Chereads / A BLACK MOON KNIGHT / Chapter 15 - SECRETS AND TENSION

Chapter 15 - SECRETS AND TENSION

Evan was in Sara's room, staring at the ceiling and mulling over the recent events. His phone buzzed, breaking his chain of thoughts. It was Jaxon.

"Hey, Evan. You won't believe this, but Alex found something," Jaxon said, his voice filled with excitement.

Evan sat up, his heart racing. "Really? That's amazing! Did he say anything about it?"

Jaxon chuckled. "Not much. He said he'll tell us everything when we meet."

Evan couldn't hide his excitement. "Are you guys coming over right now?"

Jaxon's tone turned serious. "No, we can't meet here. We need to keep this secret and make sure no one knows anything about it."

Evan realized his excitement had made him forget about the need for caution. "Right, you're absolutely right. How and where should we meet?"

"There's a café downtown called 'Luna's Haven.' Let's meet there," Jaxon suggested.

"That sounds good. But considering the situation with Sara's family, they might not allow me to go out alone," Evan said, suddenly remembering the family dynamics and their protective nature.

Jaxon sighed. "Yeah, I was worried about that too. They've been very cautious since the accident."

Evan thought for a moment. "Why don't you come and pick me up?"

Jaxon agreed. "Alright, I'll be there in a few hours. Just be ready."

A few hours later, Jaxon arrived and waited in his car outside. Evan took a deep breath, ready to leave the house, but as he crossed the door, Mr. Thompson called out to him.

"Sara, where are you going?" Mr. Thompson asked, curiosity evident in his voice.

Evan quickly thought of an excuse. "Jaxon is here. We planned to hang out today and see the city."

Mr. Thompson looked a bit confused. "You're going with Jaxon?"

Evan nodded. "Yes, Dad. We just thought it'd be fun."

Just then, Adison appeared from outside. "Sara, going somewhere?" he asked, noticing Evan at the door. "And why is Jaxon waiting outside? Why isn't he coming in?"

Mr. Thompson answered for Evan. "They're going together to look around the city."

Adison's smile didn't reach his eyes. "Why didn't you tell me you wanted to go out and explore, Sara? Why bother Jaxon?"

Evan quickly responded, "We planned it suddenly, and I didn't get the time to inform you."

Adison's expression turned into a forced smile. "That sounds great."

Evan sighed, hoping to end the conversation. "Can we go now? We've got places to visit."

Adison suddenly said, "I'll come with you. I can't let you go alone with someone."

Evan's face hardened at Adison's words. "Who are you calling 'someone'? Jaxon is not just anyone; he's my friend."

Adison's smile was tight. "Fine, but I'll go with you both."

Evan's frustration grew. "You can't come with us, Adison. We planned this together, and it's supposed to be our time."

Adison remained calm. "I won't ruin your plans. But for your safety, I need to go."

Evan was stunned by Adison's words. "What do you mean by 'for my safety'? I'm not a kid. I'm safer with Jaxon than with you."

Adison looked at Mr. Thompson and said, "Sara feels safe with Jaxon, but we don't feel the same way. We've only known Jaxon for a short while, and we can't trust him easily."

Mr. Thompson's worry was evident. "Adison is right, Sara. We can't let you go with him alone."

Evan was about to argue further, unable to take any more disparaging words about his brother, but before he could speak, Adison said, "Right, Mr. Thompson? We can't trust Jaxon yet."

Evan's anger boiled over, and he called out, "Adison!" loud enough for everyone to hear.

Mr. Thompson stepped in. "That's enough. Adison is right. If you want to go out, Adison will go with you."

Just then, Jaxon entered, having heard Evan's raised voice. "Is everything alright?"

Evan, still seething with anger, replied, "Nothing is alright."

He stormed outside, leaving Jaxon confused and worried. Adison smiled triumphantly and said to Jaxon, "I'll be right back."

