Daniel's POV
I didn't expect to see anyone I knew at Eleanor's office. Not here, not now. But there she was—Mia Carter, standing outside the building, her face pale, eyes red from crying.
I hesitated before walking up to her. "Mia?"
She flinched, turning sharply. When she saw me, she let out a shaky breath. "Daniel…"
Something was wrong. Mia was usually full of energy, always smiling, but now she looked completely drained.
"What happened?" I asked.
She swallowed hard, her voice barely above a whisper. "My husband… he's dead."
I froze. "What?"
She wiped at her face roughly. "They say it was an accident. But I know it wasn't. He had an argument with Eleanor the day before it happened."
My stomach tightened. "Eleanor?"
She nodded. "He was working for her. And then suddenly, he's dead? It doesn't make sense."
I exhaled slowly, trying to process. "Did you go to the police?"
