Chapter 10 - The Village

After stepping through the portal, Leo once again found himself in a whole different world, but this time, it was a little bit different; in front of Leo, there was a poorly built gate surrounded by a wooden wall that any half-decent awakened could jump over. As Leo was inspecting the structure in front of him, a voice rang out, "Identify yourself or be prepared to die." Hearing the anxious voice that yelled out Leo immediately began to think of a solution to their current problem. Still thinking of a solution, a notification popped up in the corner of Leo's eyes. Thinking that it may help, Leo decided to look to see what it said.

Quest

Objective: Save the village and its inhabitants from the local bandits.

Time limit: 2 days

Rewards: Based on results or the objective.

Seeing the quest objective Leo instantly began to understand the situation. Taking a couple more seconds to organise his thoughts, he responded to the previous voice. "We are adventurers in search of a place to stay the night." After a couple of moments of silence, a creak began to sound out from the gate as it slowly began to open.

Once the gate was finally open a group of people holding makeshift weapons appeared before Leo and his party. As Leo began to assess the strength of the other group, a man who seemed to be their leader spoke out. "Drop your weapons. Otherwise, we won't allow you to enter our village" Hearing this, Leo turned to the rest of his party, asking the two that had weapons to drop them. After a moment of hesitation debating whether they should follow Leo's order, Rosana dropped her staff, and John dropped his shield and sword. Seeing this, the soldiers visibly relaxed as their commander began to move forward, eventually passing Leo and arriving in front of the giant that is Apollo.

"I assume that you are the leader of this group", the man spoke out with a confident voice as he looked up at the giant in front of him; not knowing what to say, Apollo simply looked towards Leo, who, by this time had already turned around to look at the two. Seeing Apollo's strange actions the man turned around to see what was happening.

When the man turned around, he found a young kid who couldn't be any older than ten staring at him with a slightly upset expression. "What is it" the commander spoke as he started to contemplate what he could have done. "I am the leader", Leo simply said as he began to walk towards the group of soldiers, which by now had exited the confines of the gate. "Take us to your chief; we may be able to help with your Bandit problem," Leo said before he continued forward, getting ever closer to entering the village. Seeing this, the soldiers dashed forward trying to stop this strange kid from entering their home, but to their surprise, just as they were about to catch him, he disappeared, moving so fast that they couldn't even see him. Leo reappeared on the other side of the gate as he began to look around.

On the other side of the wall, there existed multiple houses enough to support a population of around 200, and in the middle of these houses, there was a two-story tall building that stood out when compared to the rest. Seeing this building, Leo immediately assumed this was where the leader of the village would be thinking Leo dashed forward with his party, which by now had arrived next to him, similarly passing the soldiers. After running for less than 5 seconds, the party arrived in front of the building, walking up to the door and opening it without even knocking. To Leo's surprise, on the other side of the door, they found a young child holding a knife while crying. "I won't let you get past me. I won't let you hurt my grandpa" the child spoke out as he adopted a determined expression. Looking at the child in front of them, the party couldn't help but laugh, thinking about how this boy was probably the same age as their leader. "He is special" Apollo spoke out so quietly that no one could hear him as he stared at Leo with a smile. Deciding to completely ignore the kid, Leo simply walked past him without a second glance and walked up the stairs where he could hear talking.

When Leo arrived on the second-story floor of the building, all he could see were an old man and a middle-aged woman who was presumably his assistant. Apom noticing Leo's arrival the man spoke out. "Have you finally come to finish us off?" As the man was talking, Leo kept on walking forward until he was directly in front of the old man's desk. "No, we've come to help." These words came as a great shock to the man as he began to wonder if what that old hag had told him about the hero's arrival one day was true. Seeing the man's hesitation, Leo leant over the desk as far as he could in his child's body and asked where are those bandits located. Towards this child's overwhelming aura, the man could only tell Leo the location of the bandit's camp before he passed out along with his assistant.

Obtaining their next stop Leo ordered the group to head out towards the bandits. Ever since Leo looked at the quest provided by the system, he had one thought the bandits couldn't threaten the villagers if they all died. Entertaining these thoughts, Leo left the village along with his party with a huge grin as he continued to imagine the number of people he was about to kill. It seems that Leo himself hadn't realised how much he liked killing.
