Chapter 2 - The Journey

A Group of four oddly looking characters were roaming around a beach all of them speaking different languages, not understanding each other until a fifth character magically appeared as the water washed up a small half elf-human looking creature.

"Hey man, Sorry I was late to the party." The Small character got up looking at a big orc looking brute with red hair.

"Robert?" The small character got up from the wet sand and is in shock now.

"I can walk!?" said the small halfling now looking around, seeing an even smaller looking character with a little white beard and hair with small baby hands and feet. The halfling said 'Gale' in a questioning voice who was now speaking in a tongue none of the others understood except the gnome. The gnome nodded giving Larry reassurance it was indeed Gale. The orc laughed looking at two characters that were walking towards them. The two other characters, one appearing to be a dark-skinned human with pointy ears and the other with red skin and a tail with demon-like horns, seemed to be annoyed at the Orc that was laughing at them.

"T, Will, is that you?" looking at the two characters who now seemed to be talking in a voice that everyone could understand.

"Yea?" said the dark-skinned elf. "It's me T."

"I is Robert" said the orc. "Will, you funny looking" Robert pointing at the demon looking character.

"Yea, yea, at least I'm not a dumb orc." Said Will while wagging his tail. Robert made an obscene gesture at the demon saying something in orcish that only Larry understood. The group seemed to have trouble understanding each other except Larry who happened to understand all of them and was able to speak the languages they spoke. Eventually they started understanding each other's languages as they waited for Jay to finish his character creation. After what seemed like two hours of waiting, each of them started to wander around looking for Jay.

"What if he was put somewhere else? He was a beta tester." said Larry.

"Well, he would try to meet us here, wouldn't he?" Gale looked at the others.

"Yeah, but he's probably in trouble by now. You know how he is." T replied nonchalantly.

"We should press forward and look for gear before nightfall." Will suggested to the group.

"I big man, need big sword." Robert said, flexing his muscles to show how strong he was.

"Yeah, big man you need to have a big brain to hold a sword." said Will poking fun at Robert's orcish speech.

A bright light flashed, and a demonic creature was now towering over the group with its back face towards them. It stood about five stories tall and had chains on one hand and shackles in the other. Its belly touched the sand and as it turned to face them, the sand kicked up blinding them. Its unholy face filled with scars and sharp teeth protruding out like tusks. On the demon's head were two large horns filled with the bodies of human-like creatures. Some seemed to look like orcs, other elves and plenty of humans. The creature put its gigantic hands on the floor and knelt down looking at the five players very closely, all who were looking terrified of the large beast that had shown up. The stench of its breath smelled of deceased bodies left in the hot sun as it roared so loud to knock them all off their feet to the edge of the forest.

The group notice their life bar fall to near death as they hear a familiar voice yell "RUN!" Not one of them argued. They all scattered like a pack of rats dogging and diving through the forest. Moving through the forest in all different directions hoping to never see that creature in their path again. The sound behind them was that of what seemed like a battle between gods. The ground shaking with every pummel, the trees being ripped apart from its roots and tossed at the scattered player. The sky became blood red as the battle continued. Black dots started to appear from the sky. The familiar voice bellowed out as if his voice was amplified by magic "RUN NORTH, TO THE CITY OF BEGINNINGS!"

The group did so after seeing what had been moving towards the beach that they ran from. About hundreds of thousands of demons flocking to the fight that was being held at the point they all started. The group lost sight of each other as they ran north as fog started to thicken. The vision of terror haunted them as they pushed through thickly settled vines. The group emerged one by one outside of the forest until only two of the five were left.

"Where's T!" Will yelled at Gale and Robert.

Both looked confused and distraught. "I'm here." T pushed through the last bit of vines that were blocking his exit. "Where's Larry?" Now looking around at the group.

"We were hoping he was with you?" said Gale looking even more terrified.

T turned to the forest looking and started yelling Larry's name out to the forest.

The group now joined T yelling, "LARRY!", by the edge of the forest. They herd leaves rustling and light giggling. They took a step back and noticed eyes looking out from the forest. Giggles started to sound even louder and louder until it became almost maniacal. Now the group was backing away from the forest hoping to see Larry running out.

The red sky flashed a dark green with what appeared to be a skull in the sky and a loud roar of what sounded like wails of pain. The sky turned from red to a darkish blue and the sun looked like it was about to go down. Larry emerged from the forest with what looked like weapons for everyone including a giant ax that was being pulled along from a string connected to the handle.

