome Luna," the head of the elders answered. "I'm happy you are here and would like you to confirm something for us."
"Is it about the divorce?" I implored not ready to waste time there more than necessary I had planned to spend the day with my mother and wouldn't appreciate any delay.
"Yes," he asserted, pointing at Lincoln. "Our Alpha informed us and we want to know if he is right."
"He is," I answered in a heartbeat and I spotted shock on their facial features. "As you all know, there's another woman at the house and so there's no place for me anymore."
"Why would you bring up Allison in this ma—"
"We can help you resolve this Luna," the kind man said, putting a halt to Lorenzo's sentence and I strived to hold in a smile at that. "It doesn't have to end in divorce."
"There is nothing to resolve here Elder Nathan," Lincoln muttered, rising from his seat in protest and pointed at me. "For years she couldn't bear me a pup and when she did, she was careless enough to kill it."
"For your damn information, there was no way I would kill my own child Lincoln," I almost screamed but tried my hardest to remain calm. Staring at the elders I smiled. "This is why I agreed to the divorce."