Finally understanding the situation, Jaxon sighed and followed Evan outside. They got into the car, with Jaxon driving and Evan silently fuming in the passenger seat.

As they drove, Evan spotted someone on the sidewalk and suddenly exclaimed, "Is that Yoona?"

Jaxon immediately stopped the car. When they looked back, there was no one there. Adison, who had been watching from the back seat, said, "There's no one. Maybe it was just your imagination, Sara."

Jaxon was about to say something, but Adison interrupted, "We shouldn't stop like this in the middle of the road. Let's keep moving."

Evan, still filled with anger and confusion, nodded silently.

The rest of the day was spent driving around the city, exploring various sights. Because of Adison, they couldn't go to the café. Instead, they decided to visit an amusement park to ease the tension. As they walked through the park, Jaxon suddenly suggested, "Hey, how about we check out the ghost house? I hear it's really scary."

Evan caught on to Jaxon's intention immediately. "That sounds like fun! What do you think, Adison?"

Adison shrugged. "Sure, why not."

They entered the ghost house, which was designed like a haunted maze. Other visitors were also there, making the experience more thrilling. The objective was to find a way out while encountering various spooky elements. Actors dressed as ghosts and monsters popped out to scare them, adding to the excitement.

As they ventured deeper into the house, the rooms became darker and scarier. The screams and laughter of other visitors echoed through the hallways, adding to the eerie atmosphere. Adison tried to stay close, but as they passed through a particularly frightening section, the chaos caused them to lose sight of each other.

Evan and Jaxon took the opportunity to slip away unnoticed. They navigated through the maze, finding an exit that led them out of the ghost house. Once outside, they took deep breaths, relieved to be free from Adison's watchful eyes.

Evan leaned against a wall, frustrated. "I can't believe Adison is acting like this. He's so controlling and overbearing. It's driving me crazy."

Jaxon nodded in agreement. "I know. But at least we're out of there now. We need to meet Alex and find out what he discovered."

Evan clenched his fists, his anger simmering. "I can't stand Adison's behavior. He's constantly trying to manipulate and control everything. It's infuriating."

Jaxon placed a hand on Evan's shoulder. "We'll figure this out, Evan. Let's focus on finding the truth and getting through this."

Evan took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. "You're right. We have to stay strong and focused. Let's go meet Alex and see what he found."

They hurriedly made their way to the café. When they arrived, they saw Alex waiting for them.

"Hey guys, how are you?" Alex greeted, but Jaxon cut him off.

"No time for pleasantries, Alex. We don't have much time. If Adison finds out we're not at the amusement park, he'll make a scene," Jaxon said urgently.

Alex chuckled. "Relax, guys. Chill out."

Evan leaned forward, his urgency clear. "Alex, what did you find out?"

Alex took a deep breath and began to explain. "I've been researching a rare phenomenon known as the Black Moon Night. On this night, the moon appears black, which only happens rarely. During this time, strange things occur—phenomena that can't be easily explained."

Evan listened intently, intrigued. "Go on."

Alex continued, "In your case, something extraordinary happened. Somehow, your soul was exchanged with that of a girl. This type of soul exchange is incredibly rare and almost impossible to control."

Evan's eyes widened. "So my soul is in this girl's body. But what about my own body? What happened to me?"

Alex nodded. "Your body is still alive, but it's in a coma. The girl's soul is currently inhabiting your body, which is why it's still functioning."

Evan felt a mix of relief and confusion. "So she's in my body, and I'm in hers. How do we reverse this? How do we get back to our own bodies?"

Alex looked thoughtful. "Reversing the exchange is extremely difficult, especially since it involves forces we don't fully understand. But the first step is to understand the conditions under which the exchange happened. The Black Moon Night is key to figuring this out."

Jaxon glanced at Evan. "So we need to wait for another Black Moon Night? How long will that take?"

Alex shook his head. "It's not that simple. The next Black Moon Night might not happen for years, or it could happen sooner. We need to be prepared and stay vigilant."
