Chapter 15 - Ember Spark

Between the years of contestant battles between Ancient races and the beasts, in the lead of the a certain special group of beasts—those abominable, who were the high-ranking monsters—the human race got the first great news that opened up new hopes in them.

The first humans had awakened.

The first person to awaken was the Duke of Sunless Empire, who awakened the fire ability, but was that all? No...

Additionally, he evolved into a dragon, a fire-breathing creature with strength, stamina, endurance, and pride that knew no humanity limits.

This greatly shocked everyone to their cores, even the ancient races—mostly the dragon race which at that time felt disrespected—but this was merely the beginning.

More humans started their awakening, and some got abilities while others awakened both, an ability and a new race.

Even some new races never seen before started crawling on the Earth's surface.

This was the first phase awakening of what came to be known as the Ember Spark.

The new awakened joined the Ancient races to fight the common foe, with great assurance of victory this time around!

***

Awakening had many twists and turns than meets the eye, the first being that not every human could awaken an Ember Spark as previously thought.

Only thirty percent could become awakened—although the percentage rose higher as years went by—and that too was not out of luck.

This finding, buried the hopes of those who used to pray every day to awaken, begging for a chance to be the lucky one.

The requirements for awakening had been fulfilled before you were even born, how?

An Ember Spark! (One can refer to this as a lineage)

Both Peter and Sylvie's hearts skipped at the sight of the transparent stone, how were they going to cheat this one?

They wondered!

This was the hardest step in the process; they wished to keep his race and one of his abilities a secret from the whole world, but it was later, when they were about to enter the Chaos Academy gate, that Sylvie remembered the biggest problem...

This transparent stone!

"Since your information for your awakening was not provided, as the Academy is required to know the main details about one's ability and race so we could allocate them to the practices and resources that suit them," Sonya explained while extending the stone to them.

There was nothing like a secret when it came to races and abilities; the world was accepting everyone, no matter the race, as long as they did not harm others.

It was made in a way that everyone who awakened a new race or ability Ember Spark would be supported to the best of the world's (as in the academy's) capabilities. They would slowly but surely find the pros and cons of each new race and the ability to better train them to perfection.

They wanted to grasp every opportunity they could that would help in fighting the creatures, so it was not out of place to ask about one's race or ability, but what about Peter's case, will he be welcomed like others?

Yeah, they will, but in a different approach than the rest; it better not test the waters, but even then, how was he going to go past the Appraisal Stone?

"Are you okay, Ms. Sylvie?" Sonya's question pulled Peter out of his thoughts, looking at his side, Sylvie was sweating buckets.

Was she more worried than he was? He wondered.

He was feeling himself giving in to the thought of keeping adoring her forever.

At this moment, she could easily expose him and end this endless anxiety; this would even clear her relationship with her family, mainly her father. She might even get rewarded for her astonishing discovery!

Although she will face the consequences of the oath—a payment to a powerful witch would decrease the effects of the oath, and the Delphyne Family would pay anything for that. After all, how impossible was it to find a Vampire?

Yet, instead of doing that, she stuck herself on him not minding what they'd go through.

"Elena..." he called out to his only option, the only one he thought might get them out of this predicament.

[I know. I will help you, but why bother with the Academy? You can just go and join some guilds; that way, the chances of you being exposed would be slim, don't you think?] Elena asked him.

What she said made some sense but she forgot the fact that no kid of his age was allowed to join guilds or go to towers without going through the Academy.

He explained to her

[I see, then you being indebted to me is avoidable; I will help you if you agree to fulfill one request of mine, do you agree!] She knew the answer before he agreed; he was hellbent on joining the academy, knowing that was enough for Elena to be sure he would agree.

"Of course, a favor from a rogue spirit comes with a price, typical!"Like she had expected Peter nodded to.

How could Elena fail to have a solution for such a little problem? He just had to agree to her request, and everything would be okay.

[Touch the stone.] Strange energy traveled to his right hand, wasting no time as he was afraid of Sonya finding out about the strangeness of Peter touching the stone.

Feeling movements from Peter, Sylvie, who had yet to answer, Sonya hurried to stop his hand, but it was too late.

The stone turned out to be cold on his palm with swirling movements within tingling in his palm. It lit up and a hologram screen materialized before them.

[Name: Peter

Race: Less Human

Ability: Darkness

Description: A race known for their pale white skin and other-worldly control over the Darkness yet thus were slaves to the Humans and High humans in the upper realms. They're weak, but Humans feared them for their ability to adapt and rise higher than even the High Humans themselves, with enough resources.

Fearing that they might come for revenge after getting so powerful for the way these two (Humans and High Humans) mistreated them... They hunted and killed them to the very last of them. Little did they know the Less Humans could not advance due to the curse placed on them. They were doomed to die as slaves, for eternity.]

"Interesting!" a voice licked out of Sonya after reading, she had a smile on her face, happy–she was just so happy.

The young miss had got a waste, she couldn't help grinning.

With all happiness, she turned to Sylvie and smiled more seeing her troubled look -she was faking it.

"Are you helping? To me, you're pointing more trouble in my way." Peter complained to Elena in his mind, "What did you think faking such a race to me? It's like you're calling the entire human race to hunt me down!"
