Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: The Beach and a Journal

Peverell Beach House, Cornwall, 7/15/1982

Harry woke up to the sound of the ocean crashing against the shore in the distance, he had quickly become accustomed to the sound and found that it made it easier for him to fall asleep at night.

Harry really liked their new home, it wasn't near as big as Grimmauld but it was more than big enough for him and Bellatrix and it was much more peaceful than the gloomy townhouse.

Harry stretched his arms over his head, and gently extricated himself from Bellatrix before getting out of bed and wandering down the kitchen to start making breakfast.

The great thing about the move was that the unexpected visits had stopped as Sirius had been too busy getting into a routine with Harry's younger self and Bella's sisters were giving them time to enjoy their new home.

There was also the fact that Andromeda had decided Tonks' grounding extended to her not being allowed to come over and play on the beach but Harry had a feeling she would cave any day now.

Harry started the bacon frying and put the kettle on, there was no house elf here not that Harry really minded as he was very proficient in the kitchen and actually enjoyed cooking when he got to eat the food he fixed.

Harry kept his eye on the bacon flippng it occasionally, while he started scrambling up a few eggs, and started them cooking, by the time the kettle whistled the bacon was done and the eggs were ready to be plated.

"Oh, my!" Harry heard a female voice exclaim from behind him making him nearly drop the pan of eggs on the floor.

"H-hey Narcissa," Harry said, seriously regretting coming downstairs in only his boxers.

"Where is Bellatrix?" Narcissa asked pointedly looking over his head.

"She's still asleep," Harry said as he divided the eggs onto the two plates he had waiting.

"Not anymore, is that bacon I smell?" Bellatrix asked hopefully as she walked into the kitchen still in her nightgown.

"Yes, breakfast is ready, are you hungry Narcissa?" Harry asked politely.

"No, not for food," Narcissa quipped seeming to have overcome her embarrassment.

"Right, I think I'll go put some clothes on," Harry said as he waved his wand causing the plates of food and the tea service to float over to the table.

Harry quickly cast a warming charm on his plate and made his way upstairs to get dressed.

"So Harry, do you usually cook breakfast in your underwear or was that just for my benefit?" Narcissa asked after they were all sat down at the table ten minutes later.

"I had planned to bring Bella breakfast in bed," Harry admitted as he sipped his morning tea.

"That's very sweet, if you tire of her I am very recently widowed," Narcissa said in a flirting tone.

"Hands off Cissa, I don't share my toys," Bellatrix warned only have jokingly.

"Fine, but where can I find a man that looks like that under his robes and will voluntarily make me breakfast in bed," Narcissa demanded.

"A muggle maybe?" Bella suggested thoughtfully.

"Now you're just being cruel, you know I can't date a muggle or grandfather will banish me from the family," Narcissa pointed out with a scowl.

"Alright, save this for your endless girl talk," Harry said tiredly.

"Spoilsport, I did have something to discuss with you when I arrived but I somehow got distracted when I saw you cooking in such a state of undress," Narcissa said easily enjoying the embarrassed look on his face.

"Alright, so what can I do for you?" Harry asked remembering Andromeda's warning from a few days ago.

"I have a friend who needs someone dealt with, I told her that I might know someone if she was willing to pay," Narcissa explained in a business like tone.

"Do you think I'm a hitman or something?" Harry asked tiredly.

"No, I see you as someone who can get a job done no matter what it is, " Narcissa replied easily.

"Who do they want taken care of?" Harry asked wondering why he didn't just say no.

"Lord LeStrange, she also needs you to retrieve the LeStrange family grimoire," Narcissa explained casually.

"Why?" Harry asked as he finished his eggs.

"From what she explained to me, four hundred years ago House Greengrass and House LeStrange entered into a betrothal contract. The bride was the daughter of Lord LeStrange and became pregnant before she was to marry the new Lord Greengrass violating the terms of the agreement".

" Lord Greengrass cancelled the contract as he swore the unborn child was not his and he would not taint his line with the blood of a stranger, Lord Lestrange in his anger placed a powerful blood malediction on the entire Greengrass bloodline," Narcissa explained in a lecture like tone.

"So your 'friend' wants me to bring her the LeStrange family grimoire so she can lift the curse?" Harry asked curiously.

