Chapter 51 - The Wedding That Almost Was

The wedding day came faster than anyone expected.

Grace, dressed in white, sat in front of the mirror, staring at her reflection.

She should be happy.

But all she felt was fear.

Lisa stood behind her, adjusting the veil.

"You look beautiful," Lisa said softly.

Grace forced a smile. "Thanks."

But Lisa saw through it.

"Are you sure about this?" Lisa asked.

Grace's hands trembled slightly. "I have to be."

Before Lisa could say more, Joseph rushed in.

"It's time," he said with a grin.

Grace took a deep breath. No turning back now.

Felix sat in the front row, arms crossed, face unreadable.

He watched as Xu Kai stood at the altar, looking too casual for a man about to be married.

Felix had seen the type before.

Men like Xu Kai didn't just change.

And yet, Grace was walking straight toward him.

Lisa sat beside Felix, sneaking glances at him.

She knew he was angry.

But Felix never expressed things like others did.

His silence was his rage.

And right now, that silence was deafening.

The grand hall was filled with whispers and excitement. Guests sat in perfect rows, waiting for the ceremony to begin.

Grace, dressed in a stunning white gown, stood at the entrance, gripping her bouquet tightly.

Her heart pounded.

She had convinced herself this was right.

That marrying Xu Kai was the only choice.

Lisa stood beside her, adjusting the veil. "You ready?"

Grace exhaled slowly. "I have to be."

The music started.

And just like that, Grace walked down the aisle toward Xu Kai.

Felix sat in the front row, arms crossed, face unreadable.

But his eyes— sharp, calculating— never left Xu Kai.

Lisa sat beside him, sneaking glances at his clenched jaw.

He was furious.

And she knew why.

Felix had never liked Xu Kai.

Not because of personal grudges.

But because Felix saw what others ignored.

And now, as Grace reached the altar, Felix's grip on his armrest tightened.

The officiant cleared his throat. "We are gathered here today to witness the union of—"

Felix didn't hear the rest.

His mind was already set.

Lisa noticed the way his fingers tapped against his leg— a subtle sign of impatience.

She had a feeling something was about to happen.

"Do you, Xu Kai, take Grace to be your wife?"

Xu Kai smirked slightly.

"Yeah, sure. I do."

A few guests exchanged uneasy glances.

Lisa stiffened.

But it was Felix who reacted first.

He stood up.

His voice was low, cold. "Stop this wedding."

Gasps rippled through the hall.

Grace's eyes widened. "Felix—"

Xu Kai scowled. "Sit down."

Felix ignored him.

His gaze locked on Grace.

"You're making a mistake," Felix said.

Grace's grip on the bouquet tightened. "This is my choice."

Felix's voice remained calm, but there was steel in his tone. "Then make sure it's truly yours— and not one forced by fear."

Lisa held her breath.

Felix wasn't one to beg.

But this?

This was as close as it got.

Xu Kai scoffed. "Grace, don't listen to him."

Felix's lips curled in amusement, but his eyes remained cold. "Of course, you don't want her to listen."

Grace trembled slightly.

But then she took a deep breath.

"I'm marrying Xu Kai, Felix. Whether you like it or not."

Felix's expression didn't change.

He simply exhaled and muttered, "So be it."

Then, without another word, he turned and walked out.

Lisa hesitated for a moment before rushing after him.

Lisa caught up to Felix in the parking lot.

"Felix, wait!"

He didn't stop.

Lisa grabbed his wrist. "Say something."

Felix finally looked at her, his eyes darker than usual.

"I already did."

Lisa's heart ached. "You're worried about her, aren't you?"

Felix didn't answer.

But his silence spoke louder than words.

And as he got into his car and drove off, Lisa knew—

This wasn't over.

Not even close.
