Chapter 4 - The Unicorn

She turned to them and rubbed her hands together like an evil cartoon villain. "Well, boys? Now what?"

"They looked at each other. "Shots""

Like small children, they ran towards the bar. Allie was in the lead until Alex picked her up by the waist and held her. "Run, Dude, run!" he yelled to Dean. Alex then picked her up, tossed her on the couch, and ran to the bar.

"You cheater!" She huffed like a small child. She stomped her foot.

"You're mad that you came in last. Allie Kingston-Stapleton doesn't like losing." He gave her a hug and a kiss on the forehead. "I'm sorry. Do you want to do it again?"

"No. What you didn't know is that the winner is the loser. So, I won!"

"You can't just make up the rules."

"The hell I can't."

"And why is that Princess?"

"Because I have these." She lifted her shirt and flashed them.

The two boys' mouths fell open and began to water. They both wanted to suck on her supple tits.

"Now, boys, What is mommy's first prize?"

"What do you want, Cara Mia?"

"Yes, Princess Buttercup. What do you wish?"

"Hmm. I can't have what I want to wish for, though I do have what I want, just in a different way."

Alex looked at Dean, who was silent. The look on his face was indecisive.

"You know, I think I should get going. I can't control--"

"Alex, no one is asking you to control yourself," Dean said.

His face showed confusion. "Umm. I am... maybe if...why do you think they called me the boyfriend?"

"You're a boy, and you're our friend. Plus, they changed it to our Helpmate."

He looked at Dean, feeling his heartache as he said, "Yeah, I have absolutely no interest in anything but a bromance with him. That would be crazy."

Dean looked at Alex. "Same here. That would be beyond crazy, right?" Dean rushed the answer before Alex even finished his sentence. "I have absolutely no interest, Alvarez. Never have and never will." He looked into Alex's eyes and how his body moved far away. Damn. Why did you pay attention to Bruss? I didn't think that would hurt his feelings.

He didn't want to read Alex and his motivation. Time to change the subject.

"What do you have an interest in doing, Princess?

"I want to put more booze inside me." She needed some liquid courage right now. She would deal with the hangover tomorrow.

They played three games of darts. Allie came in first every time, which wasn't a big shock. Alex came in second, and Dean came in third.

"You remember nothing from our shooting lessons. Cowboy?"

"So, what do I get for first place?"

"What do you want? You know that I will grant your wish."

Allie rubbed her chin. "Hmm, could you take me to Paris?"

"OK, let me make a few calls," Dean said, taking out his cell phone.

"Are we bringing our Helpmate? Do you want to go to Paris?" he asked.

"It's incredible how serious you are right now," Alex said. "No, I have a job, so I can't make it. Catch me next time Allie shows s her tits," he said, sounding sarcastic.

"Do you want to go without him?"

"No, we need someone to watch Peanut."

"If I am going to Paris, I am not going to be a glorified manny."

"What would you be going as?"

"I... we... I mean you and... Maybe it's better if I stay home. Keep an eye on the house."

"We have an alarm system, so we don't need you to watch the house. I guess you have to come with us."

"Again, I had a J-O-B, and I can't just leave at the drop of a hat. So, let's drop this. More shots, anyone?"

"Sure. Want to do lemon drops," Allie said excitedly.

"No tequila?" Dean asked.

"No. I'm giving it up. I heard a rumor it got me into too much trouble."

"Hey, that's how we met," Dean said with downturned lips.

"That's how I got my knees dirty," Alex said pouting

"Seriously, dude? That was so--"

Alex cut him off. "Fucking hot?"

"Not necessary."

"Yeah, but you have to admit that it was fucking hot in hindsight."

"I wanted to break your jaw and knock your teeth out."

Dean started to advance on him. His fists were balled at his side. Alex straightened up to his full height.

Allie was watching the exchange between both of them. Jesus fucking Christ. Why do they have to have so much testosterone? She stepped in the middle of them. "Does anyone else feel really good right now?"

They turned to look at her. "What Cara Mia?"

"I asked. Does anyone else feel this good? I got tingles in all the right places." I have two beautiful men, and I want them to take me. Lay me down and fuck me. I want to suck my husband's giant thick cock while Alex rails me from behind. I think it's called Chinese finger cuffs."

"I haven't felt like this in months, like California months ago. I blame the Dilaudid, but damn baby girl, I want to fuck my wife and feel you, Princess."