"Yes, she wants this madness to end, she just found out she was pregnant with another daughter and doesn't want to risk her child becoming afflicted with the blood curse," Narcissa explained.

"Alright, I'll think about it," Harry said tiredly knowing perfectly well he would end up taking the job.

"How much does the job pay?" Bellatrix asked curiously.

"One hundred thousand galleons," Narcissa said making Harry inhale the tea he was just about to swallow.

"One *cough* hundred thousand," Harry sputtered out.

"Yes, though I expect ten per cent as a finders fee," Narcissa said flatly.

"Alright, I suppose I have the best resource into the LeStrange family," Harry said lookng at Bellatrix hopefully.

"I think I can get you through the wards of LeStrange manor but that's about it, Rudy's father didn't like me very much and didn't have us over after we wed," Bellatrix admitted.

"I can work with that, getting in will be the hardest part anyway," Harry said thoughtfully.

"True but Randolph is very good with his wand," Bellatrix reasoned.

"If I can get in without waking him he'll never have a chance to raise his wand," Harry said dismissively.

Randolph LeStrange had never been a death eater but he was a strong sympathizer to their cause and was responsible for passing laws discriminating against muggleborns for the last few decades.

He wasn't a death eater but he was not innocent either and Harry had no problem killing him if it meant saving a child from such a horrible fate.

"Okay, I'll take the job just give me a couple of weeks to get everything ready," Harry answered as he poured himself another cup of tea.

"That will be fine, I'll let her know you have accepted," Narcissa said looking quite happy with his answer.

"Have you heard from Andy?" Bellatrix asked getting bored with the topic at hand.

"Yes, she will be bringing Nymphadora by tomorrow so she can play at the beach," Narcissa replied.

"Great, so much for the peace and quiet," Harry said grumpily.

"You don't fool me for a minute, she has you wrapped around her little finger," Narcissa said with a smirk.

"She's not wrong," Bellatrix cut in though less amused.

"If you say so, how is your son?" Harry asked pointedly changing the subject.

"He's doing well, Sirius has been bringing Harry over so he has someone his own age to play with," Narcissa said happily.

"Now I want my own baby," Bellatrix said in her bratty little girl voice.

"I don't think either of us is ready for that," Harry said gently.

"We might not have a choice," Bellatrix muttered her face looking worried.

"What do you mean?" Harry asked looking concerned.

"I forgot to take this months dose of the potion," Bellatrix admitted quietly.

"Oh," Harry eloquently replied remembering what the two of them had been doing for the past few days all over their new house.

"You look like Sirius when he found out what happens to the dogs that get neutered," Narcissa said looking very amused.

"We'll deal with that problem later," Harry said realizing what the implications of Bellatrix getting pregnant could be.

Before anything else could be said the fireplace flared up in green flames before Andromeda stepped out gracefully from the fireplace in the sitting room.

She stayed there for a minute before green flames flared again and Tonks tumbled out in a heap in front of the fireplace.

"Good morning," Harry said politely as Andromeda and Tonks came into the kitchen.

"Thank you, I hope you don't mind but I wanted to let Nymphdora play at the beach a day early, she's been driving me mad," Andromeda said tiredly as she helped herself to a cup of tea and took a seat.

"So can I go to the beach already," Tonks asked impatiently positively bouncing up and down in excitement.

Harry turned to Tonks and said, " the beach is that way, watch out for sharks."

"Harry would you mind taking her down to the beach and watching her, I need to have some girl talk?" Andromeda asked hopefully.

"What am I a babysitter?" Harry asked indignantly.

"I'm not a baby," Tonks protested.

"Sure your not," Harry said patronisingly.

"Please Harry, I need to discuss something you don't want to hear and she doesn't, need to hear," Andromeda begged giving him a pout Bellatrix used on him quite often.

"Fine, come on Tonks," Harry said getting up from the table and leading an overly excited Tonks outside towards the beach.

Harry sat in a lounge chair under an umbrella he had conjured, he was watching Tonks run out into the incoming waves and squealing excitedly when they slammed into her.

Harry had to admit she looked cute playing in the waves in an old tee shirt and shorts, they had been out here for an hour or so and it was just starting to get really hot which is why he had conjured the umbrella.

Deciding he had been lazing around long enough, Harry got up and walked over to Tonks and pointed his wand at her and cast the sunscreen charm again.

