Chapter 39 - How Much?

After I made my way out safely without being seen out of Lord Skarde's residence safely, I went back on to my horse that was hidden deep inside the forest and I rode out of the place, heading straight to the manor. I met Heather waiting for me at the entrance of the secret passageway but she didn't see me because when I touched her, she released a loud scream.

I immediately grabbed her mouth. "For fuck's sake Heather!" I growled at her.

Heather smiled sheepishly at me, "I'm so sorry milady." She apologized, her eyes raking up and down my body, "It's just that it is going to take a while before I get used to seeing you like this!"

I suppose that was understandable! I thought to myself as we entered the passage way. I began taking off my clothes in front of her. Heather turned to give me the privacy I needed and I quickly shuffled out of my clothing and changed into the creamy strapless night dress she had gotten from my wardrobe along with a red cloak.

"Turns out Lord Skarze is one evil bastard after all!" I said as I begin to tie the lace around my cloak.

Heather seemed pleased to hear that, "Really?" She asked and I could hear the excitement in her tone.

"Yeah, really!" I said taking off my boots to exchange for sandals, "Turns out he took a boy out of a family because they couldn't pay taxes."

"So we are going to stop him right?" Heather asked me still feeling excited.

"We_" I corrected as I handed her the boots, "We are not going to do anything but we are still going to be doing something!" I informed her.

Nodding her head, Heather helped in cleaning up. Stuffing my costume into a bag she had found along with some of my weapons. "What are we now going to do?"

"I still plan on letting Reagan know everything, what I'm going to say I do not yet. Good thing I have all night to think about it right?"

Heather didn't seem concerned as she stepped closer to me, "And then, what else?"

"You are going to need to meet up with the victims for me. Perhaps if witnesses can come out, then we can save the rest that were imprisoned." I said and Heather nodded her head with conviction.

"That is a good idea." She said as she smiled at me, "We do have to hurry though."

Heaving out a sigh, I turned and walked out of the secret passageway, "Yeah, I know. Time isn't on our side."

"Right, but you are doing everything you can so don't be too hard on yourself." Heather said with a smile, before she reached out to me and pulled me in for a quick hug.

Smiling, I hugged her back before she eased away from me. Even though I was worried and a little afraid that time when she found out about my secret, it does feel good to have an ally! I thought to myself as I watched Heather carefully creep to the quarters even though no one was probably up at that time.

Shaking my head, I turned away from Heather, I headed towards my bedroom. I soon got there and pushing the door open. The faint light from the full moon which was filtering through the window illuminated my bedroom, illuminating the familiar space only a little bit. I turned and leaned against the door to catch my breath when all of a sudden bright light flooded the room and sitting on my bed was a man I didn't think I would be seeing so soon.

My husband, Reagan!

"Reagan!" I breathed out, voice tinged in disbelief as my eyes widened in fear.

Reagan stared at me, with a blank look on his face. "Where were you?"

Shit, think fast! I thought to myself as I stared at Reagan.

I checked the library and you weren't there, which means you went out." Reagan said still looking at me, "So, where have you been?" '

I swallowed, hoping he couldn't see the fear on my face. This was it, this was the very moment I've been dreading, he was going to find out about it. The secrets I've been keeping from him. What is going to do? Kill me? Send me back to my father? No, I'd rather he kills me than send me back to father, or actually I will just do the killing myself!

"Dahlia?" Reagan's voice brought me out of my thoughts, "Where have you been?"

"I….I couldn't sleep." I said with a wry smile, "So I went out to come with me."

"You couldn't sleep?" Reagan asked as he rose up from his seat.

I nodded my head, hoping he couldn't hear the thumping in my chest. "Yes my lord, I took Heather with me too and I just sent her in." I lied through my teeth, although there were a bit of truth in them so it didn't exactly count as a lie. "I didn't know you would be arriving early though!" I said trying to shift the conversation away from me.

Reagan grinned at me. "I had to hurry back home, because I missed you." He stated and before I could question it, Reagan grabbed me by my waist, twirling me in the air.

A burst of laughter escaped me as I stared down at Reagan who immediately set me down. He had a huge smile on his face on his face before he pulled me in for a hug, "Oh gods, I've missed you."

I didn't hesitate to hug him back, my hands moving to wrap around him, holding him tightly to me. His warmth felt like the exact thing I needed, it was like a balm to the unease I'd felt earlier. Now this, this I could do! I thought as my unease slipped away completely.

"I've really missed you, fuck, I could barely focus." Reagan cursed as he stared down at me.

I smirked as I stared up at him, "Oh yeah? How much?"

Reagan cocked his head at me, his eyes glinting with something wicked and delicious. "How about I show you instead?" He asked and before I could question it, he swooped down and carried me again, causing me to release a squeal of delight.