The group ran to Larry trying to hurry him out of the forest. The small eyes darted towards them and little red creatures with tails and horns hopped out of the forest. Trying to attack them when their backs were turned. Robert hoisted up the great axe with Larry the halfling still attached by the string and swung it sideways at multiple imps. As Larry was being swung sideways but in the opposite direction of the blade he passed out weapons to his allies in the hopes they all were paying attention. Will received a bow and quiver, T had a staff, and Gale was tossed a flute that went over his head and he nearly missed catching it but balanced it on the tip of his babylike fingers.

T looked at the staff in wonder, what he should do. Will knocked the arrow and aimed at the imp furthest away from him. Gale took the flute and started playing a sweet tune making the imps stand still. T took the staff and aimed at a group of imps and yelled "Burn in hell!" As flames erupted underneath them.

The imps started laughing and started speaking in a sort of demonic language which Will understood and said to T "Fire won't hurt them". Will released the string taking out the imp furthest away from them. Larry, still hanging from the handle of the great ax, let an object go from his hand and landed at the center of the group of imps on fire.

"Cover your ears!" Larry shouted. The group dropped whatever they had to cover their ears. A loud bang rang which left only lifeless bodies of imps around.

"What in the world just happened?" Will looked around.

"I bet it was Jay bringing a god tier monster to us." T looked around.

"How you find weapons?" Ask Robert.

"That's a great question. How did you find these weapons Larry?" Gale asked.

"Well..." Larry started explaining how as he got lost in the vines, he had found a group of dead travelers with a caravan that had all sorts of weapons. But he couldn't gather up everything he wanted from it since he heard what sounded like metal clanging and voices in search of something or someone. He proceeded to mention the tedious journey he had lugging around the ax which got caught on the vines every now and then.

Once Larry had finished the tale of his adventures in the forest. More rustling came from the forest. T without hesitation casted a spell at the direction of the noise but it evaporated as soon as it reached the forest edge.

Will shot an arrow at the forest exactly where the spell was casted. The arrow reached the edge of the forest and stopped in mid air before flying back into Wills quiver. Everyone was now tense, taking steps back.

"Attack me again and you will die" a voice rang out from the forest.

"Who are you?" T asked.

A cloaked man who appeared ghostly walked out of the forest. As he walked out of the forest his footprints seemed to leave traces of blood that dissolved every other step he took. The trees that were near him looked as if it decayed being in the presence of such darkness. The man had no skin showing. His cloak covered his entire face leaving nothing for any of them to see except the ghostly reflection of the decaying trees behind him.

"Once you arrive in the city of beginnings. You will have the option to set yourself free." The cloaked man raised his left hand and placed it to his chest. A flash of white light erupted blinding them and the man was gone, leaving no trace of ever being around. The trees looked like they were living and not decaying.

"What has Jay got us into?" Larry said out loud. The looks everyone gave each other seemed to agree that Jay was the one who put them in that situation.

"I... log... now" Robert said, struggling to get the words out.

"Yeah, I'm getting outta here man" Larry agreed.

"How do we log out?" Asked T.

"Great, that kid forgot to tell us how to log out." Will is frustrated with the fact that Jay didn't explain how to log out of the system.

"Looks like we have to go to the city of beginnings." Gale joyfully held the flute out prancing and dancing.

"Let's see you dance when I shove that flute up your…" Robert said in orcish but before he could finish saying what he wanted to say, Larry said in orcish "let it go, we can't fight with each other."

Robert nodded in agreement while giving Gale a murderous look. The group waited a while to see if Jay would appear in the forest since they thought it was his voice that called out for them to run.

"He may be waiting for us at the town of beginnings" Will called out to the group as he pressed forward looking at a path that split into three just ahead.

"Perhaps our Jay thinks we can handle ourselves getting to the city." Gale hopped on the back of Robert making it seem as though he was a ride. Robert turned his head in a state of surprise and saw Gale's face practically in range of a kiss.

"Hello Robert, you don't mind if I just stay here for a bit. I'm a bit short and can't walk as fast as you all."

"No music" Robert demanded as the group walked to the center path not noticing a broken sign with the word looking almost like 'Warning:'.

The path the group took seemed long and narrow, until the path stopped suddenly with what looked like a wall of vines followed by a familiar sense of DeJa'Vu. The group looked around and saw that they walked back to the spot they started from.

"What kind of magic is this?" T sounding sort of exhausted.

