Chapter 26 - Waiting for him

Alexander carried Anna gently in his arms, his usually stoic face softened by concern. As he approached the sleek black car waiting outside the company, he opened the door carefully and placed her inside. Anna blinked up at him, her tired eyes shimmering with gratitude.

"You're going home," he said firmly. His tone was gentle, but there was no room for negotiation.

Anna nodded, offering him a small, sleepy smile. "Will you be home soon?"

Alexander hesitated, running a hand through his dark hair. "I'll be late tonight," he admitted, though his words were barely audible over the hum of the idling car.

Anna, not catching the last part, gave him a cheerful wave. "Goodbye, Alexander," she said softly.

For the first time in what felt like years, Alexander allowed himself a small smile. "Goodbye, Anna."
