Ethan pulled into the driveway, parking the car as the twins excitedly unbuckled their seatbelts. Isla was the first to hop out, looking around with a frown.
"Mommy we're back!" she screamed, running to the door.
Leo scrunched his nose. "Maybe she's sleeping? Why doesn't she answer?"
Ethan glanced at the house, something unsettled gnawing at him. Ever wasn't the type to leave without telling him, especially knowing the twins were coming home today. He took out his phone and called her.
No answer.
He tried again. This time, after a few rings, a groggy voice answered.
"…Hello?"
Ethan's brows furrowed. "Ever? Where are you?"
Ever blinked at the sunlight streaming through the large windows, her body still sluggish from deep sleep. She stretched, feeling an odd sense of peace until her brain registered Ethan's voice.
