The garden was quiet as I sat down on the edge of the river bank. Everywhere was quiet and the only sound I could hear was the melodious sounds of the birds that visited the garden frequently and the quacks of ducks that were on the river. The serene was beautiful and it was peaceful, it was why I ran out here in the first place, it was the only place that I could hide and listen to my own thoughts.
Ever since Celeste announces that she was pregnant, it was all everyone could talk about in the house. I couldn't even take one step with anyone announcing the Hawthorne family will finally have its first grandson. Servants spoke about it, not in hushed whispers like they were truly excited for her and Reagan. And even if the servants didn't want to talk about it, Celeste was doing anything to make sure people know of the news.
She has been prancing along the corridor and hallways where she knew people would be walking around the most and she started doing silly things like chores. The other day she began lifting baskets from the ground, then complain about her back and this morning, she tried to get down the stairs but couldn't, saying she felt so heavy.
It was on the tip of my tongue to tell her it wasn't even a month yet and if she was acting this way now, how would she act when she finally start showing? So before I do something stupid like yell at her, I decided to come here, to find my inner peace and to also avoid Reagan.
He has been trying to talk to me but I just didn't want to talk to him. Not right now when I was barely holding it together!
Drawing in a deep breath, I sat by the lake, relaxing when all of a sudden I heard footsteps. I whirled around quickly only to see Killian walking towards me with a guilty look on his face.
He raised his hands up and it was then I noticed one hand was busy holding two cups and the other hand was busy holding a bottle of wine. "Relax, it's just me!"
I frowned at him, "What do you want?"
"May I sit?" Killian asked me with a wary tone.
No, I am not in the mood for company! Was on the tip of my tongue to say but I found myself nodding my head. "Yes." I said before I turned to look back at the lake.
From the corner of my eye I could make out Killian carefully sitting down on the grass beside me. He unscrewed the bottle of wine and begin to pour it inside the empty cup.
"Drinking wine when it's just ten in the morning?" I asked with raised brows, "Marina would be so disappointed."
"Well," Killian said pouring more wine into our cups, "What Marina doesn't know wouldn't kill her, now drink up!" Killian handed me a cup which I accepted but didn't drink it.
Instead, I stared back at the lake while holding my cup in one hand.
Killian seemed to sense I didn't want to talk so he kept quiet and sipped on his wine while staring out into nothing with me. When the silence was beginning to stretch, Killian cleared his throat. "I'm sorry," He apologized, "I was actually rooting for the both of you."
Smiling softly, I finally downed my drink. "Yeah well…" I trialed off with a shrug as I continued to stare at the river.
"So you haven't spoken with Reagan ever since?" Killian asked me.
I shook my head at him, "I do not want to speak to Reagan or speak of him."
"Noted!" Killian whispered and for a minute he was quiet, just a minute though, "Why don't you want to speak to him though? I feel like you should actually hear his side of his story."
"Killian!" I groaned shaking my head.
So much for having some peace and quiet! "The truth, is that I actually did hear his side of his story and let's just say, it didn't go to well."
"Obviously." Killian said under his breath but I glared at him, "But you do know you are not really hiding right? He could come find you if he wants to and besides, its not like you can avoid him forever. His birthday celebration is in a few days."
Yeah, I knew that but I knew he wouldn't and some part of me loved that he was actually giving me that respect. "He wouldn't, Reagan has a thing about honor. He will honor my wishes and will speak to me when I'm ready."
Killian heaved out a sigh, "Yeah well for what it's worth, I'm sorry again."
"Don't be." I said finally turning to look at him with a smile on my face, "Tis a joyous news after all." I said smiling but Killian gazed at me with a look of pity on his face, almost as if he didn't believe me.
But that was his problem, I don't care. It was a joyous news and I meant what I said about it earlier. I was about to turn back to the lake when I suddenly caught sight of Heather walking towards me. Immediately she saw that I wasn't alone, she halted her steps.
"I'm sorry, but it appears I would have to take my leave now." I announced.
Killian turned to look over at where Heather was standing by the trees. "Ah, I see." He said before turning to look at me, "Alright, I guess I will be seeing you at Reagan's birthday celebration!"
I doubt that but still I nodded my head at him, "Of course, now if you will excuse me," I stood up from the lake and begin to walk towards Heather who had already began meeting me halfway.
"I already found out where they are being hidden." Heather's voice dropped into a whisper as she fell into steps right next to me, "I've also prepared everything needed for tonight!"
I nodded my head, "Good, this is good."
Finally some distraction that I could deal with!
