Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: A Mysterious Beckoning

The sound of birds chirping made their way to my ears. The silence, was something that I could get used to. Yet, my recent rejection from Kaden plagued my mind.

"I can't believe he would do that to me." I whispered under my breath.

Creak... The door opened slowly, and a delicious smell came wafting through the room.

"Who's there?" I asked nervously, while discretely pulling the covers up over my chest.

"Ms. Anabelle, your breakfast is ready." The sweet woman spoke, her voice both warm and inviting.

Confused, I looked at the woman in awe. No one has ever done something like this for me. Not even my own mother.

While I was mid-thought, the kind woman placed the tray on table by the bed. Before leaving, she spoke again.

"Alpha Christian wants to see you after you're done eating." Then she started to walk toward the door.

Before the woman could exit, I reached my hand out.

"Stop!" I blurted, urging her to turn back around and face me. To my surprise she did, but maintained a smile on her face.

"What happened? Is there anything else you request?" She asked, her voice tinged with sweetness.

I don't deserve this type of kindness from anyone. But I guess my life is changing. Could it be due to the Moon Goddess hearing my prayer?

Will she answer my question? I wondered before asking her.

"Who is Alpha Christian?" I questioned, eager to get a better understanding.

"My dear, he is the one to ease your worries." She answered briefly.

Not satisfied, I sat up straighter, anger rising in my body. "You must tell me more about him!" I demanded, needing a better response, because her cryptic words were not cutting it.

"Listen, that is all I'm allowed to tell you. Nothing more, nothing less." She spoke nonchalantly, then walked out of the room.

As her words lingered in the air, I was left perplexed at the situation.

Not knowing what to do, I carefully stood up off the bed, my mind racing. I started pacing back and forth, muttering the same words over and over again.

"Who is this Alpha Christian? I don't know anyone by that name." I desperately tried wrapping my mind around it, but the more I tried, it couldn't be done.

"You know what? Forget about eating. I may find out who he is." I spoke quietly, trying to the confidence I needed.

So, with a pep in my step, I made my way down the desolate hallway. As I walked further, people started coming out of their rooms.

"What's that woman doing here? Let alone sleeping in Alpha Christian's room?" They whispered toward each other. Then for second one of them looked at me, disappointment and anger in their eyes.

I don't know why they are so concerned about someone they don't know. For Moon Goddess's sake, I wish they would mind their own business! I pondered while making my way to Christian's office.

Yet, each whisper wouldn't stop. Just as I was about to knock on the office door, someone walked up behind me.

"Boo!" They screamed into my ear.

Startled I jumped back, my heart jumping inside my chest.

"Ahhh!" I yelled, unable to calm my nerves down.

How dare this person scare me like that. They nearly gave me a heart attack! I hollered internally. It's extremely annoying that they would do that to me.

Right as I was about to turn around, a bellowing laugh caught my ears.

"Anabelle, I got you!" They spoke, unable to control their laughter.

Not wanting to wait anymore, I abruptly turned around. Once I did, my eyes widened in surprise.

What's my old friend doing here? I wonder what happened to him. I mumbled under my breath unable to contain my excitement.

"David! I haven't seen you since we were little!" I spoke, my voice tinged with sadness and relief.

He smiled, and shifted from one foot to the other before speaking. "I know, but your parents had banned me from the pack. And I found refuge in the Blood Moon pack." His voice was filled with anguish.

Seeing him almost tearing up, caused my heart to break. But before I could speak, the door opened wide.

"Anabelle, you coming?" The same gruff voice from yesterday's events asked me.

Who's that talking to me? Their voice sounds oddly familiar. I think I heard it before, but don't remember. I contemplated, while listening to him.

Subconsciously, my heart began beating rapidly in my chest. The man's voice was commanding, yet caring.

Desperately I needed to know who it was. So, slowly I turned to face him, unease filling me.

But, David grabbed my hand, and gently started to squeeze it tightly.

"We will talk to him together. Only if that's what you want." David whispered into my ear.

Why would he do this for me? Why is he insisting to go in the office with me? I wondered while looking down at his warm hand in mine.

I couldn't believe that after all the years apart, he was still my best friend. Yet was he only this way for me, or is he doing this for himself? I reflected, trying to know where this was coming from all of a sudden.

"Why are you doing this for me?" I asked, eager to receive an answer to my question.

Silence... There was silence in the hallway, causing me to wonder even more.

"Anabelle, I know how much my friendship means to you. And now that you are here, I will always be the bestest friend you have ever needed." He spoke whilst trying ease my worries.

After a few minutes, a sigh escaped my lips. Knowing he wants to be there for me I automatically felt at ease.

"Thank you. You don't realize how much I have missed you." I replied, grateful that he was here for me in this moment.

"Anabelle come with me now!"