"Do you want to build a sandcastle?" Harry asked when Tonks looked over at him.

Before she could give him an answer a rather large wave knocked her on her bum and washed her onto the sand at his feet.

"Okay, but it's cheating if you do it with magic," Tonks said after she got to her feet.

"I have to use my wand to conjure the buckets and shovels," Harry argued.

"Fine, but you can't build the sand castle with magic," Tonks said firmly.

"Agreed," Harry said before conjuring some buckets and a pair of tiny shovels.

"Okay, now what?" Tonks asked curiously.

"I have no idea, I was hoping you knew," Harry said uncertainly having never been to the beach and not knowing anything about sandcastles.

"So how are we going to build a sandcastle then?" Tonks asked curiously.

"We'll figure it out I guess," Harry said as he crouched down and started filling a bucket with sand.

They didn't figure it out, two hours later and all they had was a large pile of sand, this was beyond embarrassing.

Every time they tried using the bucket as a mould the sand would fall apart a few minutes later. Harry was almost relieved when Andromeda came out to let them know lunch was ready.

Harry was covered all over in sand and ran up to his room to take a quick shower before he ate, when he came down the stairs he heard the sound of high pitched laughter coming from the kitchen, once he heard Tonks talking he realised the laughter was at his expense.

'Sandcastles are stupid," Harry thought moodily as he walked into the kitchen.

"So did you have fun at the beach Harry?" Andromeda asked sweetly.

"Sandcastles are stupid," Harry said with a scowl kicking off more laughter from the Black sisters.

"Why didn't you just use your wand?" Bellatrix asked confused.

"Because she said that was cheating," Harry said pointing his thumb at Tonks.

"Of course she did, she can't use magic yet," Andromeda said with a smirk making said daughter huff.

"Right, so where is Sirius today?" Harry asked hoping to get off the subject of sandcastles and being outsmarted by a nine year old.

"He's with Amelia Bones letting Harry play with her niece," Andromeda answered smirking at the less than subtle change of topic.

"He's still seeing Amelia?" Harry asked in surprise.

"He had a massive crush on her in school, so I think this is more than a fling for him," Andromeda explained with a shrug of her shoulders.

"Huh, I always heard he was rather promiscuous," Harry said thoughtfully as he took a bite of his sandwich.

The rest of the afternoon flew by pretty fast, Andromeda stuck around until three before she left to wake Ted up for his shift at the hospital, shortly after Narcissa left to pick up Draco from Lady Greengrass leaving Harry and Bella on their own.

They were currently sitting on the couch on the porch looking out over the ocean, Bellatrix was leaning against his side and Harry was lost in his own thoughts.

"Are you going to be mad with Bella if she does get pregnant?" Bella asked suddenly pulling Harry from his thoughts about the LeStrange job.

"No, it would be just as much my fault as it is would yours," Harry said seriously pulling her into his side gently.

"From how you deal with Andy's brat I know you will be a great father," Bellatrix said thoughtfully.

"I want children one day, I'm just worried they'll end up turning into me," Harry said honestly.

"That wouldn't be so bad, I'm just worried that if we have a child I won't be able to let the other Bella's out to play as much," Bella said thoughtfully.

"Other Bella's?" Harry asked in confusion.

"Yes, Angry Bella, Baby Bella, Cranky Bella, and smart Bella," Bellatrix explained with a grin.

" You forgot naughty Bella," Harry pointed out.

"Oh she's not going anywhere, Harry," Bellatrix said firmly.

"Good, say just out of curiosity, do you still have your old Hogwarts uniform?" Harry asked casually.

"Maybe, I think there is one in my old school trunk at Grimmauld Place, why do you ask?" Bellatrix asked him curiously.

"Oh, just a thought I had," Harry answered with a far off look in his eye.

Number Twelve Grimmauld Place, London, 7/25/1982, 14:58

Harry had snuck over to Grimmauld place while Bellatrix was visiting with Narcissa, after hearing about the blood curse that affected the Greengrass family, he had been looking for any references to blood curses and seeing if there was any way to break them.

The common consensus was that whatever family placed the curse on another had to be the one to lift it.

There was an interesting theory by Lycoris Black who had left a journal in the Black library, she theorized that one could use the blood of the family that placed the curse and offer up their family line as a sacrifice in a ritual to break the blood curse.

