Chapter 41 - The Morning Assembly

"WHAT?" Heather yelled loudly when I finished telling her my story.

She had come to dress me up for the morning assembly when I told her everything that had transpired between me and Reagan last night. Heather looked pale as a ghost, with her mouth hung open as her hands froze midair from where she was helping me with my hair.

"So what's going to happen now? Do you tell him or what?"

"Of course I can't tell him!" I said shutting down the idea immediately, "Reagan wouldn't hesitate to hand me over to my father."

Heather heaved out a sigh, "What do we do now? I mean you couldn't even tell him about his uncle?"

Yeah, about that... "I didn't." I said startling Heather, "And I do not think I'll be telling Reagan about that." I confessed

"WHAT?" Heather yelled loudly again, the sound going to my ears. I shot her a glare to which she quickly apologized at, "But why didn't you tell him?"

"Because things got so escalated quickly I do not even know where to start from," I rushed out, "From him finding out I wasn't in the room, to him almost finding out my secret and to him…." I trailed off remembering the way he had almost compared me to my father. It's already getting close to a month that we've spent with each other and yet, he thinks I was just as selfish as my father.

Shaking my head, I pushed the thoughts away. "I just don't think I'll be telling him anything." I confessed.

"So what's going to happen? Lord Skarde goes free? Continues to terrorize people?" Heather asked me and I could hear the disappointment in her tone.

Heaving out a sigh, I raised my eyes up to meet Heather's in the mirror. "I didn't say it, I guess I will just be handling things my own way." I told her, watching as her face crumpled with relief, "It might just be a little slow is all." I mumbled under my breath.

Heather didn't seem to mind that, she patted me on my shoulders. "It doesn't matter as long as you are doing what you can." She said resuming to plait my hair while intertwining it with beautiful string pearls. "I'll go ask around about the family you said you saw and get in contact with them." She informed me.

I nodded my head at her in appreciation. "Thank you very much."

"Sure, whatever you need, I'm here for it." Heather said shooting me a warm smile which I returned. "Let's just try and get through today and we will figure out the next step from here." Heather said and begin pinning the braid she twisted upon my hair.

When she was done, she adjusted my makeup and then stood aside for me. She smiled at my work and then deemed me ready to go. I offered a small smile and then decided to head to the assembly before Marina decided she has had enough of waiting and sends a guard to come and get me.

There was nothing much to be said in the assembly. Everyone came by and discussed everything that was going on and even though I found most of it boring but there were lot of progress that were made. Miguel was surprisingly handling issues of the western provinces well and according to him they were beginning to welcome the idea he had of giving the king some more time.

I sat down and listened silently observing. But throughout the entire moment, I could feel Reagan's eyes on mine. He stared at me and when I didn't return his gaze, he would look away from me. Only for a brief moment though, it was back not quite long.

I knew it was driving him insane with the way I wasn't looking at him and even though I could feel the heat creeping up my neck, I kept my posture composed as if it didn't bother me and I was using all my will power not to squirm under the intensity of his gaze.

Just as a man was living after giving reports, Reagan turned to look at me just then at that moment. "Dahlia can we talk?"

"What about?" I asked without looking at him and I kept a smile on my face so as to not cause any suspicion.

Reagan heaved out a sigh, "You know what? You kicked me out of your room and_"

Whatever Reagan was about to say seemed to be interrupted because the doors suddenly swung open and Celeste entered. I frowned just as Reagan sat up straight in his seat. Everyone turned their gaze to the new guest who had interrupted the assembly.

Celeste strolled in with a look of defiance on her face. She was clad in a red gown that hugged her figures and her shiny blonde hair tumbled down in waves as she walked, heading straight for where Reagan and I sat.

"My lord we need to talk!" Celeste stated, not even bothering to spare me a glance.

I looked around wondering why no one was trying to object to her disrupting of the assembly but no one seemed to care. If anything they all watched with curiosity as to what's going to happen.

"We can discuss sometime later Celeste, not now!" Reagan said firmly with an air of authority.

Celeste snorted, "Yeah except there isn't time later, because you stuck here with her, even when I said I wanted to see you last night." She turned her look to me and I just shrugged.

I mean don't look at me like that, I chased him out of my room last night, it's not my fault he didn't come to yours.! I thought to myself.

Reagan drew in a deep breath, pinching the bridge of his nose which was a clear sign of how frustrated he was. "Listen to me Celeste, this is neither the place nor the time, now get out!" He snarled at her and I almost felt bad for Celeste at the way Reagan dismissed her and I would have if it weren't for the words she spoke next.

"I am carrying your heir!"
