Chapter 4 - Lvl Up

The sunlight illuminated the courtyard with people from the guild wondering why they were called from their duties to gather around in this gigantic courtyard. The people were looking around waiting for the leaders of the guild to show up for some answers. T was the first to show up in his new gilded cloak with the crest of the guild embedded on his shoulders. The next to show up was Fred in a very tech looking robe with the crest embedded on his chest. Will came out just after Fred equipped with archer robes that had the crest on his right side. The group waited a few moments and saw that Robert in full half black and half white armor was carrying a little creature playing music on a pan flute. The pan flute had the crest on it and Roberts Shield had the guild crest on it as well. Momo Flying out from the tower was wearing a beautiful silk dress that made her stand out from the group. She was carrying a wondrous staff that none of the other members had seen before. It has a miniature fairy on the top of the staff that seemed life-like. She landed gracefully next to the others as they were in awe of her presence.

"Where's Jay?" Momo asked.

"That's what we usually say about Larry." T replied.

"Not sure, I thought he was with you." Larry added. A loud crack of lightning shot out between leaders of the guild and the guild members leaving a burn mark on the floor.

"Always trying to make an epic entrance." Will yelled out.

A hand reached out from the burnt floor grasping the dirt and pushing itself forward. A creature that looked out of the fantasy world and more like the science fiction world started crawling out. The group started to scream and panic as the leaders now raised their weapons to the creature. "This is a boss from Lazers and Razors, what is the creature doing here?" Gale called out to the group.

Gale looked puzzled when he saw the creature stand up on its hind legs. The creature had no face. The elbows of its legs had a razor sticking out of each leg. It had 12 fingers all with sharp claws and its back filled with spikes that looked like metal. Its chest seemed to have vent-like flaps that seemed to have something metal peeking out of it. Its skin was as tough as a rhinoceros but glossy as if it had been under water. It had 4 spiked tails that were 15 feet long. The creature turned its faceless head away from the guild leaders and to the civilians.

Jay walked behind the leaders holding three large crates on both arms and yelled out "What the hell is that thing?"

The group looked at Jay and then looked back at the creature asking him if he knew what was going on. Jay explained to them that he was on his way down to the courtyard when he remembered that he needed the potions of experience gain and that was the reason why he was late. Robert tried to explain what had happened, but his words were so chopped up that Jay only understood that the monster looks like it's from a different game. T and Fred were already casting spells on the creature trying to take the attention of the rest of the guild and Will pointed out that the creature was still chasing some of the guild members. Gale casted a spell on the floor to turn it into quicksand and it slowed the beast down. Larry had no weapons on him and was asking Jay if he had any grenades or other items that he could use. Jay tossed Larry an old musket looking rifle. Larry looked at Jay wondering how he was hiding that long rifle without having trouble moving since Jay was wearing some sort of ceremonial, clothing black and white with a few small looking pouches. The crest is located on the belt he was wearing and on the chest piece of his ceremonial robes.

Larry took aim with the rifle and shot out a round circular bullet. It hit the back of the creature's head and the creature turned looking at the group of leaders standing ready for battle. Momo in the air cast spells to heal any wounded member of the guild and asked everyone to go back to their homes as fast as possible to ensure their safety. She Casted a special spell that stopped the creature from going any further while trapping themselves in the cage with the creature. She yelled out to the group that she could only hold the spell for 10 minutes. Jay looked at the group and said that he couldn't really do much since he was preparing training for the guild and only had a few weapons. He also told them he's never seen that creature before in the game. Gale told Jay that the creature that they are fighting is from another game called Lazers and Razors.

Fred raised his hand and appeared to be typing in the air. Fred clasped his hands together and summoned a few rifles. Gale looked sort of shocked and asked Fred how he summoned guns from Lazers and Razors, as the metallic looking rifles slowly descended to the hands of his allies. Fred just told them that they only have a few minutes until the guns will disappear. They all shot out red laser beams at the creature some of which missed. Larry's beam and wills beam hit the creature on its chest. Jay stayed staring at the gun as if he did not want to shoot. Momo, still holding her staff in the air, noticed Jay hesitating to shoot the creature with the gun and called out to Robert who was holding his great ax in one hand and firing the gun with his other carelessly. Robert looked up at the beautiful fairy and was in awe. She asked Robert to hand the great ax to Jay so that he could fight the beast. Jay tossed the gun off to the side and took Robert's great ax in one hand and the shield Robert left lying on the floor and ran straight to the creature.

