Chapter 18 - FOLLOWING SHADOWS

The decision was made: Evan and Jaxon would discreetly follow Adison and Yoona to uncover whatever they were hiding. The next few days were spent meticulously planning their moves, ensuring they would not be detected.

One morning, Evan received a text from Jaxon: *I've got eyes on Adison. He's leaving the house. Meet me at the corner of Elm and Maple.*

Evan quickly replied: *On my way.*

Evan made his way to the rendezvous point, his heart pounding with anticipation. When he arrived, Jaxon was already there, keeping a close watch on Adison, who was getting into his car.

"Ready?" Jaxon asked.

Evan nodded, determination etched on his face. "Let's do this."

They followed Adison at a safe distance, making sure to keep out of sight. Adison drove through the city, and after crossing various paths, they found themselves heading toward a familiar area. As they neared their destination, realization dawned on Evan.

"Are they going to the hospital?" Evan asked, his voice filled with surprise.

Jaxon nodded. "Looks like it. I had a feeling."

They continued to follow, keeping a low profile. Once they reached the hospital, they watched as Yoona got out of the car and went inside, while Adison drove away.

Jaxon turned to Evan. "Should we follow Adison?"

Evan shook his head. "No, let's focus on Yoona. Go inside and see what she's up to."

Jaxon hesitated. "What about Adison?"

At that moment, Evan's phone rang. He glanced at the screen and saw Adison's name. He took a deep breath and answered the call. "Hey, honey," Adison's voice came through the line. "I'll be home soon. Do you need anything?"

Evan forced a calm tone. "No, take your time. I'm fine."

As he ended the call, Evan turned to Jaxon. "Adison's on his way home. We've got some time. Go inside and see what Yoona is doing. I need to know everything."

Jaxon nodded. "Alright. I'm on it."

He quickly made his way inside the hospital, navigating through the corridors while keeping an eye out for Yoona. He finally spotted her near the ICU, heading into the room where Evan's body lay in a coma. Jaxon decided to wait for a moment, observing what Yoona would do.

As Yoona was about to leave the room, Jaxon hurriedly opened the door, startling her. "Surprised?" he smirked.

Yoona looked shocked and scared. "Jaxon, what are you doing here?"

Jaxon leaned against the doorframe, his eyes fixed on her. "I could ask you the same thing. Where have you been? Why haven't you come to see Evan when he means everything to you?"

Yoona fumbled for an excuse. "I... I have my own reasons."

Jaxon raised an eyebrow. "Your reasons must be pretty important if they're keeping you away from Evan."

Yoona's expression hardened. "It's not your matter to know, Jaxon."

Jaxon's tone grew more serious. "We're the McMullins, Yoona. Well-known across the country. Everyone knows Evan is in a coma. Millions of people are trying to see him, but they can't. But you, you're the love of Evan's life. He loves you more than anything.

Yoona about to say something, But jaxon stopped her, Don't you know Evan was about to propose to you before all this happened?"

Yoona's eyes widened in shock. "Seriously? Evan was about to propose to me?"

Jaxon nodded. "Am I lying?"

Tears streamed down Yoona's face. "I didn't know anything about this. I had no idea."

Jaxon's expression remained stern. "You mean everything to Evan, but it seems he means nothing to you."

Yoona wiped her tears, her voice trembling. "I love him, Jaxon. But there are things you don't understand. I'm doing this for a reason."

Jaxon's tone grew cold. "Whatever you're thinking, it's not going to work on us. If everything goes back to normal, your relationship will never be the same."

Yoona's resolve wavered as she nodded. "I'll try. But please, understand."

Jaxon stepped aside, allowing Yoona to leave. As she walked away, tears streamed down her face. "I'll make everything okay, Jaxon. I promise."

Jaxon watched her leave, feeling a mix of frustration and determination. He called after her, "And Yoona, don't confront our parents. It won't be good for you. You can leave now."

Yoona nodded, wiping her tears as she exited the room.

Jaxon pulled out his phone and called Evan.

"She was in your room, but she wouldn't give me a straight answer. She said she has her reasons, but it's clear she's hiding something. She was also surprised to learn that you were about to propose," Jaxon reported.

Evan's mind raced with possibilities. "We need to find out what those reasons are. Keep an eye on her, Jaxon."

Jaxon nodded. "Got it. I'll keep you updated."

As Jaxon ended the call