"We need to try another path." Will said, sitting down on a rock located near the 3 paths. The rotten sign seemed to be covered in dirt and grass as though it had been attempted to be hidden from the group as they took a long narrow path.

"Right or Left?" Larry asked.

"Right," said Robert pointing at the left path. The group all gave a little chuckle and followed the left path.

The left path was filled with thorn bushes which seemed to have one flower on every bush. Will, as well as Larry and T, halted to take a closer look at this strange plant. The stems of the bush seemed to move like a snake, its thorns seemed to be oozing out a reddish liquid like blood. As they approached closer to one of the bushes Larry noticed an eye blink on one of the flower petals. Larry held out his hand in a motion to stop everyone from getting any closer.

And they all backed up to the center of the road. Larry motioned everyone to gather in a group so he could speak to them quietly. He explained that these plants aren't really plants, and he believes that the reddish liquid is blood from an animal that has crossed paths with it before. He explained that when they were getting close to the plant an eye peeked from the flower petal and that there was dried up blood on one of the thorns.

The group decided they would go back and try the last path until they found that the path was blocked by these plant creatures forcing them to press forward. Each time they moved further and further into the path the creatures started to surround them. The Group of players halted and noticed the sun going down. Larry told everyone that they should have their weapons out and ready for a fight and that T and Will should be in the back casting spells and shooting arrows. While Robert, the biggest one in the group slashes through anything in his path. Himself and Gale would watch the sides and back up the rear end and the front if there are any signs of trouble.

As they pressed forward T started casting fireballs at the plants behind him. Hearing the screams of these thorn bushes as they slithered towards them until the fire burned them to ash, Robert decided to attack any thornbush that was coming towards them. After what seemed like hours of fighting their way through the thorn bush, they finally arrived at the edge of a forest with thick vines. The group looked battered and bloody. They all seemed disappointed. They all knew they were back where they started. There was no sign of the sun. Moon light lit the night and none of the members in the group had a light source.

Larry told the group that there was no sense in trying to move throughout the night. The group looked around trying to find a spot to sleep when Gale the little gnome noticed a sign on the ground. Gale whistled loudly to get the attention of all of the members in the group but the only member that did not go was the big orc, Robert. The sign read 'Warning: All three paths will lead you back here. Light a torch at night to reveal the true path.' He was fast asleep on the dirt path cuddling with his great axe.

The group grabbed the sign and agreed that they would have to make a torch. They woke up Robert to ask him to cut a thick tree branch and some vines with his axe. The rest of the group were looking for rocks to try and make sparks fly out of them. Robert had harvested enough wood and vines to make about twenty torches.

T stopped and noticed that everyone had stopped and was staring at him as he was holding a fireball in his hand using it as light. Now realizing they didn't need any rocks, smiled and moved his hand towards them. The group made the torches and used T's hand to light them and to their astonishment there was a fourth path. The path looked ghostly in color; it seemed to be floating in the air. T decided he would go first in the group since everyone was weary about taking a sinister looking path. Once T stepped on the path it seemed to have made him float on top of the path. He took four more steps following the path and disappeared to what seemed like an invisible barrier. The rest of the group followed him and one by one disappeared.

On the other side the group seemed shocked. There was a big wall about 2 miles out. The land just outside of the wall was filled with houses, pens, and farmland. As they were getting closer and closer to the land they were blinded by a bright white light. One that they were familiar with, one that they saw twice, but it seemed different, they felt different. They felt as though they were being sucked down forcefully into the ground. Some of the members even tried to see if they could escape this pull but it seemed to be strong for them. The group opened their eyes and saw the most beautiful place they could ever imagine.

The sky was filled with human sized fairies whose wings looked so beautiful. One of the fairies in the sky looked almost like an elf. Her wings looked angelic with teardrop tips around the edges. The color of her wings was pink and white and glowed like a neon sign. She looked confused and the fairies around her were calling her queen. The man beside her had looked at the other fairies with such anger they all looked like their wings were forcing them away from her leaving a circular perimeter around her and him.

"Thank you, Fred." she said, her voice soothing to the ears.

"Anything for the queen of the fairies". Fred said in a thick French accent bowing.

"Pretty Lady!" yelled Robert, calling the attention of the Queen. Fred looked down at the group and said to the queen.