Jay lifted the shield up which covered his entire body as he was running to the beast and yelled out to the group "FIRE!". The group shot their weapons towards Jay and the shield. Jay parried the creature towards the lasers and swung the ax down the back of the creature. The creature shot the spines from its back at Jay. Jay nearly got nicked by one of the spines as he moved the shield amazingly fast to block the spines. A loud scream came from above the other leaders. They all turned to look upwards and notice that Momo had dropped her staff and was flying straight toward the creature. Cursing at the monster she pulled out a beautiful rapier. The group looked back and noticed that above the creature Jay was impaled with four spikes. They all started shouting at the creature as they fired their guns running at it. The creature opened the flaps that looked like vents and shot out chains with knives from its chest. All of them were very careless, but the creature was so overwhelmed with all the force they had it slowly started dropping down. Amazingly the knives missed all of them. Robert picked up the great ax from the floor and with one final blow, cut the head off the creature like a hot knife through butter.

Momo ran straight to Jay and held his head in her arms. In the background the group kept shooting the creature until the metallic weapons disappeared, only leaving a pile of blue goop. Larry looked at the group and stared at Jay's lifeless body as Momo wailed mourning Jay's death.

"He's not breathing," Momo whimpered.

"Maybe I could revive him" Fred raised his hands up in the air and clasped his hands together. Fred shot up in the air groaning in pain. T waved his hands and Fred slowly descended downward. "I guess there are limits to my power," said Fred, looking very sad. Tears running down the faces of the group. People started showing up to the courtyard since they couldn't hear fighting anymore and noticed that the creature was dead. They all started cheering but stopped as soon as they noticed Jay with a giant hole in his chest. The leaders stood up and looked at the group. Will said to everyone that this was a battle won but could never have been done without the help of Jay. He went on to explain that he wanted everyone to train in combat to protect themselves and the people they call family. Momo rose up trying to carry his body up but could not handle his weight while she was so distraught. Robert grabbed Jay's body and carried it following Momo.

Larry noticed a piece of paper on the floor with blood stains on the title of the paper read speech. Larry took a stand and said "Guys, I think Jay wanted to say this to the people." Larry handed the parchment to the rest of the group, and they all agreed that Momo should read it to them. The leaders told the group to get ready for a funeral. As they prepared for the funeral, they handed the letter to Fred and asked him if he could give the letter to Momo.

Fred entered the room in the tower where the leaders were living. He saw Momo sitting by the table casting spelling on Jay. Weeping she cast her final spell and nothing happened. Fred walked to her and said, "We will find a way. We will bring him back. It's not the end of the world."

She looked at Fred with tears running from her eyes and said, "If I didn't tell him to take the weapon, he would still be alive." She grasped Jay's body and sobbed louder.

Fred looked at Momo for a brief moment wishing he could do something to help but his magic couldn't turn back time. Fred Looked at the parchment and said, "Momo he would have wanted you to do this speech for the Guild." He handed her the parchment.

She read the parchment and said, "We will do the speech today, it will bring hope to the guild when hope is lost." Fred looked shocked when she rose up, her wings spread open and had a very powerful aura surrounding her. She seemed to glisten white and looked very determined.

Later that evening everyone gathered in the courtyard. Momo floating above the leaders yelled out to the group for attention. Not a Single sound was made when she had called out for them. "We were gathered here earlier in the day to show you all that hope will carry us forward. Jay wanted to give you inspiration with this speech…" Momo paused for a moment. She seemed to struggle a little but pressed on saying what she needed to say. "I will be reading to you all what Jay has written. When we first came into this game we expected to have fun. We know it's not a game and that we should be very careful." Momo started sobbing again. "It is our duty as people to defend each other and help one another out." Momo seemed to have obtained new strength as she kept reading the bloodied parchment out loud to the group. "It is OUR Duty to free ourselves from this game with as many of us alive. We will never turn down an ally, but we will never back down from the enemy. As a Guild we are family and friends. Separated, we are nothing. So today I will give you a gift that took three long weeks to create in the beta. A potion so rare only a high-level alchemist could create with the help of a master alchemist NPC. This is an experience potion." Momo pointed at the large crates Jay had brought down to the group. "Use this to your advantage. Please come to us if you need help. We will do everything within our power to help create a better life, and Level Up to our max potential." Momo finished Jay's speech in such a powerful note everyone cheered and some even raised glasses to cheer.