This idea had some merit as there was only one person left in the LeStrange family and he was planning on killing him anyway so using Randolph as a human sacrifice didn't seem like much of a difference. He would have to let the Black sisters have a look at this and see what they thought.

In other news Harry had recently started up his physical training again, after quite a few months of slacking off the training was quite taxing on his body and he was regretting his laziness right now his legs felt like lead and his eyelids were starting to feel heavy.

He had been here since lunch and originally only came over here to pick up Bella's old school trunk which was shrunk down in his pocket, as he passed the library on his way out of the house he had an epiphany, and decided to research blood curses while he was here.

Harry's breathing slowed as he shut his eyes and started leaning back enjoying the coolness of the room, maybe a nice nap was in order.

Harry was just starting to doze off on the comfy leather couch when the door opened and Sirius came in carrying little Harry in his arms.

"Get in a fight with my cousin or something?" Sirius asked upon noticing him sprawled out on the couch.

"No, she's off with Cissa, I needed to use the library," Harry said sleepily.

"It Looked like you were taking a nap," Sirius said with a smirk as he set little Harry on the floor and handed him a toy broomstick.

"I started doing my physical training again, it's exhausting," Harry said with a shrug as he watched his younger self zoom around on the toy broomstick.

"I need to start exercising a bit myself, Azkaban did a number on my stamina," Sirius said thoughtfully.

"I remember reading a letter my mum wrote to you and it mentioned you bought me one of them for my first birthday," Harry said pointing at the toy broom little Harry was zooming around on.

Yeah, that one was destroyed when... anyway I bought him another one the other day, he absolutely loves it," Sirius said watching the toddler weave around the furniture.

"Just wait until you see what he can do on a real broom," Harry said with a mischievous grin.

Not bloody likely, I remember how insane James was on a broomstick, "Sirius said shuddering at the thought of little Harry flying anything like his father used to.

"Did you know in my third year you bought me a world cup standard racing broom?" Harry asked surprised at how responsible Sirius was sounding.

"No, but you did say I spent over a decade with the dementors," Sirius pointed out.

"Yeah, but they didn't mess you up too bad," Harry said.

"Shows what you know, only a nutter would buy a thirteen year old a professional standard broomstick, bet it made you look like an ostentatious bastard when all the other players on the school teams flew Comets," Sirius pointed out.

That's not true, Lucius Malfoy bought the whole Slytherin team high-end brooms so Draco would make the team" Harry argued.

"Lucius Malfoy is, or should I say was the king of ostentatious bastards, the fact that you showed up with an even better broom than his ponce son just proves my point," Sirius exclaimed with a smirk.

"Tonks is right you really are a wanker," Harry said feeling a bit unhappy that Sirius made such a good point.

"The Tonks from your timeline called me a wanker?" Sirius asked curiously.

"I'm sure she did at some point but I actually meant the one from this one," Harry said enjoying the look on Sirius' face at this revelation.

"I knew you were corrupting my little cousin," Sirius accused.

Harry flicked his wand at the door distractedly a second before his younger self could zoom into the hallway on his toy broom. "I always did have a knack for getting into trouble," Harry said amusedly as little Harry hit the door and tumbled onto the carpet.

"Good save, he would have been a nightmare to find in this house," Sirius said looking very relieved.

"Yeah and imagine flying one of those things down a staircase it would be like diving for the snitch," Harry said thoughtfully making Sirius pale at the thought.

"Now you're just doing that to mess with me," Sirius said noticing Harry's amusement.

"Maybe a little, so how are things with you and Bones?" Harry asked curiously.

"Going well enough, she's helping me plan Harry's birthday party next Saturday," Sirius said with a grin.

"Oh, that's good, that kind of makes me wonder when I turned twenty five," Harry said thoughtfully.

"What do you mean?" Sirius asked in confusion.

"I was transported back on the twenty first of June a little over a month from my birthday and arrived on the twenty first of March so my birthday could technically be towards the end of April now," Harry said still mulling it over.

"Your birthday is the day you were born," Sirius argued.

"Yeah, but a birthday signifies your age, you add one year to your age every year on your birthday, so if I went by the actual day I was born I would be three months older than my birthday says I should be," Harry explained.

"Whatever, the party isn't for you anyway," Sirius said looking more than a little confused.