"Well, if we are going to count that, three months ago," Alex confessed. "I, too, would like to feel your-- You know what? Nevermind. I felt like this two weekends ago. Narcotics were not involved. Just some good old-fashioned Tennessee Whisky and a girl-- Nevermind, again, we have the single most fucked up relationship ever!" Alex said.

"Oh, relax, Alvarez. I am not going to kill you. Not when I am finally trying to like you."

"You fucked a slut two weeks ago? I know I shouldn't be jealous, but fuck am I ever. How dare he do that to... I have no right to feel that way. Alex has his own needs and desires, so back off, Alexsandra. He is not yours. He's just been hanging out with us, helping us care for Gwen."

"Oh, wow, two weeks ago. Who was this lovely lady? Do we know her?"

"Allie, don't," Dean said in a stern voice. He changed the subject, knowing that his wife was jealous. "Second place? Name your prize for victory... ish."

"Well, since Paris is out of the question--- How about Rome?" Alex said, trying to diffuse the tension in the room.

"All I got to do is make a couple of calls," Dean said as he took his phone out again.

"Dude, I get the joke."

Dean looked at Allie and shrugged.

"I choose..... a body shot. We don't have to go all the way to Rome."

"With who?" Allie asked.

"As sexy as Dean is, I must go for you, Cara Mia."

"Me too," Dean said.

"On you," they said together.

"These things are so dangerous," she said.

"I'll get the shots," Dean said.

"I'll get the lemons and the sugar," Allie said.

The three of them sat there on the couch.

"Well, what do we do next? I know what we do next, but what do we do next?"

"I guess you decide who gets to go first, and then you decide where to put the sugar."

"Dean, would you mind if I talked to you briefly? Maybe way over there," he said.

"Sure." Dean and Alex left Allie and went to the other end of the basement by the pool table.

"Look, man, this is really weird. It's one thing to joke about and make innuendos, but it's another thing to be in this situation. Dude, I fucking love Peanut like she's my own, and yes, I know she is NOT mine. You came home four months ago, and I have been here almost daily since. My plants are dead, and my utility bills are basically at zero. I'm living out of a duffle bag in your sister's bedroom. I am always worried I am going to disturb you two. Dean, I still love fucking love her. Being here, looking at her every day, and not being with her has been so hard. Then the flirting started more and more, and you let it slide. But it just makes me want her more. I know that I have to go at some point, so I might as well--"

"Move in with us."

"Say what now? I need to clean my ears out. I could have sworn you said move in with us."

"That's exactly what I'm saying. It's not Natalie's bedroom. It's our bedroom. Natalie just stayed there. If you want, you can pick another room," Dean offered. "You can sleep in the pool house wherever is comfortable for you."

"OK, my head is spinning a little here. Dean, you are a blast to hang out with, but I love Allie inappropriately. Loving someone else's wife. Like breaking the sixth and ninth commandments inappropriately. That's why everyone thinks this is a really messed up friendship." He interlaced his fingers and put them on his head."How can you be OK with this situation?" he asked.

"Trust me, if I didn't want you in this situation, you would not be in this situation. I am perfectly aware of that, Alex."

"Come back over." He put his arm around Alex's shoulders. "Allie and I would like to talk to you."

Allie jumped off the couch. "Is everything OK?" she asked.

"I think it's time, Allie if we are serious about what we discussed."

They all sat down. Dean leaned forward towards Alex. He put his elbows on his knees and spoke. "Alex, do you know what a unicorn is?" Dean asked.

"A mythical creature who pisses rainbows and shits glitter?"

"Sure, let's go with that. We have talked about this before at length. She loves me, I have no doubt. I am confident in my feelings for her and her feelings for me. We love our daughter, and we know she loves you. Peanut responds to your voice; she smiles when she sees you. I will not be too excited if she calls you Dada."

"What do you want her to call him?" Allie asked.

"Alvarez works for me."

"She'll be like four by the time she can say Alvarez."

"Exactly," he said with a smile.

"I am very used to seeing Peanut and Allie every day. On the other hand, seeing you every day is weird; I'm not going to lie."

"Remember the letters she left us?" he asked.

"I do."

"You remember the letters I didn't want you two to read," Allie interjected.

"How many times do I--"

"We."

"How often do WE have to say that we are eternally sorry? But it had our names, so I figured that made it our property."

"When did you become Dean Edward Stapleton, Attorney at Law?" They all shared a laugh.

"I've had enough of the law."

