"You thought things would remain the same after rejecting my sister? How naive!" A gruff voice growled.
It was the same voice that spoke earlier.
Echoes of agreement came from the four other boys surrounding Roxie's savior.
Roxie's savior wasn't panicked. He looked exactly like she remembered him. His face was pale and there was a sickly look between his brows.
Somehow, being healthy and being weak blended into a perfect mix in this man.
He looked like he could fall over after one hit but he wasn't backing down.
"I have no obligation to accept any random person's confession." He said.
Till this moment, Roxie don't really know her savior's name. Their meeting was just a brief intersection in Roxie's past life.
Arguing with Gloria yielded no results. Wth no hope of winning the argument or proving her ownership, things went downhill a few moments later. Nelson came to visit.
Nelson attended the design academy too so he wasn't stopped when he came to the hall.
Nobody knows if Gloria had called him here or if Nelson was here on his own accord.
That was when their underground relationship was exposed. The two of them might not have the power to pretend in front of Roxie anymore. It was a series of blows.
Roxie was devastated.
These two were people she considered to be family. After putting her dreams of a successful life and being a successful designer aside, these two were the things closest to her heart.
Nelson didn't bother to hide his infidelity after seeing Roxie lose shamefully. He broke up with her right then.
Roxie left the hall and everything else to wander around in a daze.
Her mind had not connected with reality after the series of bad news. She didn't know she was crossing a road when the traffic light was emitting a green light.
She almost died.
Her savior saved her from that deadly fate.
He was like an angel. He didn't ask for credit or appreciation.
He escorted Roxie to a nearby clinic. When he saved her from the moving vehicle, the two of them sustained various bruises.
After getting treatment, he escorted Roxie to her apartment.
When the two of them arrived at the apartment, Roxie discovered that Gloria had dumped all her things outside the door and she had changed the keys.
When she was in that particular moment in her past life, she felt everything was moving too fast. Gloria must have been planning this takeover for a very long time.
The Roxie from her past life was stranded and she didn't know the apocalypse was going to descend. Roxie didn't borrow any money then.
Before she could do anything, her savior handed a wad of bills to her before leaving.
Her savior persuaded her to get an hotel till she could get back on her feet.
Their encounter always brings a flush of warmth to Roxie's heart every time she thought of it.
Now, someone wanted to bully her savior. She was not going to let that happen on her watch.
She had purposely made her footsteps silent when she approached this corner. She wanted to observe the scene first.
Roxie stopped concealing her footsteps.
The noise from her walk made her savior and the bullies around him react. Numerous eyes fell on her.
"I thought it was something serious but it is just a little girl. Little girl, I am warning you. You should do the sensible thing. You must leave now before you are implicated by some things you shouldn't meddle in." The gruff voice from earlier warned.
The voice came from a man that was at the lead. He was wearing casual clothes but his demeanor pointed as the fact that he might be a college or university student.
His hair was dyed a bright red color and piercings was evident in the areas his clothes couldn't cover. The head of a huge tattooed dragon was in the area between his neck and right shoulder.
His black eyes looked at Roxie with dark promises and threats.
Roxie didn't falter or flinch. She returned the same energy the man was giving her.
The four other men around Roxie's savior were relatively tame. Some had tattoos and dyed hair though.
Thankfully, Roxie was wearing a short sleeved blouse she didn't have to go through the stress of rolling her clothes up.
Roxie tilted her head to the side with a small smile, "That is what I want. I want to meddle in the things that has nothing to do with me. What will you do?"
The red haired man's expression changed.
His face was as black as the bottom of a pot.
"You don't know what is good for you. I am not going to say my warning thrice. Get away from here now before I help you make that decision." The man said.
"Big man. You have issue with me, keep the lady out of it." A cool voice said.
Automatically, Roxie's lips lifted into a smile. It was her savior again.
She wasn't the helpless woman she was when they met in her past life. She was not going to make him do all the work this time.
She turned her head to him, "Don't worry. I am going to take care of this."
Once she was done with fixing the brains of this group of riffraff, she was going to ask for her savior's name. Besides, she still had a lifesaving debt to pay.
Roxie knew her savior might not even need her help in getting out of these bullies' clutches. Still, she wanted to assist him anyway.
"I have done my part in warning you. Anything you get from this moment onwards is on your head." The red haired man said.
"You are talking too much." Roxie sneered before launching herself into action.
The deep experience she gained from playing at the edge of life and death played a big role.
These bullies hadn't experienced bloodshed. The only thing they might have experienced was little fights. Their aura and moves confirmed this guess.
The battle between Roxie and these bullies was an unfair one.
Her attacks was fast and concise.
In Roxie's experienced eyes, the moves the red haired man and his group members did was full of holes.
Within minutes, the bullies were laying in the ground groaning with pain.
"I am sorry! We didn't know this man was under your protection, queen. I promise you from now on we will stay away from him." The red haired man begged as he cradled his face.
His face was filled with bruises. The corner of his lips was split and a little bit of blood was at the injured area.
A dusty shoe print was on his face too.
All in all, he looked like he had been through a lot.
"Aside from that, it will be better to stop bullying others completely. You don't know when you will meet someone like me again." Roxie said, "Now, you guys should leave."
The moment the last word dropped from her lips, the people that were sprawled out on the floor jumped up immediately.
Their actions were comical.
It felt like they had been injected with stimulants. Their injuries didn't hinder their actions in any way.
The bullies didn't waste any time.
They left the area quickly.
Soon enough, only Roxie and her savior were left in the corner.
"Thank you very much." Her savior said.
"Don't thank me. I didn't really do much." Roxie's finger scratched her nose gently.
Somehow, she was feeling different around him.
In her past life, she was still preoccupied with the betrayal from her boyfriend and roommate. She didn't have the opportunity to feel anything else.
Now, it felt like she was stepping into new territory.
She didn't feel like this with Nelson.
What she felt with Nelson was tame compared to the current butterflies in her stomach.
"You still saved me. That deserves appreciation." He smiled.
"I understand. By the way, my name is Roxie." Roxie stretched her hand out.
"Ambrose. Pleased to meet you." Ambrose shook her hand.
Finally, she got his name.
"Ambrose." She let the name roll around in her tongue, "Your name is beautiful."
"Your name is very good too." Ambrose said.
Roxie wanted to repay Ambrose with something tangible.
She wanted to tell him about the apocalypse.
Although there was a possibility that Ambrose might think she was crazy and he might not be selected to be a player, she still wanted to say something about the imminent end of the world.
To her, it was the only gift that could represent what she wanted to convey.