"I hope I didn't overload your brain," Harry said with a smirk.

"As if, I have a mind like a steel trap," Sirius exclaimed.

"Right, you never did tell me why you:re here," Harry said changing the subject.

"Oh, I need to get the heir and Lords ring from my father's study, I talked to my grandfather and he gave me his blessing to take up the lordship of house Black," Sirius explained.

" I thought he took up the lordship?" Harry asked in surprise.

"No, after my father died my grandfather just took over the duties as head of house, the lordship was unclaimed until today," Sirius explained as he walked over to a bare stretch of the wall directly across from the door and pressed his palm to it.

Harry watched as a thin white line raced up the wall, halfway up it made a ninety degree turn travelled a couple of feet and made another ninety degree turn heading straight down, when the line hit the floor the wall inside the line shimmered and turned into a very intricately decorated door with the black crest meticulously carved into its centre.

"Alright that was pretty neat," Harry said impressed at the power of the illusion.

"Only someone of Black blood can unlock the illusion," Sirius said with a shrug before pushing the door open and stepping inside.

As curious as Harry was about that room he knew that it was none of his business so he used the time Sirius was gone to watch little Harry fly around on his toy broom.

"Sirius stepped out a few minutes later admiring the Black family lords ring on the index finger of his right hand.

" So does this mean you will be attending Wizengamot meetings?" Harry asked curiously.

"No, I need the lordship to ensure Dumbledore doesn't try and find a way to force me to send Harry back to his aunt's house one month a year," Sirius said with a scowl.

"He's still trying to keep those damn blood wards up," Harry asked incredulously

"Yeah, he's obsessed with them, he's been bugging me about it since I picked Harry up," Sirius said with a shake of his head.

"Dumbledore is a good man and he really does mean well but he has a tendency to meddle in other peoples affairs," Harry said with a shrug.

"You don't have to tell me," Sirius exclaimed.

"Speaking of Dumbledore have you asked him about my dad's cloak?" Harry asked hopefully.

"Yeah, I already got that back from him, I'll let Harry have it when he turns thirteen," Sirius said watching little Harry curled up on the floor taking a nap.

"Good, I might need to borrow it to sneak into Hogwarts soon," Harry said watching his younger self sleep.

"Why do you need to sneak into Hogwarts?" Sirius asked.

"To retrieve a very valuable artefact," Harry answered evasively.

"Alright but I'm coming with you, I always love a good adventure," Sirius said.

"Fine, you might come in handy if I need a distraction in the chamber of secrets," Harry said thoughtfully.

"Didn't you say there was a basilisk down there?" Sirius asked looking wary.

"Yes, but it's sleeping, I only need to go down there to seal the tunnel leading into the school off," Harry explained.

"So you're not going to kill the snake?" Sirius asked sounding relieved.

"No, it would be too dangerous and it's not hurting anyone, there is a tunnel that leads from its nest to the forest so it can feed, come to think of it I hope it gets hungry soon the forest is infested with acromantula," Harry said thoughtfully.

"Yeah, we ran into the colony in our fourth year," Sirius said shivering at the memory.

Harry stretched and took a minute to glance at his watch before standing up, " I have to run Padfoot, you should bring him by sometime to play at the beach."

"I will, let me know when you want to sneak into the castle," Sirius said.

.Alright, keep mini-me out of trouble," Harry said with a grin as he walked out the door.

Harry made it to the fireplace and tossed some floo powder in, today had been much more productive than he expected. Harry pushed his hands in his pocket and ran his thumb over Lycoris' diary as he stepped into the floo.

Peverell Beach House, 7/27/1982, 14:38

Harry sat in the sitting room going over his research for the latest task Narcissa had given him.

He now knew quite a bit about Lord LeStrange, he had scouted the manor out and tested the wards. Bellatrix's wedding ring easily allowed him to cross the property lines so getting in was no trouble at all.

0he had also been watching the man through a telescope of the evening trying to get a rough idea of the man's routine, truthfully he could have already put his plan into action if it wasn't for what he read in Lycoris' journal.

Narcissa had taken the journal and was currently trying to determine if Lycoris Black was right in her hypothesis, if she was then Harry would have to kidnap Lord LeStrange which would complicate the mission slightly.

