Linda's POV
Stories of the past were preserved in the ancient estate's shattered windows and decaying walls, which loomed in the faint morning light. Kevin and I stood with the clue box under my arm in front of the once-grand entryway.
"We may not have another opportunity," Kevin replied, looking at me. "Are you prepared?"
Despite my heart thumping, I nodded. "We must be aware of the truth."
The massive door creaked open as Kevin pulled it open, and we entered. The hardwood floor creaked beneath us, and dust hung in the air. Although the home had a rotten stench, there was an odd energy about it, as if the walls were holding their breath.
My voice echoed as I remarked, "This place is huge." "How do we even begin?"
Kevin gestured toward the stairwell. "Shadows are sleeping here," the letter said. We should examine the top levels. Perhaps there is a secret chamber or something.