Momo dropped by the other guild leaders and they asked what they should do. Momo told them to hand out one bottle to the guild from the creates. Will, Fred, T, Robert, Larry, and Gale all stood behind the creates and handed the bottle to one person at a time. Until there were only eight left. The group all took one and handed the last bottle to Momo.

"You might be able to use it to level up high enough to resurrect him." Larry said.

He also handed his bottle to her, but she refused to take it from him. The group all proceeded to go up to the tower as the other members in the guild decided to go back to their homes. They passed through the map room and decided that they would train hard. Momo, more eager than the others, spent countless days and nights just training to become a powerful healer. The rest of the group tried to find ways to make sure they could find a way to bring Jay back. The guild members decided to spread out to major towns to find information about resurrections. Some of them opened up pubs and other iron works, some of them even started creating laser weapons for shooters. All of the shops were booming and a lot of them found out information about quests that the Guild would have to beat. Some with rumors of people going in and not a single person coming back out. Others about specialized skills that can only be obtained by having certain stats. None about resurrection though. It seemed that not a single person could find anything about resurrection.

After a very long training session Momo reached her max Healing. An NPC came through the door with a letter that read congratulations. Momo asked what the note was for, but the NPC poofed in front of her. She opened the letter which read:

Dear Momo,

I am pleased to inform you that you qualify for the healer exams. This will take place at the corner of Fairies Spring hospital. A date and time will be sent over to you soon as you accept Enrollment. You will be allowed to surpass your current stats after a master healer deems you qualified.

-T.C.M.

Momo reread the letter and could not figure out who T.C.M. was. She looked around the room to see if someone was trying to trick her. She decided that she would hold off her 'Enrollment' until she spoke with the rest of the guild leaders to see if they have a different perspective on this situation. She hurried out of the map room and found Fred studying with T on necromancy. Momo slammed her hand on T's book and said, "Is this NPC written or Player written?" T Looked a little shocked but proceeded to read the letter.

"It could possibly be NPC" T said, handing back the parchment.

"Where's Larry? He will know." Fred said.

"LARRY!" Fred and T yelled out. A bright light flashed, and Larry appeared.

"It worked!" Larry shouted. Fred and T both started laughing and Momo was confused.

"What worked? And why are you guys laughing?" Momo asked.

"It's a teleportation crystal for those that want to be strictly magic free. I got it to work." Larry said. He was now looking at the other two that were still laughing.

"We called Larry's name not knowing where he was, and he just appeared. That's why we are laughing" T still laughing, almost gasping for air.

"That shit was funny, No?" Fred said in a very thick French accent that could barely be understood.

Momo let out the tiniest of smiles and went back to business. She handed Larry the parchment and Larry pulled out some weird looking glasses that seemed to have 30 different lenses. He flicked the lenses which seemed to get smaller and smaller as he flicked them down.

"This is definitely an NPC writing but I'm not sure who T.C.M is. It could be the Healer training you." Larry said, handing the parchment back to Momo.

"What are you going to do Momo?" Fred asked.

"I am accepting the training; I want to resurrect Jay." Momo said. A bright flash of white light filled the room. Another NPC with a letter walked forward to Momo. She reached for the letter and poof the NPC disappeared. She looked at the letter for a moment and opened it in front of them. The letter read:

Three days' time.

-T.C.M.

"Will you guys go with me?" Momo asked.

"Of course we will. I'll get the others" Larry said, gathering all of his things and called out to the rest of the group. Momo seemed a lot happier than before. She felt like she was close to finding out how to resurrect people in the game. She felt as though her hope of finding out how to save Jay would soon come true.