Kidnapping wasn't something he normally did but if Narcissa believes the ritual referenced in the journal will work then he would go into the kidnapping business.

He had also spent a few hours this morning setting up a surprise for Bellatrix, he had changed one of the guest rooms to look like a teachers office, hopefully, Bellatrix would enjoy a bit more roleplaying.

"Wotcher Harry?" Tonks' voice cut into his thoughts.

"Hey Tonks, where is your mother?" Harry asked as Tonks took a seat in the armchair across from him.

"She sent me over here because I was being a nuisance," Tonks said.

"Really, what did you do?" Harry asked curiously.

"I tripped on the carpet and knocked over her vase," Tonks explained.

"So she sent you here to break my stuff," Harry exclaimed.

"Hey, I didn't do it on purpose," Tonks protested.

"Of course you didn't," Harry said disbelievingly.

"Can we go down to the beach?" Tonks asked.

"It's raining," Harry pointed out making the girl look out the window and pout.

"It wasn't raining at home," Tonks said grumpily.

"Then stop breaking vases," Harry said with a smirk.

"I'm back," Bellatrix's voice rang out from the kitchen.

"In here," Harry called out.

"Is Andy here?" Bellatrix asked when she saw Tonks sprawled across an armchair.

"No, she sent her here because she broke your sister's vase," Harry explained.

"So it's fine if she breaks our stuff?" Bellatrix asked incredulously.

"I'm not breaking anything," Tonks protested.

"Mind your manners," Bellatrix said dismissively making Tonks scowl.

"So what did Narcissa say?" Harry asked.

"She needs to run it by a friend but she believes it will work," Bellatrix said as she took a seat beside Harry.

Can we play a game?" Tonks asked

"How about shut mouth?" Bellatrix suggested.

"No, I hate that game mum always makes me play that when her soap operas come on," Tonks exclaimed.

Hide and seek?" Harry offered.

"Will you actually look for me when I hide," Tonks asked suspiciously.

"No, probably not, "Bellatrix answered with a smirk.

Alright fine, how about exploding snap?" Harry asked.

"Okay," Tonks said excitedly and ran over to the shelf Harry kept the deck of snap cards.

The three of them played exploding snap for the rest of the afternoon until Andy showed up to pick up Tonks and apologise very insincerely for sending her daughter over without asking them first.

Bellatrix nervously made her way down the hall, she was wearing a white button-up long sleeve shirt with a green and silver striped tie, a plaid knee-length skirt, and mary janes with knee-high white socks to complete her old school uniform.

She had gone up to her room to retrieve a book she had been reading when she found the clothes folded at the end of the bed with a note on top which read.

Bellatrix,

Please put these on and meet me in the third bedroom on the right side of the hall.

Sincerely ,

Headmaster Harry Peverell

Bellatrix had eagerly done as the letter instructed and made her way to the bedroom it specified, when she arrived in front of the door she's noticed a placard affixed to the door.

Professor H.J Peverell,

Headmaster of Spankbottoms Institute for Naughty Girls

Bellatrix felt her excitement build and knocked tentatively on the door.

"Enter," called a stern male voice from inside.

Bellatrix's breath hitched as she opened the door and stepped inside.

"Ah, Ms Black I'm glad you could finally make it here," Harry said in his sternest professors voice.

Bellatrix looked around the room, this looked like a school teachers office, with bookshelves along one of the walls, a set of wooden file cabinets on the wall behind Harry, and a large desk that Harry was currently seated behind it looking very annoyed.

"Now Miss Black we have been over this many times before, you cannot say the word mudblood within the walls of this school," Harry chastised.

"I'm so sorry professor, Bella really didn't mean to," Bellatrix pouted in a little girlish voice.

"You never mean to and I've spanked you until my hand is sore so we are going to have to take more drastic action," Harry said regretfully.

"Please don't Professor," Bellatrix begged as she rubbed her thighs together as discreetly as possible.

"I'm sorry but it's the only way to get my message across," Harry said sadly as he reached into the drawer of his desk and removed a wooden paddle.

"Please don't Professor, I promise I'll behave" Bellatrix begged.

I'm sorry Ms Black, please assume the position," Harry instructed.

Bellatrix walked slowly around his desk before laying herself across his lap.

'Role-playing is amazing,' Harry thought as he flipped her skirt up and prepared to administer the punishment, for her own good of course.