"Do not look upon those hideous creatures especially that elf with a staff they are beneath us, literally and figuratively." Fred turned his head to the Queen who was once by his side and realized she had moved to the group with the elf, demon, orc, gnome, and half elf. "Queen, you should not surround yourself with these monsters." Said Fred, now moving in closer to the group.

"I will do what I please!" said the Queen looking at Fred as if he disobeyed an order.

"Yes, my queen." Fred said a bit disapprovingly, but the queen did not pay any attention.

The group looked awe struck when she approached them. T had his mouth wide open, and Fred looked at him with disgust. The queen looked at the group and said "I'm Momo, Queen of the fairies and ambassador of the elves of the first Empire. Who are you and where are we?"

The group announced their names to her transfixed on the wings on her back that seemed to leave glitter dust whenever it flapped. They mentioned how they were teleported to the area without their consent. She looked at the group and asked them in a more serious tone. "Where is your admin?" The group looked at each other with confusion. Momo looked at the group and asked again "where is your admin?"

"If I may, my Queen." Gale bowed his head.

"You may," said Momo.

"Our admin might be our friend Jay; he was a beta tester in the game." Momo's face turned bright red, not in fury, but almost as though she heard great news.

"Fred, he's here." Fred looked at the group as she said this.

"It can't be, they are weak." Fred said to Momo.

More bright lights started filling the area. Robots, creatures and humans with guns, aliens, and many more weird characters started spawning in. There was no more space in the ground or sky. People seemed to be getting squished. One final light flashed, and a man cloaked in ghostly robes appeared at the center of everyone. He summoned a black orb in his hand and held it up. Spells, gunfire, arrows, and much more all headed towards him, but everything seemed to disappear into the orb. The orb shot out in the air and expanded, absorbing everyone into its dark void. The man had created enough space for people to have room but made sure everyone could see him. His outfit changed to red as though he was cloaked in blood. His voice entered everyone's ears in a menacing deep dark tone. "You are all enslaved in the system..." the voice started. "My system. The world I created is meant to be my kingdom and for rules to be followed. Perhaps you do not like my kingdom. Well, you can stop me if you reach my castle. I only ask that you follow three simple rules. However, before I give you the rules, I'd like to make a few suggestions. First, do not attempt to storm my castle without finishing your prerequisites. Secondly beta testers, you all have an advantage over the majority of the population, I only ask that you follow this suggestion carefully as you all know what happens, This game is categorized as extreme meaning like hard mode you will not be able to log out and when you die in the game you will be sent to the void. If the game is completed and you are still in the void your memories will be stuck in the game, leaving your real-life bodies a vegetable. Now that the suggestions are out of the way, rule number one is those that cheat the system will be taken to an area where you will suffer worse than the void, and once the game is completed you will be stuck in the void. Since your life is at risk you will want to treat this as your real life. Rule number two is my favorite of all, major cities are safe zones to a point if you happen to kill in the cities including killing NPCs you will have a high-level bounty in the area and are not allowed in the city until you pay off your bounty or die. One final thing I would like to leave you all with. Shop NPCs and quest starter NPCs will only have one life." The bloody figure seemed to be finished with what was his expectation for the game when people noticed a man equipped with the most frightening skull armor and weapons. No one even knew he was there until the man finished his speech.

The skull armored man raised his hand with a sword that seemed like it was equipped for a giant. Not one person made a sound, not even a gasp. The silence filled the void, and the skull armored individual struck down at the bloodied cloaked man. People cheered as they saw the sword slashed down on the bloodied cloaked man but stopped abruptly as they noticed the cloaked man was now behind the armored man.

A laugh rang out from the cloaked man. He raised his hand to the armor and crushed it as he closed his fist tight. The people were shocked. Momo and Fred did not seem to be in shock of what had just happened, but they seemed to be smiling. Momo looked at the group and said he escaped his armor before it was crushed. The group, now even more confused, looked behind the cloaked man and saw a cloaked figure with a skull mask appear behind him once again. This time they moved amazingly fast that even Fred and Momo were having trouble keeping up with the fight.

Momo told the group that not a single blow landed on either person, and that they were moving so fast she had trouble telling which one was which. Fred Looked as though he was focusing all his might on this one fight. Momo had blocked his view, and he proceeded to ask why. Momo explained that this fight should not be interfered with and that they should leave as soon as they have the chance.

The two figures stopped fighting at the center abruptly. The cloaked man with the skull mask started descending slowly as though he was defeated. The other cloaked man looked at the group and wished them luck. The dark void seemed to collapse in on itself and released everyone to the City's center.