"You and me both," Alex said. "Now, what about the letters she didn't want us to read?"

"In mine, she made a good point. I shouldn't have expected her to drop all her feelings for you and come running back to me, especially after all I had done and all she had gone through. She would never have made it if you weren't there."

"That all makes perfect sense," Alex said.

"A few days before we left the hospital, we talked about you and Gwen. She cried because she didn't want to choose between you and me. He was either going to love us both, or she was going to leave us both," he said.

"Isn't it ironic that you've gone from never wanting to love someone to wanting to love two people simultaneously?"

"It's not that I never let myself love someone; I didn't want the other person to know I loved them. I loved Malibu but never told him, but I know now that he did know. I loved… " She stopped and looked at Alex.

"Cara Mia, the day you told me you loved me was the best day of my life. The next day was the worst day of my life. I finally got the love that I prayed and begged God for, and I have to leave."

"I know, Mi Vida. I am sorry, but I would not destroy your life for selfish reasons. I loved you then and now because I never stopped in the first place." Her eyes glistened. "Alex, I am so sorry. I hope you know that I did not use you as a placeholder for Dean. You and I were good together. I will never fall out of love with you. I felt for Dean way before I was able to admit it. I never said it out loud to anyone besides you. The day he said it to me, I asked him to say it to me twice because, in a way, I was saying it back."

"Awe, babe. I never knew that," Dean swooned.

"I didn't want you to," she said.

"So, Alex, it's not like she fell for you the day she got my letter. He let herself feel again." During that conversation, he made an excellent point.

He asked, "Why can't you love two people simultaneously?" He didn't want to go out looking for someone else to love. It's not like she put an ad in the paper for another man to join her in our relationship. She asked me to get to know you, and I did. I know you, not the idea I had of you. You only wanted to take care of her, of Gwen. You were ten times the man I was at that time. I thought I was being a man through my behavior. The truth is, YOU were the man. I was being---"

"A complete fucking idiot?" Alex said.

"You enjoyed that, didn't you?"

"Immensely."

"Carrying on, we hung out and we talked. I heard how you talked about her and Peanut. I heard the love in your voice for them. You were willing to die for them that day in the hall at the hospital," he said.

Alex went to say something.

"And no, you were not kicking my ass. Think you're a really cool guy. I see what she saw in you, what she sees in you. I know my wife loves me, and I'm confident in that fact. I am also perfectly aware that she loves you, too. Yes, this all seems incredibly weird. These last four months have brought us to this point in our relationship. But let's face it, it was bound to happen one day. Why have a mindless threesome? Even though I still wouldn't mind one with…"

"Dean, the girl on girl on guy isn't happening. Hang it up," she laughed.

"The Dean she met, the Dean she fell in love with, would never have done anything like this," Alex said.

"But I'm not the Dean she met. I'm not the Dean you met in the hallway that day. She's not the Allie I met. Is she the Allie you met?" he asked.

"Good point."

"California changed me, Alex," he said.

"We can come up with rules, with boundaries. Whatever it takes to make us all happy. To make our girl happy. Allie has never been as happy as she has been these last few months. As odd as this sounds, I wouldn't mind you being with my wife. As long as she's in my bed by the night's end, I'm good."

"So, this would be like a polyamory thing?" he asked.

"Not exactly. Polyamory is when all the people involved love each other. Circling back to the Unicorn, it's a person willing to join an existing couple. They may join the couple only for sex, or they may become a more involved part of the relationship and spend nonsexual companionship time together, too."

Allie got up and sat on his lap. Dean leaned back in his chair. He ran her fingers through his hair.

"You already do that. Part from the sex part. You and Dean will never be together, but you will be together with me. Other times, it's just one on one."

"You're right now that you put a name to it. Guess I have been your unicorn," he said.

"So, is that a yes?" Allie asked with wide eyes.

"I would be stupid to say no."

"Yay!" she exclaimed.

She kissed him full on the mouth. God, he missed her kiss. He wasn't exactly sure what to do with his hands. I guess that will come with time.

"Why don't I just give you two a moment to get reacquainted? I'm going to go upstairs and find something to eat. Drinking makes me hungry."

"And horny?" she asked jokingly.

"That will come when I get reacquainted with my Buttercup." He winked at her.

"Dean made his way up the stairs, leaving Allie and Alex alone. They looked at each other in the eyes."

How do you like the story so far? Is it worth the read? Who was surprised Allie picked Dean?
